  1. Could you please explain what exactly "legal war" is? Edit to correct spelling
  2. Here is completely independent opinion (since I'm not US citizen) I volunteered after first year or college and served my country for two years (getting completely miserable pay check). It was a very tough time but a thought of quitting never crossed my mind and senses of duty, honor, or loyalty were definitely helping and encouraging me. Do I think this guy is a coward? Hell no. I do not even know him, his history, his background and his believes. His refusal to go isn’t something I would do but at the same time I hate to see when people yell: shoot him or put him in jail. The guy never abandoned his brothers on front lines … period. Examples from WWI and WWII are completely inappropriate here. P.S. My hat was green to, so bite me ...
  3. I would really like to know if there is any correlation between the numbers of legally produced and sold wepons and numbers of illegal weapons in use.
  4. I am. And I still have very mixed fillings about the system. Unless the enemy is attacking your home contry and they need everyone on front line, military is not for everyone.
  5. Lol .... no matter how hard I try, J is always a split second faster
  6. Perfomance landings are not forbidden - they only allow 180 if you use main landing area but you can do whatever you want if you use HP landing area - there is a pretty big field on the other side of the main hangar, but the surface isn't that good though. A lot of people including Vibe are using a strip on the other side of runway. It is also a good place to land if wind is blowing from the south and creates a lot of turbulence near the hangar. In any case, there is plenty of room for you if you want to hook. There will be a birthday party Saturday night - a god chance to socialize with dz folks. If you plan to crash at bankroom, I recommend to reserve a bad in advance. Simply find the one you like you drop some of your staff. P.S. I strongly recommend to try some food from Chef Mike's cafe - he makes excellent staff.
  7. i was referring to the latter, a 'pre-planned' night jump. so would you borrow a larger 150+ canopy to do it? The chances of loosing a main canopy in case of night jump cut-away are much higher than for a "normal" day time jump. Consider this when borrowing a canopy
  8. I really liked the idea of using down time for learning how to pack. Most of beginners pack very slow or prefer to hire a packer because they are not confident in their packing skills. By learning how to pack as early as possible in your skydiving progression, you will geain more confidence (learn more about the gear) and will probably save some money in future. Not to mention that socializing at DZ will help you to get to know your instructors and find some future jump buddies.
  9. Not a TI joke, but I think it is related to this thread. A friend of mine did a tandem and liked it so much so she decided to make another one on the same day. I knew that she was fixing to go up with different instructor who will probably let her stir a canopy after opening since she did very well on her first jump. So I told my friend to wait until they start a pattern and then tell her TI that she is kinda bored with straight in landings and ask is she could do a 270 front riser hook
  10. Bipole is my favorite one, especially the setup - head jaming in the middle of Otter door, face in, butt out, both hands are full of grips, looking at point who is giving a count while balancing his body with inside and outside centers feet laying on his shoulders ...
  11. There is no straight answer because there are many variables. I had mine before I started to jump and the only problem was lack of ability to arch. Stretching on regular basis helped a lot but it was a painful experience in the beginning (actually, still is). I would definitely chose a slow opening canopy (how critical the opening sppeds are will depend on particular type of injury) and refrain from doing aggressive freefall work (freeflying, 4-way) in the beginning. Heal well!
  12. Chill out, brother I don't remember telling you what to do and what not to do. To all: I do not see a point of continuing this argument with you but I sincerely hope that you never experience a need to take a human life.
  13. Then lock it up and do not carry it Pulling a gun and not being able to use it before you get shot might make the situation even worse. Perhaps you should ask yourself if you are ready to use your weapon under serious pressure.
  14. Guns are too scary, my first choice was aways run away
  15. I was always taught to only pull/aim a weapon if decision to shoot is made. In my opinion, you should not even consider carrying a weapon if you have any second guesses. Weapons are made to kill. That's why I believe most of the people do not need them but that's a different topic. Edit to correct spelling
  16. What PJ said. Anyway, who's talking about "Efficient" usage. Surely it's "Safe and Responsible" usage we're talking about here. Are the overwhelming majority of legal gun owners responsible and competent? Sane and safe? HELL YES!!!! Mike. Edited to add an example: Me & PJ have disagreed very violently on a number of issues... But I KNOW that if I stood in front of him he wouldn't shoot me. (Err... You wouldn't? Would you? PJ? Mate?). Sane? Yes, without any doubt. Safe? Yes, most know how to load'n'lock and pull the trigger without killing themselves. Trained? Hell no. Here is my question: You have a gun in your pocket. Someone ambushes you in this parking garage, points a gun at your face and asks for your wallet. Are you good enough to use your weapon to inactivate the attacker? Do not answer here, just ask yourself this question. May be you are that good, but what about the average guy? A lot of people fool themselves thinking that they keep the weapons for their personal protection. The reality is that the real attacker in real life is usually more active that a paper target. I got my own hunting rifle when I was 11. I spent two years in military and worked for several years in private security company focused on personal protection. Now I am just a regular civilian guy and I do not need a gun. But again, this is my personal opinion.
  17. Dan BC warned in his article that practicing spontaneous visualization can potentially result in making a spectacle of you. Most people probably think the person has some sort of compulsive disorder, but this one was really funny. I was on this party last Saturday night and bumped into very attractive student from our school. So we started to chat and she asks me all kinds of questions about the classical balletInitially I could not understand why the whole ballet topic came up so I asked her what makes her think that I am an expert. She replied that last week she was passing by the bus stop and saw me dancing LOL
  18. This is a laughably false assertion, and I would really dearly like to know what you think you are basing it on. Research? A study of some sort? Your own gut feeling?... Nothing solid, I can assure you of that. -Jeffrey The statement is based on my personal experience and experience of a few Texan friends on mine who owe guns and practice shooting a LOT. I used to be member of shooting club in Texas where I had a chance to watch hundreds of gun owners practicing with their own weapons. My opinion is that most of them would not be able to use their weapons effectively in a case of real danger. Believe me, knowing how to aim towards the target and pool the trigger is NOT enough. This is my personal opinion. It is based on very extensive military training and experience with to many different kinds of weapons to list here. However, if you know better and wish to educate me, I am ready to listen closely.
  19. I was always wondering where do illegal weapons come from and is there any relationship between the numbers of manufactured weapons meant to be "legal" and numbers of "illegal weapons" on streets? Teaching boys how to shoot is a good idea, but I have a little problem with that. The vast majority of legal gun owners themselves are not skilled enough to use the weapons efficiently.
  20. I know a lot of people jumping CF2's and never heard anything bad about the airfoil or Icarus customer service.
  21. Genetic conservation from warms to humans is one of the best evidences of interspecies evolution. On the other hand, we do not have any clear facts that would explain appearance of mind. Humans wonder and that's what makes us different from primates - our closest genetic relatives. Every time I ask my colleagues this question, I never get a clear logical answer. Well perhaps people who do not work in neuroscience field know better. And by the way, materialism is bullshit is a quote from one of the top Russian nuclear and rocket scientist.
