I suspect that the ratio of pissed off potential customers (even if every skydiver/BASE jumper in the world called to complain, which ain't gonna happen) to customers who think it's really fucking cool will not be a ratio that the Red Bull marketing folks give a rat's ass about. Let's face it. Skydivers and BASE jumpers aren't the people Red Bull is trying to reach with these ads/videos/promotional activities. Sure, they're doing some stuff that may have appeal to fellow jumpers, and Red Bull marketing team people will show up at boogies/tunnels with coolers of Red Bull from time to time, but while the content may be skydiving and BASE jumping, the audience is a much larger and broader group of potential customers who just think it's extreeeeeeeme. Yes, and I'm all for promoting pedestrian safety and "reminding" drivers when I have the right of way. But when they're being an asshole, you can be right all you want and still end up in the hospital. So there's a limit to when I'll make a point by moving into the intersection and when I'll just curse at 'em. Eye contact is key - it helps you figure out who's actually going to stop and who's going to be a dick. And Alex, trust me, having actually been hit by a car, you really don't want that. Yes, I am! Rick said he'd even show me a bong someday! He's so thoughtful. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

Would depend on a lot of factors, particularly whether I knew who the company was and knew anything about them. If it's an anonymous ad, hell to the no. If the company is up front about who they are and the job description is complete and specific as to the actual duties ... maybe, and I agree that the more professional type photos would be best. But it would definitely set off red flags for me. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. They aren't allowed to turn away a true emergency. But this isn't about politics, it's about someone who wants to buy insurance for the US and was inquiring about costs (and just because an emergency room is required to treat you doesn't make it free). Go talk about health reform in Speakers' Corner because there's plenty of threads there. To the OP if you want to understand our laws, this is a good overview. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Medical_Treatment_and_Active_Labor_Act It sounds like your friend wants to do the smart thing and buy insurance - hopefully one of those links above will work (or others will chime in with ideas). Travel insurance policies can also cover other expenses like medical evacuation, travel home/costs of changes in travel plans, etc., all of which are very real possibilities on a trip abroad. A friend of mine from Norway spent a few days in the hospital here earlier this year after a relatively-minor skydiving accident; because he had bought a comprehensive travel insurance plan he wasn't concerned about the costs of the treatment nor the costs associated with changing his travel plans. That kind of peace of mind is worth it to me - one less thing you have to worry about when you're trying to heal. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. My cat's already plenty shiny as it is. I feed him high-quality food so his coat has a lovely sheen. You have an electric cat?

Here are two that I've found that don't exclude skydiving. Note that I was focusing on plans available to US citizens traveling abroad, so there may be more that apply to non-citizens visiting the US: https://global.ihi.com/travel+insurance/single+trip.aspx Seems to be available to pretty much anyone worldwide. http://www.imglobal.com/about/ (might only be available to US citizens / foreign nationals but it might be of interest to others besides your friend) Note that I haven't yet purchased/used any of these; I found them in doing research for an upcoming trip. They're all kinda cliche, IMHO. I'm betting you can come up with something more fun and creative (and still very sexy) on your own. That said, if if I had to pick one of them, Miss Video Game made me laugh. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Non-profit Insurance companies? Why can we not have that?
NWFlyer replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Um, non-profit insurance companies exist in the U.S. already. I happen to work for one. A not-for-profit organization doesn't return its margins to investors, it reinvests them in the business. Insurance companies (like most organizations) don't run on salaries alone. They require capital investments and upgrades (physical plant and information technology, among other things). How's that gonna work? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke -
If I know I'm going to be skydiving on the weekend, I will only donate on a Monday or Tuesday. That's worked out fine for me. YMMV. I'd reverse the red & green. Green should mean beer is a GO! (or bitch beer, if that's what you prefer ) "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke

See also "milestone jump." "Hey, it's my 200th jump, why don't we do a full Otter load of all my friends. Yeah, it's okay that some are belly fliers and some are freefliers and one guy just got his A license. We'll just do a big round." Why are you letting the container drive what size canopy you're going to buy? Why don't you decide what size main (and reserve) you want, then find a container that will fit those canopies? According to the size chart, that container will take (at largest) a 150 reserve (since 160 Optimums aren't available yet). If a 150 main is too small for you (and you seem to realize that since you're planning to sell the Spectre) so is a 150 reserve. It's kind of a double-edged sword. The longer I'm in the sport (and at just over 5 years, I haven't been around very long, I realize) the more I learn about all the things that can possibly go wrong and all the ways in which they can possibly go wrong. That gives me a healthier respect for exactly what I'm accepting when I say "I'm accepting the risk" but it also gives me pause sometimes as it all really, truly sinks in. On the flip side, gaining a deeper understanding of the risks helps me to better identify the part I can play in minimizing risks, and have an even healthier respect for the rules/guidelines that are put in place to try to keep all of us safe around each other.
