Valinda asked me to post the names of the winners - apologies if I got some of the names wrong since I was scribbling them down really quickly last night as fast as we were giving them away. I'm also missing a few of the last few things we gave away to locals (t-shirts, lanyards, etc.) Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who donated. We should have a grand total of all the funds raised soon. I'm not sure of the exact amount, but I do know that it's a huge number, all of which goes directly to finding a cure for lupus. Thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets or donated. If anyone still wants to make a donation, remember that the Leap for Lupus Foundation is a year-round foundation and donations can be made anytime by following this link: http://www.leapforlupus.org/donations.html Leap for Lupus 2008 Raffle Winners Suquamish Dinner – Gus Donk 50% off Infinity Container - Blake T 30% off Micron Container including options– John Hardy 50% off Wings Container – Jeanne "Amazon" Cameron $75 off Bonehead Helmet – Jeanne "Amazon" Cameron 10 minutes Tunnel Time at Perris – Clint "Turtlespeed" McClure 50% off Wings Container – LisaH 100% off Skysystems Helmet – Sean "monkycndo" Horton 50% off complete Aerodyne System – Sean "monkycndo" Horton ... paid forward to grannyinthesky Eyes in the Sky Book – Eric Fields Gath Aviator Helmet – Debra Dansten Gath Aviator Helmet – Eric Thatcher PD Cookie Helmet – Blake T PD Hydration Pack - Dana "DangerRoo" Hypeye D Pro – Dave & Deb Correia Goggles – Little John K Parabatix DVDs– Amber Harper, Scott Wagner, Stacey "BirdWoman" Karl, Dennis, Blake T, Darrell Mills, Rich Simmons, Rex Menke Vintage LP Shirt 1992 – Scott Wanger Water Bottle – Mike McCray Alti-Mount – Gus, Dana "DangerRoo" VMax Jumpsuit – Gene DeLay Hanging Basket – Jeanne "Amazon" Cameron "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. It's sunny, but winds are 23 gusting to 28. So we're jumping... it's just hella windy. I did one and decided I'm watching from now on. Thanks for the bump. Yes, you can still buy online tickets today. Valinda's here at the Leap for Lupus selling tickets in person, and will accept online sales through the end of the day today. We're all having fun waiting for the weather to break. There are some jumps being made, but they're all military training jumps from 1500. The sun's starting to burn through the clouds, though, so we should have altitude really soon. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Take the T out to Davis Square and have dinner here. Pay the scalpers whatever they want so you can go to a Red Sox game at Fenway. Walk the Freedom Trail. Lisa has pink hair? Photo please! Well, that's what she said. Last time I saw her it was purple. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Of course the guy's from Seattle, home of the Utilikilt! "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

What did the pink-haired one do now? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Oh Where Oh Where did Scott Miller Go??
NWFlyer replied to wngarner's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Having taken both Brian and Scott's courses, I agree that Brian's style of course is very different and it's not for everyone. Scott's style of course was much more my speed. Brian's course is much heavier on the theory and science and classroom portion. Scott's style of course is heavier on the practical "this will help you fly your canopy" tips. Different people respond to the different style of course differently. When I took Brian's course it was over 2 - maybe 2 1/2 - days and I think (partially due to weather) we got in 2 jumps. Scott's course, over one day, included five jumps, and I felt like I took away a lot more that I could use on a day to day basis. The Flight 1 courses that are offered at Elsinore and DeLand are based on Scott's curriculum. According to the Elsinore web site, they're being offered in August, September, October, and November. http://www.flight-1.com/school/ http://www.skydiveelsinore.com/California-Sky-Diving/Elsinore-Calendar.html# "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 9 months ago? It may be her first post, and it may be biased, but I doubt she saw this post coming in November 2007. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

When I traveled all the time I would leave Seattle on the profile and add "This week ... Toronto" or wherever I happened to be traveling at the time. But now I've just decided to have fun with the map. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Jaye, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend, and that she is dealing with this so young. Here's some info from the National Cancer Institute that may help inform women (and the men who love them) on their decisions and discussions with their doctors. Hopefully Dr. Bordson will chime in on this soon, too. My mom had her first mammogram (waaaay later than the recommended age, but at least she finally had it, as her birthday present to me last year). http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/detection/screening-mammograms

I have no problem with the question and plan to answer when I get some time to write out a full answer ... I just don't think it's a slam dunk to answer and you happen to have asked it during a particularly busy time for me, including 5 days "off the grid" at Lost Prairie. That's my excuse - like I said, I have no idea why no one else has touched it. Of course, I have a blog that's laid out clearly what one could call a platform already, and I plan to add quite a bit between now and the election. I have answered (I believe) every question asked to the candidates in the forum. I'd venture to guess that of the candidates out there, my stand on issues is probably the easiest to find so far in this election cycle. It's the 13 who aren't DZ.com users, and the additional DZ.com users who have yet to post anywhere in the elections forum who may remain more of a mystery. As far as I know I was the only candidate there (oops, sorry, Chris Q was there, too), and yeah, that's part of the reason I haven't answered the question... the other reason is that it's an expansive question (unlike most of the others that have been asked which have addressed more specific issues), and not an easy one to quickly answer, so instead, I've chosen to not answer at all yet. That's my reason ... can't speak for the rest of the folks.

One of the things I've enjoyed about living in Seattle is the fact that our cable providers have CBC ... so I can always switch over to Canadian coverage. The Canuckians tend to actually show the events ... and a lot less fluff. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Ugh, yuck. I've been lazy as hell lately. My gym membership expired, and I've been stressed and lazy about eating in the days before LP, and then there was LP when all the exercise I got was walking in from the landing area and hauling my gear up the hill (which actually WAS a workout). But I have to drop my car off for some work tomorrow morning and either get them to drop me off or take the bus up to PT, and I think instead of taking the bus home from there I'll walk home (it's about 3 miles). That'll force me to get a little exercise, right? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. www.uspa.org Anyone else checked it out? Sounds like it went live late last week. I was involved in the beta testing, and having chatted with the staff at HQ during the process, I know they put a lot of work into getting the new site up and running. Yes, it was a long time coming, but I do think it's a big improvement over the old site. I work in IT (though I'm not a hard-core techie), and just looking at the design it appears to be the type of site design that sets the staff up for a much easier time of updating and maintaining the site. I think it's a good step in the right direction. Whatever your opinion, send some feedback to Communications@uspa.org. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. What was his reply? Actually, the best reply was Naked Dave's reply, who took off his own pants in solidarity. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -
Here's my photos of Bolas, pre-nudity. The other guy in the photos is Mason from West Plains (is he a DZ.commer?) I have to give credit to the whole West Plains crew for pulling the classic "Help us pie this other guy" trick on Mason, then turning on him. The 100-jump wonders fall for it every time. :6: Only six jumps over three days at LP, but considering that much of Friday was winded out, and my allergies were kicking my ass on Saturday, I'm pretty happy with that total. Thanks to Doc and Fozz for inviting me on their 500th and 400th jumps, and thanks to Horizon Air for crashing the party on Fozz's 400th (nothing like looking down a few thousand feet and about a half mile off in freefall and saying "huh, that plane looks WAY bigger than an Otter and what the hell is it doing there anyway?"). owed for making it up for my first almost sober load. Usually I'm awake but still up at my tent sipping coffee. This time, I was down there to provide comic relief for the group because I was incapable of remembering my right from my left. We still managed to get a two-point 16 way. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
