Since no one else did, I'll second this. The public school system as an institution took a horrible turn somewhere down the line. Maybe it's the fault of overcrowding? Maybe it's No Child Left Behind? Maybe it's one fucking month of maternity leave for moms, maybe it's both parents in the workforce too early...Who knows when it happened. But homeschooling looks better and better. I wasn't sure if the original poster who said that about homeschooling was serious or was saying that sarcastically, but some of you know we homeschool, although not primarily for safety's sake. however, it IS a nice fringe benefit. we will NEVER have to worry about shootings or stabbings or any of that nonsense. How do you know you're not at greater risk at home from shootings & stabbings?

You've lept over the question "Are our kids safe at school?" making the assumption that they are unsafe and if you're prepared to do that based on perception then you will never meet your own standard of safety. There is nothing you can do to make your kids safe by your implied definition. In the mean time the additional harm done to kids by "zero tollerance" for little benefit is completely ignored because most folks assume that kind of crap could never happen to their kids.

What is the world comcing to. Amnesty international are fools...
dorbie replied to Sockpuppet's topic in Speakers Corner
If we shot all stupid people in the head the world would be a rather lonely place... He was shot because of the circumstances and his actions, not his intelligence. That was merely one factor that contributed to his actions. If you're going to do a spectacularly foolish thing at the wrong time under the wrong circumstances you may be unfortunate enough to be shot. The way I see it that guy was as much a victim of the bombers as anyone else, when you hide as civilians and carry explosives you can set off in an instant you don't leave a lot of wiggle room for armed men approaching a suspect who won't obey instructions who with hindsight turns out to be innocent. That doesn't mean that trolls making mention of inherently racist regimes in the same sentence are right. They might want to reconsider riding the London tube though if that's what passes for rational thought. -
Is that before or after your date with John?

Why bother when he has a moderator to fight his battles and ignore his PAs.

Clinton's seizure during Fox News Sunday interview
dorbie replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
My response: Yeah, suuuuuure he did. This shoudl not be new information to you. I believe he did, but it's quite pathetic to draw up plans, not act on them and leave the hot potato for your successor when you've been studiously avoiding it. It reeks of more CYA. -
Clinton's seizure during Fox News Sunday interview
dorbie replied to sundevil777's topic in Speakers Corner
Video: http://www.break.com/index/purple_faced_rage.html I have to say that was the most gutless way to ask a question ever "We've had a lot of emails..." The weasel is asking why he didn't go after a suspected terrorist and he doesn't even have the guts to come out and ask a straight question. I don't think Clinton came off as badly as folks say, he didn't loose it, but I don't think his answers jibed with all the facts. What is is with the phonies in the U.S. always wanting to pretend that the least bit of passion is inappropriate. His response and level of passion/annoyance seemed absolutely appropriate to me. Clinton evading the question and going on the offensive about what Fox asks his political opposition was just pathetic. The idea that Bush et.al. haven't been grilled on every aspect of the War on terrorism and before is just absurd. He comes of as petulant and silly at the end. But no big deal, it's about time more questions were asked like this and we got some real reaction out of the leaders in this country. It's all too rare and after this I guess it'll never happen again. -
The New Strong "Flinger" (or something..) System.....
dorbie replied to Unstable's topic in Gear and Rigging
Do you know if the reserves they had were too large for the containers used? It just seems incredibly odd to me that a container would have the pin pulled and not pop open due to the pressure of the springloaded PC pushing up against the flaps (non-pop top obviously). Beyond that there are obvious issues, but I'm just talking about the flaps not opening. -
Bummer, I did a search too.

Awesome, if you get too many of the jokes you're probably white & nerdy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xEzGIuY7kw There are many classic moments in this video.

Is that a tinge of regret I'm detecting? Hopefully if you get caught doing that today you go to jail, badge or not. Getting sued should be the least of your worries. Wearing a uniform and assaulting someone is an aggravating circumstance IMHO. I wonder what kind of mentality it takes to want to be a cop then commit crimes like that, but I did know some bouncers once (some of them intelligent, one working towards med school) who liked fighting and would boast of beating up some customer or other they considered to be bad guys and they aspired to being cops. Funny enough that was in Texas.

You don't do it justice it's your shadow against a bright patch inside a circular rainbow halo. When I first saw this on AFF my AFFI- told me this is called a "glory", and of course you converge and 'impact' with it as it changes scale. A very cool experience for any skydiver. The first time I fell past a cloud on AFF was pretty intense because it's the only realistic speed cue and it's shocking the first time you see it. You're pretty much floating with almost no sense of relative motion and a cloud suddenly goes screaming past. Wow!

I suspect you're a sociopathic thief. Note this is NOT FIRST HAND INFORMATION. It's just a rumour based on opinion, but I've seen your posts and I'm worried you might be. I really hope it's not true but judging by the way you treated a company you've never done business with I suspect you need to be arrested for the sake of public safety. I don't KNOW this, it's just a concern and I really hope it's not true but EVERYONE WATCH OUT FOR THIS GUY!!!! Now how ridiculous was that? Are you getting it yet? If I went to your employer and said that how would you feel? That's what you just did telling the community about this company, their customers are their livelihood and you could have done a bit of research or taken the not so subtle hint to shut up about it and not repeat the accusations with no facts.

It depends on the source & type of oil but even heavier crude is cracked into lighter products like gasoline. This is what the refineries do, they try to make useful marketable gasoline from heavier hydrocarbons that you tend to get naturally, so what comes out of the ground is not the mix you end up with as product. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cracking_(chemistry)

Scientists Claim White House Created 9/11 Attacks
dorbie replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Sad pathetic poll results. And please define "leading scientist". I really think this is the beginning of the end of rationalism. The clock is ticking on the new Dark Ages, dark through utter obfuscation and stupidity. -
What!!!!!! How dare you, Nagin's chocolate will be the wrong shade if you don't rebuild it!

The real issue for Turkey is that Kurdistan overlaps Iraq and Turkey, Turkey is concerned that their autonomous neighbor will embolden the Kurds they've been happily screwing longer than anyone can remember. It's not clear that they'd attack the Iraqi half or kurdistan, but they may. Their weasel U-turn immediately prior to invasion may yet come back to haunt them because I'm sure the US would have been less inclined to encourage so much Kurdish autonomy had the hardware in the North been allowed to roll over the border. I don't think Turkey has the capacity or stomach to get into a protracted mess with the Kurds in Iraq, especially when it'd make things worse domestically. If a crisis comes it may well be from Kurdish resurgance in Turkish-Kurdistan.

I never go for outlandish conspiracy theories especially from the left but I find the gas price fluctuations recently mighty suspicious. First it got elevated based on hype and hysteria rather than tangible factors and now we're back to declining prices with an approaching election based on what? The winter mix? In other years we've been fed bullshit about the switch to winter mix causing supply problems and increasing prices. I'm getting good and tired of these pigopolists and their useful idiots in the media snowing us all over gas pricing. On to taxes, and the CA proposition to tax oil production in State. Of course CA should get a hefty cut of natural resources drilled here. It won't affect prices just margins for the natural resource exploited here, ( it may affect local exploration but the environmentalists have put the kybosh on that here already anyway). The resulting post-tax oil goes right on the open market with all the rest of the oil and CA doesn't have to buy it. The right wing mantra that this will get passed straight to the consumer is wrong in this case, sure it get's passed along but there's competition in the oil market and why the heck should CA let anyone pump away it's natural resources and make all the cash from the booming market gains without some cut of the revenue? You'd never guess from the comments and debate that this tax was on oil production in the state. It should no more affect our prices than Alaskan or Texas oil drilling fees do.

Now is that the Real IRA you're talking about or just the Provos? It's hard to gauge just how bad your analogy is.

That's a stretch but if we could get teh Democratic nominee to admit that it would be plain sailing for the Republicans. Heck if we could get any Democratc to admit that it'd be game over.

The right way was to stay on top of the problem instead of abandoning all responsibility for years. The feds have let everyone down. Illegal immigration has run out of control and been in crisis for years. This is harsh on the immigrants but the real mistake was made years ago, not now. I can see why illegals feel abused, but they jumped the fence and took a chance against the desires of most Americans, contrary to a lot of representations. If the shoe were on the other foot you'd be booted out of Mexico in a heartbeat (just look at their southern border). I have some but not much sympathy for illegals, for the criminals who hire them or for the government who don't enforce existing laws. Actually I have a little bit of sympathy for some of the companies who get blamed a lot recently, because even the ones who don't want to hire the cheapest illegal labor must survive & compete in an environment the politicians and enforcement agencies have created. Whole trades where domestic labor would fill a role have evaporated, if you're in doubt just ask the U.S. laborers in post-Katrina NewOrleans who were fired in favor of cheaper immigrants, actually those contractors I'd nail to the wall, they were taking Fed dollars and fired their domestic labor to increase margins, I'd jail them for that. The whole thing is a self reinforcing mess, and unless you're prepared to bite the bullet it will only get a lot worse IMHO. As for the U.S. people, it ain't their fault IMHO, most feel utterly disenfranchised on this issue. The media & politicians pander as if there's something to be guilty about, and the recent history which none of us had any control over is used to beat us into submission w.r.t. dealing with the problem effectively. Trying to tippy-toe around the problem won't work because effective Federal enforcement isn't there and probably never will be.

All that is still pretty much required. A lot of it years after you've arrived in the country. X-Ray is for TB and most people from the UK will pop positive for the infection due to vaccination.
