  1. I just got back from Vegas on Monday, spent 5 days there. I recommend the Blue man group, Stratosphere, Speed @ Sahara, Margaritaville, Bite @ Stratosphere (made me laugh all the way through, trouble is, I dont think it was meant to be funny). Steaks at the Harley cafe were awesome, walking the strip has to be done. Oh I also went to the flyaway place, I wanted to practice changing my fall rate, I could fly ok, but it felt like there wasn't enough air moving around, it was fun,but I didn't benefit from it. Only $40 though. Lee PS Standing in the Stratosphere, looking directly down through the viewing glass, I've never wanted to jump so much in all my life. I'm now looking into doing my first BASE jump.... Edited to add flyaway visit. 3. Anxiety is what I get when there is no beer in the fridge. This is just mild concern. Thanks for the comments. I'll let you all know the result when the rig arrives on Thursday. 4. I just bought this rig on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7104721512&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT I then read this post and had a minor panic attack. It checks out though, so far. I've tracked it on UPS and its on its way, so it wasn't a fraudulent auction. The guy seemed really straight up anyway, so I wasn't panicking. 5. During the early nineties I was on static line progression on round canopys and front reserve in Germany. I was last out of a eight man lift with the JM staying in the plane. As no 7 is about to climb out on the jump run (we all went on one run, 8 solo S/L!!) the JM shouts "the wind has picked up a little, face the DZ hangar all the way down." I exit ok, look up and have a good canopy, I turn it to face the DZ hangar, look down and I'm traveling backwards... at speed.. shit. There's some trees and then a 'No speed limit' autobahn behind me. I'm toast. I come down right on top of the trees 30 metres short of the autobahn, kicking my way through the branches. I end up suspended 2ft from the ground. I unhook legs and slide to the floor, then rip the canopy pulling it down. (I jumped the same 'repaired' canopy the next day... ) No injuries thankfully, but the worse part was seeing the DZ ambulance heading towards me when I'm still at 800ft. Not good. Shortly after that jump we were taught front riser control.... Lee Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
  6. Not too dumb, but funny anyway. I had done about 40(ish) jumps and was jumping in Northern Ireland. I'd previously only jumped PC, but these rigs were rip cord. 1st jump and I throw the ripcord away... oops... 2nd jump, I throw the ripcord away...... ... 3rd jump....you got it....I throw the ripcord away... this is getting embarrasing.... thats 3 crates of beer I owe... 4th jump.... I throw the ripcord away. Go figure.... Lee Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
  7. I'm 6' 3" but 7" of it is hidden. *snigger* 5' 8" 150lbs. Lee Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
  8. Thanks lads and lasses, I got a question though, whats the opening hours like over the winter in the UK? I guess I could go down to Netheravon (I am in the Army) and jump, but its a hell of a way to travel from East Anglia (where I work) or Newcastle (where I live). How many jumps do people get over the winter in the UK, I've got to stay in the sport this time, and that means staying current. 10. "Ours is not to reason why, ours is just to do or die" As a British soldier with 17 years service and over 5 years in the 'shit', I feel I'm qualified to comment. "quit bitching and get your kevlar on son, there's a job to be done." Bitching about the job is every soldiers divine right, but it shouldn't leave the bar/tent/combat tour. Dont try and make war all PC, it aint. Then again, those guys could just be trying to get some sympathy lined up so they can get laid when they get home... 11. No, no and no. I understand the theory of wingloading, but not how to work it out. I've never jumped ZP either. Thanks for your input so far peeps.
  12. Hi, I've got 80+ jumps, currently using a pd190 (rental). I weight 150lbs and I'm a 'floater'. I'm in the market for my own system and I have a question. What size main canopy should I go for? I've seen a 155 for sale locally, and I'm considering it, is this too small? I'm reasonable at canopy control and landing, I always hit the target and stand up, but I'm unsure about size's... Anybody help? Lee Blue skies. Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
  13. You know, I cant notice too many differences. BOC instead of legbag, some fashion stuff too. I haven't jumped too much in the UK (9 or 10 jumps in Northern Ireland) mostly in Canada and Germany (and now the US). I've been very impressed with the whole thing, attitudes, professionalism, friendlyness, its got me hooked again! I'm gonna keep current when I get back to the UK, however, I dont think I'll be able to match the 5 jumps per day that I'm doing each weekend here! My home DZ will be Peterlee, but I work in East Anglia, so UKParachuting is closest I think. Blue Skies... 14. Hello there, Geordie here, live in Newcastle in England, anyone from around that way? Wheres to jump, shotton colliery? I've done 70 odd jumps, but I didnt jump for 10 years, I'm out in California just now, working, there's a jump centre (California city) just 40 minutes away, so I went down and requalified. Done 20+ jumps this past 3 weeks. This time, I'm not letting this sport slip away from me again... Blue skies....
