New tunnel near Vancouver International Airport?
NWFlyer replied to riggerrob's topic in Wind Tunnels
Probably very few if the rumored tunnel near Southcenter Mall (just south of Seattle, near Sea-Tac airport) comes to fruition. But who knows what'll actually get built, when. And of course, if both are there, exchange rates could wind up being a contributing factor in which tunnel looks more attractive. My own computers have always been PCs because they work for my needs and the cost/value equation makes the most sense for me. At work (where I seldom, if ever, have a choice) it's always been PC as well in a variety of environments from small start-up to extremely large enterprise. And I've found that most Mac users have drunk the corporate Kool-Aid so much that they become incredibly smug and arrogant about their choice to use Apple products. Maybe it's the right choice for them, but they can't possibly see that it's not the right choice for everyone. It's just a consumer product, people. Yes, yes it does. Today it just reset all my notification settings so I get email notifications for everything. Do not want. Except it won't let me change them back to what I want. Fail. I like your wife. Congrats on the first 5K! (BTW, paragraph breaks are your friend - that was hard to read!) "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

My first bong sighting was in the bushes by the school bus stop when I was about 10 or 11. I can't recall whether I knew what it was or if one of the other kids had to tell me what it was. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure it was college before I saw one again, this time in use, and a few times since then. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Now that would be funny. It's 1/3 of 666 so we're 1/3 of the way to armageddon? Nah, I just happened to see something posted elsewhere about Constitution Day and did the math. No, I meant what if the woman is fatter than the guy and the guy is shorter than the woman? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Happy Constitution Day! http://www.constitutionday.com/ May it continue to provide stable governments and peaceful transitions of power for at least another 222 years. Oooh oooh I know ... pick me, pick me! A DZ (Hollister's the one I've jumped at, though I'm sure there are others) in which the airport and the landing area are at substantially different elevations. At Hollister it's a 450 ft offset, for example. So what can I get with my 10 points?? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Frustrating News Article RE Lodi Accident
NWFlyer replied to topper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Considering they didn't even bother to get the FACTS straight in an opinion piece, I wouldn't put much stock in it. Robbie was most definitely not a woman, and the author also has the hometowns of the two reversed. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. I beleive the entanglement with the ringsight is a poster here. His user name escapes my mind. Probably piisfish. His original video was on skydivingmovies so I can't compare to be sure, but the details sound about right: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2180088 "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. We could probably argue all day about who the "best" freefly coaches are (and not being a freeflyer myself, I haven't a fucking clue). But based on the OP's (apparent) low experience level there are more likely more appropriate coaches than the Red Bull team, at least until he gets up to a certain level of skills/experience and can benefit from the additional skills that world-class skydivers bring to the table. Not that there's anything wrong with getting coaching from the best of the best early on, but it's usually not going to be the most cost-effective solution (unless one of 'em happens to be readily available at a local DZ) when there's likely someone more local that can teach/coach the basic skills at a much lower rate. Or we could just continue the pissing contest over who's the best, but I suspect that the OP is a new jumper who has heard of the Red Bull guys because, let's face it, they've got the PR of a large company behind them. The longer he stays in the sport the more he'll realize there's top talent everywhere and it doesn't always come with energy drink sponsorship, though sometimes it does. (And in case anyone reads this as a dis of the Red Bull team, it's very much not; I used to jump at Kpow and have seen several team members in "everyday skydiver" action and I have a lot of respect for their skill, experience, and openness with jumpers of all levels). I'm not very experienced in cooking Greek but do have fond memories of the cuisine when I lived there as a kid. Anyway, re: the above - I assume you're looking for a gyro texture where you can slice it thin? The times I've done it in the oven, I've had good luck if I really work the lamb when mixing the ground lamb with the spices. Some recipes even call for mixing in the food processor. Alton Brown has an interesting oven technique that involves finishing the cooking by putting a brick on top for 15-20 minutes (I'm assuming this "compresses" the meat to a better texture). Haven't tried it but it sounds promising. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/gyro-meat-with-tzatziki-sauce-recipe/index.html "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. That's a good price for a jumpsuit that appears to be in very good condition. Sorry if I'm not being sympathetic, but I don't see how the seller misrepresented anything. And if it was only $69 you should have no trouble re-selling it and trying again. Useless information. Women (like men) come in all shapes and sizes. "Medium build" is pretty vague. Did you ask the seller to provide actual measurements (chest, waist, hips, inseam) or did you just hope that your definition of medium was the same as his? Sucks that it doesn't fit, but without detail you're taking your chances whether you buy on eBay or on the classifieds here. should i worry about getting my A license
NWFlyer replied to f1racer696's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is true, but the A license card does give a good overview of basic skills that new skydivers should work on. If one isn't following the card, it might be easy to overemphasize learning in some areas and underemphasize learning in other key areas. It doesn't necessarily have to be achieved in a 25-jump pace, but it's all good stuff to cover and learn early on in the skydiving career. Should have just waited till next year when you can title your post "It was twenty years ago today..." Most professional DZ to get rated at in SOCal?
NWFlyer replied to EvanByrne's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I've never been a student or instructor at any of the DZs, but I'd advise talking to each (better yet, visiting) to see if they have the environment that you're looking for. If you go to Perris, be sure to look at both schools at Perris - the school run by the DZ itself as well as the Jim Wallace skydiving school, which is an independently-run school that uses Perris' facilities. Welcome to the sport. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -
Yep, most of my conversations with coworkers are at about that level. A few people know that I skydive, but those are folks that I've worked with for a while, or with whom I've hung out with for dinner or drinks after hours. Otherwise, it's just easier not to get into it, so I go for the vague but technically accurate and polite answer. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
