Is there perhaps a setting in the mobile app that you need to change? Or you could just switch to gmail, where everything's synced across platforms. Bought ours through ihi bupa - it still covers skydiving (though it seems recently they've put BASE on their exclusion list). We got full year coverage since it wasn't much more than single trip, which allows encourages us to go on another trip. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Don't the CRW dogs say to carry at least two because you'll drop at least one in the adrenaline rush? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Horseshoes are best dealt with through prevention. They're one of those "no really good options" malfunctions, where your speed could vary from terminal or near-terminal to fairly slow. In the "fairly slow" situation you might have time to do some cutting, but in the terminal- or near-terminal situation, dicking around with your hook knife is not likely to improve the situation much, either, since you're looking at but a few seconds to impact, and your better (not great, but better) option is probably to attempt to get more fabric (e.g., reserve) over your head if you can't otherwise clear the horseshoe fairly quickly. My personal feeling on a hook knife is that I hope to never need to use it on a skydive, but I don't want to be thinking "gee, a hook knife might have helped" and not have one. It's on the USPA agenda for the meeting in two weeks. You may want to let your regional director know your opinion as soon as possible. 1) If you don't ask, you don't get. Always ask if they can work with you to give you a discount. 2) Ask to set up a payment plan - and stay current on it - BEFORE it goes to collections. 3) Document everything. Keep all your paperwork, make logs of all conversations - what number you called, name of the person(s) you spoke to, date, time, what you talked about, etc. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. No real downside to having one, and it might come in handy as this thread outlines. The only downside to having it is if you start deciding that because you have it, it'll be cool to do in-air rigging on a malfunctioning main rather than executing your emergency procedures. There are some not-so-common scenarios where a hook knife can help you get out of trouble, but I'd go so far as to say the overwhelming majority of malfunctions are best solved by proper execution of emergency procedures, not MacGyvering a solution as you are moving at high speed towards a planet. Insurance in U.S for non-U.S citizens
NWFlyer replied to skills4drills's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
http://global.ihi.com/travel%20insurance.aspx We used IHI for a single-trip coverage for the Belize boogie 2 years ago; this year we bought full-year coverage because the price increase isn't much and allows us have coverage for other international trips (hmm... time to start planning). However, I think for the full-year coverage, no single trip within that period can be more than 1 month, so you will need to go with single trip for yours, for a trip period of six months. Well, I just got an email from ebay: It goes on with basic fraud protection instructions, etc. Since the ad's been pulled down, I can't confirm the user name, but since this is the only communication I've initiated on eBay in quite a while, it's gotta be this person. Sounds like it was indeed "dodgy." "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. They're roughly the same dimensions; I believe they'd both be able to be mounted in the same way. As others have said, if there's an indentation for the audible, you should be able to hear it okay if it's mounted outside the helmet. However, many helmets have a pocket inside the helmet to put the audible in, so it really just depends on what type of helmet you have. If a ProTrack is in your budget (or you can find one used), I'd recommend that over a Solo II because you not only get the audible features, you get the logging features, which are nice to have. Are you limited to June because of your own schedules? I ask because I've found May and September to be some of the best times of the year to travel since you're just outside of the prime tourist seasons, but still have nice weather. Depending on where you're going you may have an easier time of it with reserving your tickets using miles. If you're talking this coming June, you may have already missed the boat on frequent flyer availability (unless you have enough points to buy the less restricted tickets). Japan these days is an interesting choice since tourism is way down after the earthquake/nuclear meltdown, and apparently things are still quite safe and reasonably recovered in much of the country. It might be a really great time to go and enjoy fewer people and some good deals. Here's what a grad school classmate of mine who lives in Tokyo recently said about living there "But life in Tokyo is far from the panic charged atmosphere the western press would like the world to believe. The actual threat to Tokyo is incredibly low so we decided to bring our entire family back and get on with things.... My parents have even joined us in Tokyo for the month to enjoy virtually no tourist crowds and tour southern and central Japan." More like a 10-12 minute drive; even those with a real lead foot can't get through the commercial area traffic that fast! But I'd second the recommendation - the price is right and it includes an okay breakfast, too. Basic, but clean and comfortable rooms. Former Seattle-ite here. I lived there for 11 years, 4 while I was a skydiver. The weather is among the best anywhere ... for about three or four months of the year. July through September are (generally) reliably awesome, with warm but not crazy-hot long sunny days with amazing views and clear blue skies. And then there's the rest of the year, which is hit or miss. The dropzones are all open year-round (though fewer days / week during the winter), but how much altitude (if any) you'll get on any given day will vary. Spring will often bring some good days. October-April can be pretty miserable, but then there's those occasional days where the skies are clear and the views of the snow-capped mountains will take your breath away. Those days tend to be chilly, but jumpable if you're willing to bundle up. I did most of my work towards my A license over the winter and it was a slow process, where I'd often do a hop & pop just to make sure I stayed current for the month. I did a lot of my jumping out of state when I lived there, partly because I love to travel and traveled a lot for work, but partly because during the winter, it can be the easiest way to actually get to jump. California and Arizona can be an easy and relatively cheap flight for a weekend trip. And I live in California now. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
