That is would be the same as you paying it off. It is a tough problem for sure.

And mostly older no longer productive ones. Bring on the heat. Covid lowered the average age, but more could be done still.

Yup. This thread is on page two already in less than a day. Another success in trollville.

I think the error was in asking for permission in advance. We all know it is far easier to get forgiveness afterward.

Yeah, dumb. Sometimes the "fun" stuff is a little on the dumb side. If the FAA goes says "go ahead, have some fun, we'll just waive the FARS for you 'cuz Red Bull needs the event" and then someone on the ground gets hurt it would go over for them like a demo into Washington DC! If you want a playground with no rules there is a country not far south of AZ you could use.

Not a good look for the BRS system, but it's not really their fault. It was a nose dive that clearly must have been slowed down somewhat by the very short canopy ride. They are mounted in such a way that deploying one will put a reasonably intact aircraft into a level configuration for a firm but survivable contact with a reasonably level piece of the planet. With that huge airbrake deployed it was never going to level out. I'm not even sure what the point of even having it was. But there probably were scenarios during the testing and training phase where it may have saved lives.

The doctor (commonly called a dentist) is the one who comes in after the cleaning and looks in your mouth to check your teeth. The person who cleans them is a dental hygienist, and is not a doctor. Or an engineer.

Yes, and there didn't really seem to be much chance that anyone would. Has anyone seen video of the BRS descent and landing? The don't seem to be wanting to talk much about that part.

I like Nancy and I like what she stands for. She is very skilled. But just reading the headlines from this incident she does not appear to have handled it well at all.

They were doing a demo into National Stadium for a ball game. You can be sure there was professional level crowd control there. They were flying in a holding pattern waiting for the correct time to jump when an overzealous nervous Capitol Hill officer noticed them and over reacted. That is the long and short of it. The FAA were notified that the jump was to take place and granted clearance. They probably did not realize that the demo would involve flying in circles overtop because it is not something they deal with all the time there. It was simply a misunderstanding and a chain of events that has upset the Speaker who is a very sensitive lady and not to be trifled with. She is coming off as an overly entitled old bitch.

She seems more than a little over the top about it.

Apparently it is not that far fetched. https://armscontrolcenter.org/fact-sheet-low-enriched-uranium-for-naval-reactors/

HMAS Vexatious and HMAS Vampirious? Is that an Australian joke of some kind? Edit, yes it is. The whole article is an April fools joke.

And famously they will be US built, not French. Which has caused a cold war between France and Oz. It seems they want to be able to defend against an attack from the sea. Which will merely force China to use ICBMs instead.

It started with complaining about having to pay for it. He wants the pride and glory at less personal cost I guess.

Is the troll so out of touch that he’s just hearing about this now? Anyone who’s been paying attention this has been in the news for months. Old news

If it isn't going to be at least a double, why bother?

Not quite as they are not held by politicians but bureaucrats. They basically are make work projects for lawyers.

This is why the US religious right finds Putin so attractive.

I’m no even going to think about re-engaging. Joe and I agreed to disagree!

If everyone would just do their duty and get trained up and always carry none of this would happen. America is full of slackers.
-
Indeed. Just think how much better less progressive societies are to live in. It's a pity you can't be in Russia, China, or even better Iran.

Who knew it could be so hard?

IIRC you had a personal contact with the healthcare system that opened your eyes and led to a change of perspective.

Stay the course. Keep providing weapons. The number one reason Russia has done so poorly is that Ukrainians have stood up when they were expected to fold. The number two reason is the west has supported them with material. The number three reason is that Russia was overextended and poorly led. The game is now shifting to areas that are closer to Russia and easier for them to supply. And they will now be fighting on more favourable terrain with a somewhat friendlier population. This will most likely end with Russia taking most of the Donbas and keeping it along with Crimea. This will be the new reality along with a new cold war and Ukraine becoming not a full NATO member, but a de facto protectorate of sorts. This arrangement will be inherently unstable until there is some change in the Russian system. PS, this is the wrong thread for this discussion.
