AFF/AFP Training and repeating levels
Mostly_Harmless replied to jigneshsoni's topic in Safety and Training
I failed AFF4 once also. I was kinda bummed out since me and my friend were going through AFF together and he passed it. I was very dissapointed with my performance. Right after it happened one of the tandem guys came up to me and said something that just made sense. He said, besides the money issue, even though I failed a level I am still skydiving and thats what its all about. Maybe my solo was now a 1 jump off but any good jump is still a good jump (hope that makes sense). So while you might be failing some of these levels you are still in the air and hopefully having a good time. Also look at it as your instructor is making sure you don't kill yourself. I rather him fail me because I couldn't do something rather then just let me pass because its my 3rd time trying. You need to know what you did wrong and come away from each jump knowing what needs to get done to have a safe skydive. For a while I kept my legs in too much and it caused me to do some werid stuff. On one of my jumps my instructor said I had to stop it or he wouldn't pass me. So i visualized the jumped in my head and the entire way up to alt and out the plane I just said to myself legs out over and over again.....I passed that level just fine. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
I am not sure if this is 100% true. But I justed finished my AFF 3 weeks ago and I remember that there was a slight delay in the radio. So when the instructor told me to flare I actually heard it a bit later causing me to flare late. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

Going from Student Gear to my own gear
Mostly_Harmless replied to Mostly_Harmless's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks Gravitygirl! I read good things about that canopy but wanted to make sure I knew what was coming in terms with the 7 cell. Firsted learned on a 240 and now at a 200, which is a lot more fun to fly! Huka the Nav is a lot of fun, going from the Nav 240 to the 200 was a big difference, it turned much better. Did you find your own gear yet? Those rentals are killing my funds specially since I already have my own rig! _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
Going from Student Gear to my own gear

lol, sweet, thanks guys. I am really excited to try it and hope they will let me jump it soon (also so that I don't have to pay for rentals anymore @ $85 a day). _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
Going from Student Gear to my own gear
Mostly_Harmless replied to Mostly_Harmless's topic in Gear and Rigging
I recently just finished up AFF and have purchased some used gear in great shape. I brought a Vector 3 container, 190 Spectre (about 300 jumps), 2003 PD reserve, and a brand new Vigil. My instructor is working me down slowly to the smaller wing load. I am currently jumping a Navigator 200, so I am getting pretty close to jumping with my own gear(finally). My only concern is that the Nav is a 9 cell, while the Spectre is a 7 cell. Are there any big changes I should be expecting from the 7 cell over the 9 cell? Any concerns I should be aware of? I really enjoy flying the Nav. 200 and just want to be sure that the Spectre will be just as fun. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -

I once saw that a MIT student was making an alarm clock that when it went off, it rolled around the room until you caught it and turned it off. Its somewhat hard to hit the snooze when your alarm clock is doing 25mph across your floor. Keep your alarm away from you, where you will have to actually get up and turn it off. The act of getting up my trick your body into thinking its time to get up. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

I recently acquired a used rig and wondering what is the proper way to store it. I live in NY where right now the temps are between 75-95 in a given week. My room is cooled by A/C mostly during late afternoon to the morning and is turned off in the morning to mid day. My basement is has a full time dehumidfier going. Where is the best place to store it, and what are the best conditions to store it in? _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

Virtual memory is an imaginary memory area supported by some operating systems (for example, Windows but not DOS) in conjunction with the hardware. You can think of virtual memory as an alternate set of memory addresses. Programs use these virtual addresses rather than real addresses to store instructions and data. When the program is actually executed, the virtual addresses are converted into real memory addresses. The purpose of virtual memory is to enlarge the address space, the set of addresses a program can utilize. For example, virtual memory might contain twice as many addresses as main memory. A program using all of virtual memory, therefore, would not be able to fit in main memory all at once. Nevertheless, the computer could execute such a program by copying into main memory those portions of the program needed at any given point during execution. 248Mb seems pretty low. I would increase it too about 400-500 MB. If you still get the same error then increase that number by 100MB until the problem stops. You should be fine after that

This is common when you have a lot of programs running at once. To check how much vitural memory you have do the following: 1. Go to start menu 2. Go to Control Panel 3. Open the folder called "System". 4. Click the Tab that says "Advanced" 5. Then under "Performance" click settings. 6. Then click the Tab that says "Advanced 7. At the very bottom it should say Virtural Memory then the following : "Total paging file size for all drives:" thena number should follow after that, what is that number? _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity

What are the chances of FREE tandem jump?
Mostly_Harmless replied to Cookiemunster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At Skydive Long Island your chances of getting a free skydive is very good. Stony Brook University offers anyone a free tandem skydive if you are willing to stay at the university's hospital for 2 days. They wish to study the effect skydiving has on you after you make your jump. _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -

Students watching Videos of Low turns
Mostly_Harmless replied to storm1977's topic in Safety and Training
As being very new to the sport...why are low turns so dangerous? And what makes them dangerous? _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity -
Since this is my very first post I would just like to say Hi everyone! This is me on my first tandem, my instructor is Howey and I will be doing the AFP in the spring ( as soon as it gets warm out!) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v373/outlaw12cz/jump1.jpg I think I look ridiculous in these ones: http://photobucket.com/albums/v373/outlaw12cz/ _________________________________________ www.myspace.com/termvelocity
