Why don't we get a group together and go see them? PM me if you're interested. If there's someone to go with, I'll go...! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Good deal, Stephen! How I admire that. I've been a little chicken in pursuing that for me, but I really want to. How excellent for you!!!! Rawk on!!!!!!! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Yup. It is. Sometimes it's soooo hard. But it's also good. I'm glad he made you smile. Yeah, I know. And I can't do it every day. Some days it's almost too much for me to even get out of bed. But how cool to try for it, even briefly every day, you know? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

So what? I figure they are laughing at me, too...but really, the point is they're laughing...and smiling...so it's all good, you know? LOL Rev, it will take all that to make you smile? Go tickle your child. Get them into uncontrollable giggles...and I promise, you'll laugh, too... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Just wanted to give props to Stephen aka Blewaway5. He put up a thread about "Good Vibes...nothing but"...and when I was responding to that thread, I decided I was gonna "vibe" tonight. I grabbed the phone, and invited my father out for dinner, restaurant of his choice. We had a great visit, and long talks about politics (we are on different sides of the fence), both listening respectfully to each other's points. We talked about family and friends, and an upcoming charity thing we do together. Made it a point to chat with the server, and see if I could make the server smile everytime she came to the table. Made sure I spent a minute with the manager and let him know how great the service and the food was tonight, and thanked him for it. Know what happened?? Dessert and drinks were comped...because we were having fun and spreading the "vibes". Made sure a good tip was left, and then Dad and I toddled off to the bookstore, where my sole goal was to make people smile...and did that again. And yes, I bought some books, too. Which made me smile.

Newbie Gear Question: Spectre, Triathalon, or ??
Michele replied to Clownburner's topic in Gear and Rigging
I jump a spectre 210. I adore it. Yes, it opens "gently" because of the snivel. While I've had one or two really long snivels, long enough to make me start to think "huh? What's with this?", it generally doesn't take that long. And like Lisa said, your mind will get used to it, and your body will appreciate it. I've not jumped anything else but the spectre. I liked it enough while renting to actually get one of my own without wanting to check other canopies out. And yes, by all means, take the canopy class. HI, Cgross... I am not passing judgment...and I haven't gotten all the info to make a good, informed post about this. That being said, there was an issue with the 2nd heart/lung being re-donated. I am not sure what it was, but it had to do with the amount of medication in her system which made the situation untenable (I think that was it, IIRC). There is also a system in place to work within regarding inability to pay and transplants or other needed surgery. There is a percentage of donated organs which are "set aside" (you can't really do that, but you get my point) which go to those who cannot pay, are here for the surgery, etc. Keep in mind that there are many amazing surgeries which take place - the conjoined twins here in LA comes to mind - that are undertaken with patients from other countries who are here simply for the surgery (the twins were here from Guatamala). Now, the difference was that they were here legally, and the surgery went fine. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

I am so naive about all of this stuff, and it does sound fishy. But in thinking about it, could the exchange rate have anything to do with it? I can't imagine writing a check to someone in another country, because my checks say "dollars" on it, while I believe theirs state the amount in their own currency - pounds, lira, rubles, yen, etc. Just curious if that had anything to do with it. And yes, I still think it's somewhat fishy, and I would only do it if it were a wire transfer transaction. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Um, forgive me, but why is the area code the same for the east and west coast offices? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Not me. I like hearing both sides of the argument. I then take information gathered from the display and go research it from several sources. Then I think about what I've seen/read/heard, and make up my mind as to how I feel about a certain subject. And honestly, I think many more people do that then don't. As for this topic, I cannot see how, after a decade, there is all that much new information. Point me to the independent source, and I'll read it. What's happening is simply people are mistaking a debate for negotiations and diplomacy. It is not the same thing. As a matter of fact, a public debate can be very polarizing, as there are "sides" taken and positions adhered to, with an ultimate goal of convincing an audience of something they were not convinced of in the first place. Acrimonious and adversarial stances are adopted, to make a point. Negotiations are a whole different ball of wax, as is diplomacy. Negotiations are both sides come to a middle ground, neither one getting everything they want...and diplomacy is the art of saying the right thing at the right time, with good results (and in this case, disarming him is the "good result"...) While I agree that diplomacy and negotiations have a predominant place on the world stage, a debate will do nothing more than separate and divide. It is counter productive at best, as the sides will entrench themselves into positions from where there is no reconciliation. That's what a debate is about. I would think that the UN would be a great place for Saddam Hussein to plead for additional time, inspectors, whatever. Why he hasn't chosen that venue is interesting, and telling...at least to me. The US has gone before them several times, and made their case. I am sure that if Saddam made even the slightest indication he wanted to do that, he would be given the time and place...but instead, he makes a statement to Dan Rather and plays the PR game. Just my opinion. As always, ymmv... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Mujie, miss ya! Hope all fared fine with the feline family (say that fast. G'on, I dare ya! ). Hugs to you, girl- Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Just as a matter of clarity...a debate is not a negotiation. Nor is it a peace talk. Neither is it conducive to resolution. A debate is simply a formal argument, wherein 2 sides put their thoughts out, and try to "win" public support for their side. A debate is useless. Hi, Phillip Dunno about you, but I gotta say it simply doesn't matter if they were "true" or "not true". It's the lesson inherent in the stories which are important. It's not as if someone were "sworn" to tell the truth. It's a great compilation of parables which relate a truism for those who can see which is what's important. And I agree with you, deriving hope and faith and joy in the daily things around us is very important, too...but sometimes we forget to do this, and a post like his reminds us. TB, thanks for posting this. In this stressed world, and all the angst which comes from living, these are very important things to remind us about. And I, for one, thank you very much for taking the time to remind us of what's good and true. ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

LOL, Daizey...that must've taken you by surprise! Mike's on target, especially with her use of the word "real" and his explanation. I remember that, as a child, I'd do the same thing. NOT because there was anything really wrong at home, or because there was a problem with me and reality...simply because "play" can be more fun than reality. I remember that there was a lady down the street I named Granma, and Papa was her husband. She had a son who was married to a sweet lady. We all went to Disneyland one day, and I spent the day with my "other family". Called them Mom, Dad, Gram, Papa, and so on. My parents were aware, and didn't have an issue, as long as I came home to my "real" family at night. This went on for several years. And keep in mind that this was in the early 70's, too. As for writing a letter, let it go for now. Should she continue and persist, then perhaps revisit the issue. But for the moment, she was only playing, I believe. Um, well, that would be...uh, hummmmm....how should I say this.... FANTASTIC!!!!! And I know what it looks like now - there's this really big X that you can see really well from alti. So when you do come out, I'll be waiting to claim your time, my friend. I know it may be a while, but the sky'll wait. And at the rate I progress, I'll still be floudering around, grinning and flailing away. Oh, and Mel, that's the most fun hand signal, and to do it with both hands as you're flying through 8K totally rawks! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

Go for it. I may have to do the same thing, so I can remember that when I'm feeling frustrated and stomping around. LOL!!! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

first canopy question (spectre and wing loadings)
Michele replied to brabzzz's topic in Gear and Rigging
LOL, that made me laugh. Who cares if the canopy's lame, as long as YOU aren't, you know? I gotta vote for the Spectre. I am a terrible canopy pilot (but am getting better). I make mistakes on a regular basis. So far, I've been able to walk or limp away from all of them. And it's not because I'm lucky or special...it's because I am on a lightly loaded Spectre. I am working hard to fill up my experience bucket, and learn from all of my mistakes. But it's good to know that so far, I've learned while sitting at home, and not while lying in a hospital bed or worse. Spectre. I've never heard anyone who jumps one say they regret it. And I have heard people say they wish they had bought one. Which is why I bought one. Spectre. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~ -
Ow. That's about all I have to say today. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. It was like AFF1 all over again with all the new stuff I was trying to learn, and all the bad stuff I was trying to correct. There was some discussion at the end of the day about the container I rented being a little too long for me, sort of blocking my arch. I am somewhat hesitant to blame the gear, though, because that's too easy. Anyone have any opinions about that? (And yes, I'll try to be at Perris for the gathering. But no promises just yet...) Owwwwwwwwwwwwww. Damn it, but owwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
