Rob Stanley injured in Thailand.? - scam or real?
NWFlyer replied to Rainmagnet's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Agreed, but last time I dug through the small print on iHi's policies (before the Nicaragua boogie last year when I bought a policy for it), they'd excluded BASE. I know it used to be a favorite for both skydivers and BASE jumpers, but now it looks like it's no longer an option for BASE. I don't know if the BASE community has discovered a viable alternative. Glasses or not, it's really important to try on a full face helmet before you buy. Go to a big gear store that has all sizes available, or ask around your DZ to try on someone else's. You'll find the shape of your head can have an impact on the fit. Then you can also try with your glasses on to make sure that it is comfortable with your glasses underneath. BA in International Relations, MBA with a health care management focus. I'm currently an internal consultant and manage a small team of consultants for a very large not-for-profit organization in the health industry. I herd cats and solve problems. No interest in working in the industry, either part-time or full-time at this point in my life. I do have a coach rating, but I do that more for fun, not for the pay or the free jumps. How much has your 401K earned you over 30 years?

True. That's still not an argument against 401Ks or similar accounts. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -

I've already told you I don't work for the government. Or maybe I do... and I'm using this thread to figure out how I can tax and steal what's in your cookie jar. Muahahahahahaha. Took the BF to the only Michelin starred restaurant in Oakland for his most recent birthday. Serious foodie experience - multi-course chef's menu with wine pairings. I'm the first to admit that's not our normal type of place, but we liked it for a special occasion. Reading through the Yelp reviews, though, it was remarkable to me how many people who fancied themselves very serious food critics spent quite a bit of time in their reviews talking about how the food hit (or didn't hit) their pallet or palette. Sigh. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -

Because many others have tried and failed so far, so I'm taking the comic relief approach. At least a couple people got the joke, at least. I'm just pointing out a rather simple and obvious error you just made in understanding eligibility for 403(b) plans, which calls into question your reliability as a retirement investment expert (never mind all the basic math and understanding errors already pointed out above). But you carry on, mkay? I'll stick with my own investment plans for now. -

There are special benefits to 403(b) not available to non gov't employees. Funny you sound so confident about that, yet I don't work for the government. I'm just happy I have a 403(b) instead so I don't have to deal with all these flaws in the 401(k). "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -
You've really hit on the #1 thing - coaching. It's remarkable to me that people who are spending $X00 per hour for tunnel time will balk at paying a bit more for good quality coaching; it makes the value of that $X00 so much higher. (Of course, lots of coaches have bulk purchase deals with the tunnels so that they can end up offering coached time at a rate that's pretty competitive with the "street" rate that an average person would pay for uncoached time). Good coaching should come with lots of time spent outside the tunnel, too - just like you'd dirt dive and debrief a skydive, time spent dirt diving and debriefing tunnel time means that you can get that much more out of the time you're spending in the windy tube. Debriefing should include not just the quick chats between sessions, but also a review of video after the session. Other than that, I'd say that figuring out what your personal "sweet spot" is for concentrated time in the tunnel is important. I find that if I do a lot of tunnel over a weekend (as in a tunnel camp) I can make pretty big strides, but there's a point of diminishing returns - everyone's point is different (and for me, I find it varies based on what I'm doing). While you're at it you can remove "Skydive San Francisco" - it closed down, and a new dropzone (NorCal Skydiving) opened a couple years later on the same airport (and NorCal has its own listing). How many people go to tunnel camps

Actually, no, they don't belong in there. Try the Wind Tunnel Forum. See, this is why I should leave these answers to the professionals. When I confront him to all of us around, I guess he won't be allowed to jump without AAD and the word will spread. I never said he's a friend of mine. Going in accidentally - it's O.K. but intentionally - exactly the opposite, I hate those people. That's sacrilege. Hate's a pretty strong word when a little bit of compassion could go a long way here for someone who is (apparently) troubled/sick enough to be considering taking his own life. So the DZ (or DZs) say "you can't jump without an AAD." Fine, he leaves it in and turns it off. They say "you need an RSL." Fine, he disconnects it on jump run. If, as you seem to believe, this guy wants to commit suicide by skydiving, you'd probably have much better results getting him some help than trying to "attack" the methods you suspect he'll use. Not sure if these were test posts, but I noticed several non-skydiving related events in the "Training Camps" section of the calendar (that all appear to be VERY old postings). http://www.dropzone.com/calendar/Training_Camps/index.html "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
