  1. This is a self fulfilling observation isn't it. The next judge won't be able to find one either. Acceptable sentences change with time and judges can consider aggravating circumstances. BTW what do you have to do to get charged with kidnapping? Abducting a kid and taking them 10 km would seem to qualify, the penalty can be harsh for that. Then there's 3 strikes. Couldn't they have stacked 3 violent felonies? One when he snatched her. One when he hauled her away in the truck, and another when he got to the destination, throw another in for making violent threats against a minor. You see prosecutors throw the book at people for relatively innocuous shit then you see this bullshit, it's completely disproportionate. P.S. and another for stealing the clothes the kid was wearing (on the off chance that the jurors aren't as gutless as this judge).
  2. William Wallace 88% Must've been the kilt & claymore questions that swung it.
  3. That was a Collins' lanyard demo only where one riser was deliberately detatched early and the other cutaway cable was pulled all the way out of the housing rather than being significantly longer except w.r.t. running accross the shoulder (it may still be slightly longer protruding from the housing, I dunno). There was no skyhook on that demo rig, just a conventional RSL + Collins' lanyard. If there'd been a skyhook the RSL would still have been attached to the freebag bridle via the skyhook at the end of the demo.
  4. You only think you were being serious. A U.S. flagged ship is sovereign (and this was a warship). Being the victim of terrorism or an act of war gives us every right to punish them, and I never mentioned trumping any foreign government.

  6. Be serious, this has nothing to do with vacationers. They committed an act of terrorism/war against a U.S. warship, of course the U.S. has jurisdiction. The U.S. has no extradition treaty with Yemen. The US can't easily go snatching people from foreign custody.

  10. Yea, how much did you pay for your rig?
  11. He should be thankful that 'riser' didn't swallow it. It'd be an far less pleasant picture.

Ouch, just when I'm selling a Triathlon .
  13. P.S. if you'd wanted GOOG et.al. to hold out then calling the exclusions imposed anti-competitive illegal trade restrictions and imposing tarrifs and restrictions on China's exports would have been the way to go. Maybe you could sail a few gunboats up the Yangtze and force them to buy your unfiltered searches. Ain't gonna happen. The strategy seems to be to pump China with trillions of dollars in the hope that infusing a communist dictatorship with cash converts them to capitalism before they use the cash to arm themselves and their manufacturing industry to the point of invincibility, while praying they'll be nice enough not to invade free Taiwan. Fingers crossed eh!
  14. We all buy goods made in China, I tried to stop, it was impossible, not kidding, there are whole categories of ordinary stuff now that are imported exclusively from China, made by people living under a restrictive political system. Fact is that all of Google's competitors including Microsoft have been doing business in China, censoring at the behest of their government while Google refused. So their refusal was having no impact. Finally they relented so they could compete in China instead of being excluded. There is no news story here. If a government and people want to affect change in China then they should put their own house in order or at least get the facts before spouting bullshit about a subject they learned about over their wheatos this morning and know little about. If a company like Google holds out the longest, while the likes of Microsoft has been working diligently to build China's government firewalls (that happen to restrict ALL access to google's uncensored results from inside China), then they're not the main culprits when they finally cave after seeing their competition thrive at their expense while congress wallows in complacency as Wall Mart exports unimaginable billions in industry to the place. Internet search engines are not there to fix your fucking problems, not your borders, not your political system and not your penchant porn. If they're forced legally by local jurisdictions to impose limits then they comply or get shut down there. Google is not the problem, and if you'd been paying attention this would not exactly be a revalation.
  15. Never said it had, sigh. Cole's 2012 reference does though.
  16. It didn't seem serious that you could have missed where 'end times' biblical prophecy leads, regardless of the particular interpretation. Interesting tie in with the Mayan calendar though, (base on a popular misconception about their epoch dating system).
  17. This ain't the Siglo de Oro, didn't they get the message with the Guerra de las Malvinas? Time to put a hurtin on the Hapsburgs again.
  18. MIKE WALLACE, CBS`s "60 MINUTES": Black History Month MORGAN FREEMAN, ACTOR: Ridiculous. WALLACE: Why? FREEMAN: You`re going to relegate my history to a month? WALLACE: Come on. FREEMAN: What do you do with yours? Which month is White History Month? Come on, tell me. WALLACE: I`m Jewish. FREEMAN: OK. Which month is Jewish History Month? WALLACE: There isn`t one. FREEMAN: Why not? Do you want one? WALLACE: No, no. FREEMAN: I don`t either. I don`t want a Black History Month. Black history is American history. WALLACE: How are we going to get rid of racism until...? FREEMAN: Stop talking about it. I`m going to stop calling you a white man. And I`m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You`re not going to say, "I know this white guy named Mike Wallace." Hear what I`m saying?
