Paintball Dogfighting???
Mostly_Harmless replied to Skysurfer_Rob's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It would be pretty funny specially when you consider everyone will only be doing left turns. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
Crossfire 2 139, Spectre 190, Safire 149, and a Sabre 170...that's the order I would rate all the canopies I have jumped. The Sabre 170 opening was by far faster then any other of those canopies. My worse Crossfire opening rates better then my best Sabre 170 opening. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

From what it seems (I am sure I will be corrected if wrong) Sony is the only brand that really last up to the abuse of freefall. You might want to return it and get a Sony. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

I would like to believe that the Commander is a capable pilot and will be able to handle a bit of weather. I know that White Sands doesn't have the equipment to make for a fast turn around but I believe it has more outs then the rest of the landing sites. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

A jumping buddy of mine just purchased a gas powered one (without the counter rotating blades) for a few hundred bucks. While the thing was being tuned by a professional he got his hands on some heli training software (which also had a radio just like the one he would be using) for his computer. He probably put about 40-50 hours on the simulator before ever flying his heli. He said it has helped him out a lot and probably saved him a bunch of cash. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

It sucks. I don't mind it every once in a while. The worst is when they bump you and then don't tell you until you are all geared up. I put a little more then 5G's into my dropzone this year and if being bumped was a common thing I would happily give that money to one of the other DZ's around me. Fortunately for me I believe SDLI is getting a second turbine for the fun jumpers this year for the really busy days (I normally get on every other load, but during peak times it would be every 3rd load). So the tandems will have the Caravan and the fun jumpers will have a King Air. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

Make sure you drill a 1/4" hole in the rear of the car and insert a bottle rocket. This will help with the winning part. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

Holy crap, my dad is playing Zelda on my Nintendo Wii
Mostly_Harmless replied to grue's topic in The Bonfire
If I could find a PS3 I would buy it and I am sure a lot of other people are thinking the same way. Right now it is too much of a hassle to try to get it. A few weekends ago I was able to pick up a Wii. As an avid gamer (mostly PC and use to be with PS2 before it stop working), to which I use to play 2 games competitively (Unreal Tournament 2004, Day of Defeat 2), I thought wii was going to be nothing but gimmicky. I am use to having a keyboard (to which I had every key at my finger tips for keybinds etc...) and a mouse for controls so when I first looked at the remote I laughed at it's similicity. As it turns out the Wii is a lot of fun. The sports package it comes with lacks in the graphics department but more then makes up for it in the fun factor. You can use 1 remote for up to 4 players (obviously you can't all play at one time) with games like bowling (which I think is the best), golf, boxing, baseball, and tennis. I also picked up Call of duty 2. The controls for this game have a bit of a learning curve but once you start getting use to it you start to immerse yourself into the game. After a while you start to find yourself learning to one side to peak from beside a rock and ducking for cover. I spent most of last Sunday looking for a second Wii remote which took me almost 7 stores to find but did manage to get one (I am sure they will be easier to get once xmas is over). It also surprised me to find out that Wii is completely backwards compatiable with Gamecube. Not only can it play it's games (which is really cool since they might be cheaper to get now) but you can use the memory cards and controllers with the wii (not to mention Nintendo DS too). You can also download older SNES and Nintendo games. The Wii also immerse you with it's other features besides it's gaming capability. You create what's called a Mii which is basically a 3-D character of yourself to which you can use to talk to other people who are using the Wii. The Wii also has a forcast channel, a news channel, and you can also surf the internet from it (mind you the Wii is wireless). You can even take pictures of your SD memroy card and have some editing fun with the Wii. I honestly think that Nintendo hit on something with the Wii and apparently from that article a lot of other people agree. The Wii is just fun. It gets even better with the more people you add. My title collection isn't that big but that will change in the upcoming weeks to which I will be able to provide a better view on the Wii remote and gameplay. The graphics aren't ground breaking but the Wii makes up for it every where else (as long as you don't get too frustrated with the remote at first). For $250 I didn't seem to mind the lack of blueray technology or anything else. Compared to PS3 ($599.99, to which I will get) and Xbox 360 ($399.99, no desire to get) I think you are really getting a deal with the Wii (not to mention it's only the size of a portable hard drive). Don't knock it until you try it. Also last night I became part of the Wii Destruction. On a heated tennis match I was able to do this while serving the ball to my ceiling fan. The Wii remote survived without a single scatch: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/outlaw12cz/Misc%20Pictures/DSCN0464.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/outlaw12cz/Misc%20Pictures/DSCN0465.jpg _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -

Do we have to give free photos and videos???
Mostly_Harmless replied to davidpanal's topic in Photography and Video
I use to think like this also. I am not an experience camera flyer whatsoever (about 160 jumps or so) so I know my opinion isn't worth much but... When I first started flying camera people use to ask me for videos that they might have been the base on or a cool exit shot and I was all cool with it (talking about video camera, no stills). But lately it's getting kinda old. It get's real annoying when all you want to do is jump and after ever jump people are bothering you for the video. I don't have any equipment at the DZ so I have to go home and editing on my computer, all which takes time. Don't get me wrong I have no problem playing the jump back on my camera when we get down but I don't have the time to edited video for 5 people when I have school, work, and my own stuff to do. The only time I really don't mind is when I jump on special jumps (eg. 100th, 500th) in which case I am happy to get the video to the person. I also now tell people that I don't fly to shoot video, the camera is on my head for my own personal reasons and I am not out there to get the shot, I am out there to skydive. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
This happened on a flight getting ready to depart for New Orleans, Louisiana. Jack was sitting on the plane when a guy took the seat beside him. The guy was a wreck, pale, hands shaking, moaning in fear. "What's the matter?" Jack asked. "I've been transferred to New Orleans, there's crazy people there. They've got lots of shootings, gangs, race riots, drugs and the highest crime rate." Jack replied, "I've lived in New Orleans all my life. It's not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your own business, enroll your kids in a nice school and it's as safe as anywhere in the world." The guy relaxed and stopped shaking and said, "Oh, thank you. I've been worried to death. But if you live there and say it's OK, I'll take your word for it. What do you do for a living?" "Me?" said Jack. "I'm a tail gunner on a Budweiser truck." _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

How many of you vidiots can do this?
Mostly_Harmless replied to speedy's topic in Photography and Video
I keep the original DV tapes, and I archive captured AVI to DVD-R. It takes about 3 DVD-R's to fit 1 hour of DV footage, but usually there is at least 10-20 minutes of crap on each DV tape that I don't permanently archive in a captured state. After 1 year of shooting video, and less than 200 camera jumps, I have probably 20 tapes and 40 DVD-R's in my closet, neatly organized and labeled. The organization is mainly for myself, for (1) when I decide to edit a video summarizing "Summer 2006", for example, and (2) when I think of an old jump that I want to see again. If I was doing anything more than the few fun jumps per week that I do, this task would be too big to keep up. Great idea, thanks! _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -

You save each and every jump (full length) on your computer? How big of a hard drive do you have? _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
According to my friend who is an Airforce rigger, the Airforce does something very similar to our AFF which includes doing there first jump with an instructor. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

When I travelled to Atlanta this past November I just carried my rig on my back like a backpack. Didn't have any issues (there were about 4 of us carrying it the same way). I also kept the rig under my seat to prevent it from getting banged around in the carry on compartments. Edited to add: I had no issues at all at JFK airport. I was friendly with the people, even tried to get a few of them to come do a tandem but I did have an issue coming back from ATL. They kept calling my Vigil a detonator (really loud too) and wouldn't even look at my Vigil card. Finally they swabbed it and let me go. But I will say the two people at ATL didn't seem to be the brightest of the bunch. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity
