Nice. I remember seeing FTP-like camera with skysystems logo on it in DVD. When I grow up, I`m going to be Norman Kent.

Building a Camera Box (Pictures, etc...)

Yes. You should read freefalle`s post. It is full of good info. dudeist skydiver #42 -
Yes, I have read your old posts, it`s been informative. We have a good number of static-liners, and on usual load (say AN-2) we throw them out at 3k feet, and go to 10k with less people. I can imagine airvan, in that case, would climb a little faster. Naah. We use small alarm clocks now. We set them on 30min, and go to sleep. Clocks wake us up when we reach the altitude. dudeist skydiver #42

yes. my first attempt of d-box had 3 layers (was bad for other reasons). We tried to smash it with a hammer, but could not. in that case, what do you think will happen with your head? seriously, just keep a good head position on opening (search posts for that, or watch latest Norman Kent`s DVD). dudeist skydiver #42 -
Thanks. * I think Pete is the person who offered it in the first place. dudeist skydiver #42

My friends here in Serbia are considering GA8 Airvan for the new jump plane on our DZ. So far we had Cessnas 182 and Antonov-2. We often don`t have 12-13 people to fill AN-2 couple of times in a day (+ AN is expensive) and doing back-to-back loads on 182`s is very slow and major pain in the ass. We had an offer for an airvan. So far I found that this plane is something to fill the gap between Cessnas 206 and turbines (206`s wouldn`t solve our problem, and we are too small for turbine). Those posts, although informative, were couple of years old. I`m interested does anyone have more recent experience in skydiving operations with this plane? Opinions, advice, tandem use, cost efficiency etc. Thanks. dudeist skydiver #42

Building a Camera Box (Pictures, etc...)

I did my first camera box in similar way. It had to be custom made because of the camera model. It was rough and jagged when I finished with the resin. Grind it, sand it. Then I took it to car painter who filled the rough parts/small bubble holes with filler and did some extra work with sand paper. Painted it with spray car paint. Total cost was about 30 euro (except mine and my friend`s work). We also made custom chin-cup this way. Resin is a bitch to work with , but there is great amount of satisfaction when you are done. just my 2`c blues! dudeist skydiver #42 -
I jumped without wide angle lens for the first 50 jumps. It was hard to get a good exit shot. During FF I needed to fly more away from the subject (makes you feel alone all the time), bad for the inside shots. But IMHO you can learn to aim your subjects better. But what do I know, I`m still a beginner. blues! dudeist skydiver #42

...and I was thinking on the "night" picture and I agree 100% with you. blues! dudeist skydiver #42

I think this can`t be called "fake". It`s just one detail that is fixed and it is already there before (you just can`t see it ) my 2c dudeist skydiver #42

I know what you mean, I got an elbow. Good choice. Plastic could save your life some day (from what I know). blues! dudeist skydiver #42

Is that cameye + ring sight that is dangling around guy`s head at 3:20? Plastic screws? dudeist skydiver #42

My former attachment somehow went into the "attachment limbo." Please see this one. dudeist skydiver #42

That was the practice here also. But the new law (about skydiving schools/training centers) issued here states that: "...during student training, operating mode of the AAD must be set accordingly (student mode)." dudeist skydiver #42

I have a PC-106 which can reproduce both PAL (native) and NTSC, but NTSC only internally, i.e. on camera display (It is like on yours, just the other way arround). The only way I could download non-native format (NTSC) is via USB connection. This camera has docking station with USB/Firewire transfer selector. I don`t know if your camera has USB connection option, but if it does, be aware. The footage you download with USB is nowhere near the quality of the Firewire and it largely depends on the speed of the computer. blues! dudeist skydiver #42

I am not sure about USPA, but on DZ where this happened (Bosnia), rapid maneuvers limit is 1000ft, then 90 degrees until 300ft and minor correction below. This event was at about 1000ft borderline. Also you know how students are like, sometimes they have brain-lock or just late in reactions. 1/2 - 1 second longer turn under Navigator with a 120 kilo guy... dudeist skydiver #42

Thanks phree and steve. That`s the kind of tricks I was looking for (and I think the original poster too). Now just to put theory to practice. dudeist skydiver #42

My TI is great and always gives good exit count, but when we exit small plane like Cessna 182 he is sometimes 1/2sec late on launch because of the passenger. Therefore, I go 1/2 sec too soon and miss the good exit shot. Does anyone know some body language "trick" that could help me here? (like watching some part of the passenger/TI body etc...) dudeist skydiver #42

52 weeks = 1 year. If I`m not mistaken. Jeeeesuuus! Did Vector 3 then fly by itself, and you didn`t need airplane or something? dudeist skydiver #42

In my case it`s third/fourth and I have a rig to jump in the meantime, but still, 16-25 weeks... My bad for wanting only their canopy. * But I guess it beats the former East Germany`s car named Trabant which had delivery time of 12 years. dudeist skydiver #42

My dealer is ordering new canopy from Icarus for me soon (in the next days, if he didn`t already). I`m also pissed about the waiting period. I mean, come on, SIX MONTHS! This means I will get it some time in April next year. I could easily forget wtf I ordered. If I weren`t paying for it that is. If I was the owner of the company, I would hire some more people, buy some extra machines... i.e. expand production capacities. Are they not aware that they will make more money if they make faster turnaround? On the flipside, I heard a rumor that they will cut down delivery time to six (6) weeks soon. But it`s just a rumor. blues! dudeist skydiver #42

Computer Techies--Tower Really Loud All of a Sudden
mircan replied to PLFXpert's topic in The Bonfire
With solution like that It will happen again for sure. But we`ll think of it some other day. Won`t we? I have noticed you also know the second biggest computer trick: "Tap on the side". I became engineer that way. blues! dudeist skydiver #42 -

Hi, 1. Two years ago at my former DZ there was an AAD fire under fully inflated/steerable canopy (PD Navigator 280). The student did sharp 360 degree turn at approx. 1000ft maybe a bit higher. He was a really big guy (205cm/6ft 9" - 115kg/250lb). AAD fired, he realized reserve is opening, did cutaway and opened reserve (RSL), landed OK. 2. I also saw one AAD fired on the ground, but due to the fact that the data from the AAD differs from what i saw and heard while standing one feet away, and the fact that everybody trusts the machine, i will not write more details about this. On the other hand couple of weeks ago I witnessed two real saves by AAD. blues! dudeist skydiver #42
