  1. Ever? or in a row? I'm guessing Tony Hathaway is probably up there for most consecutive jumps based on the stats he posted recently - I believe his cutaways were all years ago (but he'd have to confirm that): http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3214586 "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 2. Have a great one, dad. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  3. I dunno, but I'm not bringing my kitty. I've been to two hot as hell boogies in a row now - how about I'll come to the Farm when it's cool enough to need to wear that sweatshirt at night? (The only reason I had it out was because I packed it in my bag thinking that it might be cool at night camping in Davis last weekend. Silly me.) 4. Holy crap - it's out of print! I had no idea I was sitting on a potential goldmine. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  5. Sadly, I own the GTR album but none of the early Genesis stuff... you can keep that beer, I don't really deserve it. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  6. Steve Hackett - Genesis. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  7. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/Gear_and_Equipment/index.shtml Start with the articles by Lisa Briggs, particularly the ones focused on buying your first rig.
  8. If I'd been home all week I would have been working out but I've been out of town and at the American Boogie the last four days. All of my working out has been combat skydiving and hiking across landing areas. I'm giving myself a day of boogie recovery and back to the gym for cardio and some (highly restricted) weights tomorrow. I tweaked my shoulder on a funneled exit this weekend and it gets rest and ice till it feels better or till it doesn't and I decide to see a doctor about it. 9. I didn't take too many myself, but the ones I did take are on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/krisanne/sets/72157605779224333/ "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 10. Apparently my cat would like me to request an audition for him ... "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  11. I'll be your baby mama. You can have two baby mamas. It'll be very modern. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  12. Aren't you supposed to make new Rodriguez Brothers when you're sober? You're only supposed to initiate them when you're drunk. 13. Yeah that one was far too big for even one person to hang onto. I wasn't on either jump with the hamster wheel, but it required multiple people to control and needed to be jettisoned for deployment. The smaller inflatables can be held onto at deployment or let go. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 14. Thanks again to Morrigan and everyone in manifest for keeping the planes cranking this weekend, and to everyone at Skydance for putting on another smoking hot boogie (and I'm not just talking about the weather ... though that certainly helped). And thanks to Autumn for all that great Sacramento Bee coverage! Cool stuff! http://www.sacbee.com/1071/gallery/1032143.html "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 15. It's just a big hamster wheel - open on both ends. I think the first group took it out of the plane with people inside, the second group just tried to take it like a hoop jump. 16. One of the locals can probably tell us how many of these made it into the print version of the paper, but the boogie got lots of great positive coverage for skydiving in the online version of the newspaper (including my 400th - yay! Can you spot all the other DZ.commers in these photos?). I wonder why they didn't include any photos of Tui's penis jump? http://www.sacbee.com/1071/gallery/1032143.html "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 17. It was great to see Lisa and Mary on Thursday and Friday at Skydance running around all giddy like schoolgirls ... they couldn't WAIT to get on the trail. Looking forward to getting the updates from the field and seeing all the photos when they're done. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 18. 15:14:0. 15 minutes of tunnel time on Wednesday, 14 jumps Thursday through today, including my 400th today. Another very fucking hot but very fun boogie up in Davis this weekend. Kudos to the whole crew at Skydance for putting on yet another fabulous American Boogie. Did several great small to mid sized RW jumps Thursday, Friday, and today, and bigger ways with Roger Ponce on Friday. The 400th today was an attempt to do an 8-way with a terribly cute inflatable dragon out the back of the Skyvan ... unfortunately her tail and handles fell off on exit. But I still managed to ride the body for a while and it was a great skydive nonetheless. Now I'm sitting in the Sacramento airport, exhausted at the end of another great boogie, heading back home. 19. No, no, no, I'm going skydiving today. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  20. Bring your camera. Now I'm really sorry I'm going to miss this. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  21. I'm going to be back in Seattle by then, so I imagine that the entire city will shut down and nothing will be happening at all. These things tend to happen when I leave. Besides, you betrayed Othello. Why would we trust you? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  22. Well, that's a tough situation to be put in because they may have been told to keep their mouths shut, and layoff information really should come through official channels, as much as it sucks to get that information... getting it through the rumor mill is probably worse. But ... people can still reach out after you've found out and let you know that they care and they'd like to help. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  23. Having been on the "other side," I'm inclined to agree, and letting that person drive how they want to leave is key. As hard as it is on those "left behind," it's harder on those who are leaving, so you can't make it about you and how you feel - if they want to say goodbye to everyone, that's great. If they want to leave quietly because they're upset and don't want to break down in front of everyone, you have to respect that, too. If you do feel you have a friendship with people who are laid off, I'd encourage you to reach out in a few days. Nothing makes a layoff feel more cold and impersonal than realizing after you left that it really was "just business" when you don't hear from a single person you used to work with. It's understandable that the managers who laid you off keep you at arms' length. But if these folks are your peers and you feel like you're friends ... drop an email in a couple days to say "hey, I'm thinking about you. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out." You don't need to be overly sympathetic - anything you say may bring out some bitterness because, after all - you still have your job, so to them you may become a symbol of their resentment. 24. I'm sure the PD rep mentioned the Spectre and the Storm. I did my first 200 jumps on a Spectre ... very nice canopy. Super-reliable openings, soft, on-heading, never slammed me. I just put in a demo request for a Storm - I thought about trying it at Skyfest, but I'd rather get it through the demo program and have two full weekends to play around with it in more relaxed, non-boogie conditions. There's a thread on the Storm where you can get others' impressions on it, though - so far the reviews seem to be very good.
