People have mostly moderated their views on gays because gays have come out and people have discovered that they are their friends and family. That horse is out of the barn. Reproductive rights on the other hand........ well, I'm not talking about convincing people. You can work on that if you want. but I'm not going to waste my time talking to the wall. It is a flat out fight and will only be won by fighting.

The right wing push to appoint conservative judges is part of an attempt to turn back the clock. You are not wrong Joe. They are doing whatever they can to undo the basic human rights that have been gained in the past 60 years or so. I don't care if reactionaries are having a hard time adjusting. You and I and the real moral majority can not and will not let them succeed. Either in Canada or in the USA.

What Usually Comes w/ a Used Canopy?
gowlerk replied to PlaneFun's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What are quicklinks? Canopies shipped with Dacron lines usually are on Mallion Rapide links. And PD offers them instead of Slinks if you order them that way. But either way, skydive canopies from the manufacturer will always come with links to attach them to risers. That is the agreed upon PIA standard. Containers makers supply risers and canopy makers supply links. Edit, never mind the question about quick links. I see that is a generic name for what we are both speaking of. -
What Usually Comes w/ a Used Canopy?
gowlerk replied to PlaneFun's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would call bullshit on this. Unless you are talking about BASE or other non-skydiving canopies. However, you are right that when you buy a used canopy by mail with no inspection you never know what you will get in the end. -
The fact that USPA is allowed to offer affiliation to Canadian DZs as a fig leaf cover is something that should be taken up with the FAI and the Canadian Aero Club in my opinion.

The CARS require use of parachutist restraints on aircraft in Canada. What kind of disagreement could you possibly have had? General Use of Safety Belts and Restraint Systems 605.25 (1) The pilot-in-command of an aircraft shall direct all of the persons on board the aircraft to fasten safety belts (a) during movement of the aircraft on the surface; (b) during take-off and landing; and (c) at any time during flight that the pilot-in-command considers it necessary that safety belts be fastened. (2) The directions referred to in subsection (1) also apply to the use of the following restraint systems: (a) a child restraint system; (b) a restraint system used by a person who is engaged in parachute descents; and (c) a restraint system used by a person when working in the vicinity of an opening in the aircraft structure.

I have been questioning this in my mind as well. This is Baghdad, doesn't the US have the ability to apprehend pretty much anyone with the help of the Iraqi military at the Baghdad airport? Why was a drone strike and a Hellfire missile needed? Unless of course they knew that they had no grounds to just kidnap and hold him instead of a simple assassination.

And irrationality has always worked in the past? I suppose in a way it has. At this time the Strait of Hormuz is still open for the tankers to pass, the House of Saud is still more or less in control of the largest oil fields and still selling their soul to the west. There is no united Arabia, the tribes are still divided. And most importantly Persia has not been able to reform anything like a Caliphate. So, the west has been able to accomplish it's main objectives for the last century. It's just too bad for the US that it has had to bear most of the cost. Suckers. And by the way, who are you to define rational?

Who would’ve thought politics in the Middle East could be so complicated?

This was an assassination. America will refuse to call it that, but that’s what it is. Congratulations they have just made murder an acceptable part of foreign policy and state craft. They will not like it when the other shoe falls. This is clearly the opening shot in Trump’s election year war.

Before you go accusing me of not having a sense of humour maybe you should try using a joke that contains something more than just expressing your meanness.

Not only a billyvance level of crude, but shows complete ignorance of the fact that HIV is most commonly spread among straight couples.

You do not believe that they are not based on? What a clever man you are using a double negative to obscure your prejudices. I have faith in my gear, not as a superstition or a miracle but as a machine of man. I pretty sure your faith is not strong enough to lead you to step out of an aircraft in flight without a rig and to rely only on prayer to prevent your suicide. You have evidence only of your belief. Just like your Muslim neighbours have their own evidence of their believe.

Well Ron, that is how you see your particular religion. But there are many many more organized religions in the world. I’m willing to wager that you see almost all of them as mere superstition. Just the same as I see yours.
-
That’s nothing more than another lame attempt to minimize the influence of those you do not agree with.
-
Just like a tax cut?
-
Organized religion is really nothing more than organized superstition. The advantage of it of course, organization. The disadvantage of it is that it can be misused like any organization.

Maybe you know where the name comes from. Was it settled by the White family or was it named for a race?
-
You seem to confuse communism with atheism and want to call Stalin's murderous regime a religious battle. It was not, and I'm not going to be drawn into a useless debate over the body count of history. History is interesting, but not as important as today and tomorrow. People are killing others in the name of god today. Of course it is not the fault of god or religious leaders. It is a cultural and racial battle. God does not ask Christians to kill Jews, or Muslims to kill Christians. But someone does. Who?
-
Someone like who? The only people I can think of in our society who might do such a thing are evangelical Christians. I have heard many of them express great dislike of the Catholic church. It sure as heck wouldn't be atheists. I don't see any point here. This all goes back to the current "freedom of religion" movement. Which in rightwing circles just means freedom to discriminate because you believe god wants you to or some other bullshit justification.

Not a bad wrap up Bill. I get too distracted and can't follow along all the twists of logic. I lack the concentration to take on more than one or two at a time. It's dizzying sometimes and I doubt that is accidental.

If and when I arrive in heaven I'm pretty sure that I won't know anyone there.

Isolationism is one thing. White nationalism is another. As long as Steven Miller is a key figure in the US administration I'm going to believe with good reason, that the Trump team has a racist agenda. If you roll around in the mud with pigs you are going to get dirty.
-
It's quite clear that you (and many others) are fearful of the demographic change in your country. And that the feeling is strong enough that you will support even Trump if he can give you a vain hope the tide of history can be stopped. Is that racist? Well ask yourself if you would have the same feelings if the influx of new arrivals were European. Then you decide.
