That has not always been the case. I've read recently where Harry Truman really needed his meager pension after serving. But today there is a lot of opportunities for ex-potus wealth creation. It does seem a little, well, unseemly. But it is clearly the American way these days.

Tesla, GM Lose Bid To Raise Ceiling For Federal EV Tax Credit
gowlerk replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
The fickle finger of the capitalist free market system seems to be favouring Elon Musk even over brenthutch. -
I was also sort of noticing a tone of malice here. Coreece often has angry reactions to Christianity not being given the place of high honour he feels it is entitled to in western and particularly American life.

Ha, whiskey is poison. And it tastes like poison for a reason. We learn to tolerate it slowly and congratulate ourselves and each other on our sophistication. The first single malt I bought was a bottle of Lagavulin. It was a mistake, it is decidedly not a beginner's whiskey. It is what I now call a "very manly" drink. In other words, it has a very strongly peaty taste. I hate the stuff. But that is the nature of a single malt, there are so many different ones and each is unique in some way. They all taste like poison, but some taste less horrible than others. It is a masochist's pastime to develop your taste in scotch. Blended whiskeys taste far better, that's why they blend them. I like Famous Grouse AKA "The Low Flyer" myself. But I'm game to try anything.

Those are all blended whiskeys. And they are fine. But the "trend" is single malts and for whiskey snobs to turn up their noses at blends.

Well then, that puts you into the Happy holidays camp I guess. I would remind you that pagans are not atheists though and they certainly did and do believe in mythical creatures! We have always been fascinated by the turn of the seasons and the march of the Sun to bring life back to the ground in places that have winter. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Enjoy it.

Do you have to be a righteous winger even in your drink? Loosen up man, your rep will survive a little sweetened alcohol!

It's the long lost San Antonio branch of the Ken Klan. I haven't been there for a while but I used to visit The Alamo and Skydive San Marcos occasionally.

May God in Her wisdom enlighten you on Earth.

I actually drank some Crown with Diet Coke and ice last night. I was pouring for a friend and just did as he did. I can not think of a scotch that I would do this to. Not even Johnny Walker Red.

Just in time for the Holiday, or Christmas Season. (Whatever works for you, I don't want to offend any snowflake Christians) https://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/7-year-old-dies-after-accidentally-shooting-himself-in-the-head/273-9c7194ab-9a8d-4772-9cd5-47776a9727da

Are you aware that Boris is a raging socialist who was elected on a platform supporting pumping more money into the UK's one payer medical insurance system? God save the Qu een.
-
Yes, I know I was quoting him and directing the comment at him. I dislike the new quote system here and sometimes make this error.

Amy Klobuchar has long been my favourite in this crowd. But I did not believe she had much of a chance. It's beginning to look like maybe she does.

The important thing is what do they want to do with the power. If the goal is to enrich or glorify themselves the the motivation is bad. But really, if that's what they want they chose a poor way to go about it. I'm of the possibly naive belief that for most of them the reason to reach for power is the true desire to do what is best for their society. Even Trump has an element of this in his motivations.

You are now exaggerating. Using the phrase "100 times the actual size" even though it is false. You did it for dramatic effect.

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998
gowlerk replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Exactly. The overreacting is a direct result of the frustration over the Koch brothers paid for effort to deny that there is even a problem. That has turned it into a more political issue than it should be. Warming is happening, it is being driven largely by CO2. It is in our best interest that we reduce emissions. We should not panic. Warming is here and we will deal with it. It will be easier to deal with if we make an effort ti limit it. That's all. -
Really? Imagine that! Pelosi dares to go up against McConnell in the "playing politics" game. Of course they are playing politics, that's what they do and both of them are masters at the game.

Please note, the guy who wrote the editorial is retiring at the end of this year. Nothing to lose. I heard him interviewed this morning.

I like hugs.

Sometimes new jumpers get to be overcome with the excitement of their new sport. Sometimes they need to express themselves here as keyboard warriors. You have now stepped into the territory of someone who really needs to lurk more and post less. You aren’t the first and you won’t be the last.

Tesla, GM Lose Bid To Raise Ceiling For Federal EV Tax Credit
gowlerk replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
The only one I would drink from is the big one in the background. I like whiskey flavoured whiskey please. I do approve of Crown though. It's made about 2 miles north of our DZ in Gimli. When the wind is right you can smell the fermented mash. The steam from the still is our wind indicator. -
That's easy. She will use the media as a weapon. Didn't sort that out in another thread?

It pretty clearly would seem to be another way of saying “hold them accountable”. What do you think it means? Do you think leader should be held accountable?
