Took my niece's to see it this weekend. We all loved it. And you're right - several places within the film where the only laughter you hear is coming from the adults for the humor that just skips off the kids - haha. Great little flick. The best response I have ever gotten from a gift for my wife is a little tiffany tag necklace with an inscription on the back of a little saying we used to say alot but had gotten away from over the years. I was looking through some old cards and pictures and remembered it and had it engraved. She is still talking about that a year later. First trip to Dallas DZ - tips, contacts, etc...?
demoss99 replied to demoss99's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I am finally going off the reservation and going to visit another DZ. I will be going to Dallas in three weeks and would like to hear people's suggestions as to where to jump, and maybe some suggested contact people I should meet when I get there etc.... This will be the first time I've jumped at a DZ other than my home. I have all of my own gear etc.. so that is not the concern. What I am looking for is advice on how to best handle a visit to a new DZ and maybe some suggested contacts on who to talk to etc... in order to make this as smooth and fun visit as possible. I would love to avoid any stupid first timer or new jumper bonehead mistakes etc... Don't want to err for lack of information and planning. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Could very well be someone (dz.com'r) with a really sick sense of humor seeing if it made the forum. Nothing shocks me anymore - especially with ebay - home of the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich etc... lol "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

We got to meet him at Texas Motor Speedway last year. He was a nice guy - very approachable and very young to be handling so much pressure. I would think racing for his Grandfather would be a bitch - he seems like a real ass. lol Cool story that you got to jump him!!! I saw the Nutria mentioned above in this thread. They are some nasty little critters. They actually made a run at trying to find some market for their meat....I doubt they are going to get any takers. lol http://www.nutria.com/site.php "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Sounds like the context it was being used in was meant to mean that that individual was dating/married to someone beneath them in class or social stature. "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

The next fatality waiting to happen.....
demoss99 replied to divnswoop's topic in Safety and Training
I recently purchased a used triathlon 160 from a dealer. They were very careful about selling to me. They asked my number of jumps, my coach's name, our S&TA's name, what I had been jumping previously etc... I too was initially taken back by that (my money - give me the damn canopy - lol) but afterwards I realized they were not only trying to protect me, but the sport as well. Right after that I read this months "parachutist" article by Kevin Gibson "Two Down, X to Go" that touched directly on this topic. I'm glad to see this trend and support it. I often wonder if I'm putting down sufficient information in my logbook about my jumps. I'm curious to find out what types of information jumpers put in their logbooks. How much detail do you go into? Names of other jumpers? Weather? Formation? etc... They have proven handy in strangling people who walk across the packing area, trip and get tangled up in my lines while I'm trying to pack!!!!! "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

My wife and I will make roadtrips to Gulf Shores, Alabama in the summer for a few days. While there we make it a point to hit a little place near the beach called "The Steamer." They serve "royal reds" a special type of very deep water shrimp available only during certain times of the year in the Gulf of Mexico. They are huge and taste like nothing else. Hoping to make it back there this summer if things are rebuilt from the hurricane. It was a beer weekend for me. 3 jumps total with the new triathlon, some RW coaching and then built a new sign for the dropzone. "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."

Proving Native American Heritage... where to start?
demoss99 replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
You can also try contacting the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) - I believe they are hq'd in Oklahoma. I was able to prove up my heritage on both sides and recieved a grant from the Native Amercian Graduate Center when I went to grad school. http://www.doi.gov/bureau-indian-affairs.html "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." -

Searching for some skydiving history on the PCA

Thanks for everyone's input - its much appreciated. Now I just need to get my dad to get his own dz.com account and he can do this stuff himself - haha Thanks again!!! ***************************************** "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." -
I thought I had added the caveat that this applies to Louisiana only - but upon review I did not. There is no such mandatory testing procedure in use here in Louisiana. I fully meant to add that and simply forgot. Posts to this forum should not be construed as legal advice and certainly not meant to pertain to any particular jurisdiction. The best way to avoid hashing this argument is to do as many here have suggested - get a driver (friend or taxi). Avoid drinking and driving at all costs. Where the police get you on the field sobriety test is the classic "follow the pen" or Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Test. Nystagmus is a well-known physiological phenomenon that has been defined by one medical dictionary as "an involuntary rapid movement of the eyeball, which may be horizontal, vertical, rotatory, or mixed, i.e., of two varieties. Stated otherwise, it is the inability of the eyes to maintain visual fixation as they are turned from side to side. Basically your eye shakes when it gets to the far end of your vision field where they hold that damn pen - you can't fake it - body does it and you can't control it. I've defended OUI/DUI/OWI cases for years and this is always the thing they sting you with. Remember that if you feel you are impaired and will not be able to pass the breath test etc... Its better to refuse all testing (including the field sobriety) An attorney can have a better chance of getting your off with no testing result evdience. Of course the best way to avoid DUI is not to drink and drive - but lets be real, most skydivers have more chance of dying from liver disease than impact with the earth.
