"regular" jumps during a boogie

"regular" jumps during a boogie
NWFlyer replied to SivaGanesha's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As for whether or not you can do AFF, that's a question for the DZ - whether staff will be working or playing is the big question. While there will be more planes in the air than normal, there are plenty of boogies where students continue to do AFF; whether the American Boogie is one is an open question. As for volunteering - I'm betting the answer will be an enthusiastic "Hell yeah!" Most of what a DZ needs help with during a boogie requires absolutely no skydiving skill whatsoever. Helping with registration of jumpers. Setting up vendor tables and tents. Setting up for dinner. Cleaning up from dinner. Collecting trash. Passing out cups when the beer light is on. All manner of other "unskilled" labor. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Page 18 & 19 of the manual show how to update the logbook totals. You aren't really adding the jump in, you're just updating the totals so that they reflect the actual number of jumps you've really done. So if the last logged jump was 66, you just need to update your logbook total so that your total jump number is 70 and your freefall time is also current. Then the next time you go up it'll log jump 71. You'll have a gap - it'll have logged jump 66 and jump 71, but they'll both be there. Edit to add - do you know what was wrong with your Protrack? Batteries? You might want to also replace the batteries before you go up just in case that's the issue. If it doesn't correctly log next time a return to L&B for a checkup might be in order. They'll fix you up right away. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. Seems you're never happy, Spence. When they advertise fake dropzones, you're not happy, and now that they're advertising a real dropzone, you're still not happy. Oh... THATS the feeling I got from that Jar...... Did you eat fruit from one of Michelle's jars? Funny how much Mic's reputation precedes her. She tried to offer Tanya a frozen grape while she was waiting for a load and Tanya just flat-out refused "Uh-uh, no way, I'm still jumping." The idea that Michelle could possibly be offering unleaded fruit was a foreign concept. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Private pilots flying jumpers
NWFlyer replied to BillyMongilly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe the theory is that skydivers see other FARs get broken/bent on a regular basis ("industrial haze", pencil packing and/or not bothering with repacks), so they figure that one's perfectly defensible if they like the guy/trust the guy/want the plane in the air/don't want to rock the boat. Maybe on a day-to-day basis it's no big deal. Maybe it is. But like all laws that get broken, it's when the shit hits the fan that it comes back to bite you in the ass. I think I mixed too many metaphors. My head hurts. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Things have changed since back in my day... no one ever charged us for printing. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

What sucks about that is that even if I added a locking gas cap, in order to see that I have a locking gas cap, someone would still have to damage my car to get inside the locking fuel access door. Glad I keep my car in a locked, enclosed garage that only I and one neighbor have access to. That helps add some peace of mind. The $89 doesn't seem right, even if it does include the SIM. A SIM is $25 for the pretty, bound version from the USPA web site. Or, he can just go to one of his college's computer labs with a high-speed printer and print out the PDF version. Every little bit counts for a poor college student. Maybe they're including a SIM and logbook with that? If they're throwing both of those in there, it's close to reasonable value, but otherwise... not so much. I had no idea we had one of those here. That's pretty cool and a very good value for the type of hop on hop off travel you want to do, Squeak. You seem to be okay with buses, which is good because parts of the west coast service (I think only Seattle-Vancouver, but maybe sometimes Seattle-Portland, too) are provided on buses instead of trains. But SF-Vancouver, no matter what time of year you go, is a beautiful ride. Hopefully it'll be clear enough days for you to see some mountains, though. Feeling Good, Fitness Updates June 6th - 12th! Post up!
NWFlyer replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Back to a normal eating and exercise routine yesterday and today. Hoping I can make that scale budge again. Sigh. Gym felt pretty good this morning though I did wuss out at 35 minutes instead of my planned 45 minutes. I'm still damn tired, I guess. tipping for recovered chopped canopy
NWFlyer replied to bigbearfng's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I sent JohnMitchell a ginormous fortune cookie after he helped me find my black canopy in pine trees last summer. I wanted to do something to show my appreciation that he took a bunch of time when he could have been jumping to tromp around in the woods trying to find that damn thing (which immediately activated all cloaking devices upon cutaway), even though I know he did it as a friend and fellow skydiver and expected absolutely nothing in return. I was sneaky and had it sent to his house so he didn't have a choice. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. You See A Skydiver In the Middle of O'Hare ... What Do you Do?
NWFlyer replied to NWFlyer's topic in The Bonfire
That's awesome. At this point I don't even tell the whole truth to whuffos anymore (most of the time). Today when I was donating blood I was making small talk about weather with the phlebotomist and I was talking about how it was 100 degrees when I was in South Carolina and she asked me what I was doing there. I just said "Oh, hanging out with friends" because I didn't feel like getting into the "You're a skydiver?" discussion. Technically, it was a true statement. Just incomplete. Yeah, I keep picturing it in milk jugs on my counter ... then it really does seem like a lot. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

I just got my 4 gallon pin today, representing 32 units of whole blood donated over the 10 years I've lived in Seattle. No, it's not the absolute max number of units I could have donated over that time period, but I'm still pretty happy with the consistency of donations over those 10 years. Just a friendly reminder ... if you meet donor eligibility requirements, when's the last time you donated blood? Make your appointment early in the week so you're all recovered by the weekend to skydive. He never shot me... but some guy did come shoot me when I was in the USPA tent. That felt great! They were right next door to each other. Thanks, also, to USPA for putting our membership dues to good work and keeping those coolers full of cold water and cold beer. I enjoyed stopping by all day and taking a membership perk in between jumps. Nice to meet some of the HQ staff in person who came down to (wo)man the tent. J, go home and sleep for a week before you feel the need to do anything. Seriously, man, you've earned it.

I just put a new pilot chute on mine solely because of the wear at the bridle attachment point (just under 400 jumps as far as I know - I bought the container used but I am making the assumption that the PC was original to the container, which was almost brand-new when I got it). I think the PC itself still has quite a bit of life in it, so if it winds up being cost effective I'll probably just get a new bridle put on so I can keep this old one around as a backup. I want to thank Lyle's son for discovering that he could put ice melt directly from the cooler into his high-powered squirt gun and spray it at unsuspecting targets (suspiciously, mostly women). After the first time he took aim at my chest while I was wearing a tank top (and it had the expected headlight effect) I took one look at the kid and said "Uh, are you old enough to realize how pervy this is?" The shit-eating grin on his face made me realize he knew exactly how pervy it was. But damn, ice cold water from a spray gun felt so good I was happy to indulge his pubescent horniness.
