I'm just trying to open you (and the others in NorCal) up to a conversation in person - all four of the folks that I mentioned would offer you interesting perspectives. Jeff and Lisa in particular have experience on bigway jumps and can give you a lot of insight from that perspective. Where you go with it is up to you.

Hey, Micah - There's at least four folks who have responded to this thread who jump around the bay area ... do me a favor and seek them out and have some more in-depth talks about canopy traffic. We all need to look out for each other in the air, and sometimes you can be right, but be dead right... defensive flying skills are a REALLY important thing to learn. Right now you're just coming off as defensive and not open to learning, and I don't think you mean to do that - I think you've got a more open mind than you're portraying here. Lisa, Jeff, Ficus, Marcel (and any other NorCal people I missed in this thread) - I jumped with this guy (at least once, maybe twice - can't remember) and talked to him a bit at the American Boogie this year. I don't get the same attitude in person that I'm seeing online and I think some of it may just be the nature of the online beast, and I really hope that if any of you guys catches up with him around the DZ he'll be open to a good, solid conversation about when and where to have fun spiraling and when it's just not a good idea. Did Tim tell you I met him on a flight back from Phoenix in April 07? We ended up spending the whole flight talking skydiving ... him telling me "no shit there I was" stories from "back in the day" and me filling him in on how things are in the sport today. It took about till touchdown in Seattle till we put two and two together and I realized that the "my friend Tom" he'd been talking about the whole flight was Tom Brown. It ended with the two of us waiting at baggage claim and him eyeing my rolly case and finally asking "is your rig in there? Can I look at it?" ... and then professing his shock that it was a lot smaller than he expected (bear in mind that I have a 210 and a 218 in there!) Sorry I missed him but I was having an amazingly productive weekend getting stuff done around the house that really needed to get done and that kind of energy doesn't come over me very often.

Maybe not the first jump course, but certainly by the time the student is off radio and planning their own patterns. I worked out with Mr. Clean this weekend. Well, I did actually get up and go to the gym yesterday morning and did a hard 45 minutes of cardio, then I spent the rest of the day yesterday cleaning out my garage and my storage room, and part of my office. Today I cleaned and re-sealed the grout on all the tile in my bathroom (which is a lot - huge tub and all the tile around the sink), and then I took down and cleaned six mini-blinds (soak and scrub 'em individually in the tub, then re-hang to dry). I'm not sure exactly why Mr. Clean took possession of my soul this weekend, but I figured I might as well take advantage of the burst of house project energy. It comes over me so rarely. Depending on which direction you're coming from, the liquor store in Sandpoint, Idaho may be your last option on the way to the DZ (if you're coming from the West, Kalispell is actually past the DZ). Of course, your best option is actually to stock up before you leave California because the prices are better there. And it's not a travesty, it's Prairie.
