Um.... Well.... You stalk really well, Chris! So well I had no idea you were doing it! Wow... I didn't break up with you, my friend. I have had life things (like working, Dad, laundry, etc...). You're not the only pm I haven't had a chance to return... Lessee. I don't have an 800 or 900 number, nor a cell phone. I will not be at home when you're done with AFF - I will be at Bridging the Gap. I've been trying to find someone who has a cell phone who will be there too who will also let me give you it's number...or in the alternative, to make sure it would be alright to receive a call at Elsinore's office. Or maybe what would work best would be a payphone, and I could call you sometime when you think you will be around...oh wait, in another post, you also stated your cel doesn't have reception there, and you will be using the pay phone there, too...so that won't work... You may not remember, Jan, but you and I briefly spoke at Perris over last Labor day. We talked about this a wee little bit (someone had just been taken to the hospital, IIRC) about this. You asked me why, then...and I've thought about it a great deal. You also suggested I NOT fly at that time because of the turbulence at 1000, and I did listen. Irrespective of if you remember me or not, finding the reason WHY is paramount to addressing the core. I have some thoughts on that, in a different post. I know why I needed the canopy course; I know what was said to me about why I didn't need/shouldn't take the course. The possibility that what happened to me is something which may clue in what's going on on a silent/subtle but widespread basis is one I've been thinking about...and unfortunately don't have the time to address right this second...and if you're interested, I will be happy to share those thoughts. Again, thank you for suggesting I stay down on a day when peers were encouraging me to jump, and giving me an excuse to resist conditions which were beyond my ability to handle safely at the time. Because I jump a larger canopy, I tend to get charged a little more. But because I am a slow mover, I tend also to only jump three times, and generally have not had a need to "get it right now", like I've seen others do. Additionally, I have developed a decent relationship with the guy who packs for me over at Elsinore, and there are several who I know that pack for me at Perris. Sometimes I ask them questions, and they take the time to answer them. It's not only about putting the canopy in the bag...at least for me. Do I tip? Yes, because they do take care of me, provide me a luxury. Last time I jumped, did 4, paid my packer, tipped him $1 per packjob, and handed him a beer at the end of the day. Hey, I didn't say I tip much... At the moment, if (hrmmm....perhaps I should say "when") I get a wonky opening, it is generally because of me, not because of the packjob. Just my thoughts... Hot diggity DAWG!!!! Chris, right now is the hardest part - the part before you go, the part up untilyou get your first breath of air...you'll manage to get through it, and you will fly!! It's all about faith, remember, faith and trust. And you know you can do this - the sky's been calling a long time, and you're picking up the phone. Rawk on!!! And I know you won't "jinx" it...sometimes, I've noticed, things get plopped in the way of our goals. It's not to dissuade us, but to teach us more about faith and patience and going after what you want. So, if there is one already, and it was introduced some time ago, why are the DZ's not teaching it? Lack of instructors? Lack of profit for the DZ? Competition between DZ's (Joe doesn't do it, so I won't, either...) and thus a loss of possible draw for higher paying students? Longer instruction time? Why? I think that the DZ.com logo needs to be a little more apparent, "loud"... how about just that in white, and the rest the way you have it? that way, there will be an advertising aspect to it (like everything else in skydiving), and more people will know about us, and you can get more advertising $$ and then you can RULE THE WORLD! What you should do is make sure you get a canopy control class.... which you're doing. You jump at Sebastian? Can anyone give her a contact point? Drat! I am gonna be at Elsinore Friday, Sat and Sunday doing the Bridging the Gap event...kinda intense for me; I am hoping to make it through the 2 1/2 days worth of education and jumping...should be able to rack up a few in that time. now, only if this tired old body can handle it... The two parachutes I've bought, both through here, were worked very simply. I took possession of the canopy, and had my rigger inspect it. Once he pronounced it fine, I sent the check along in a thank you card. Both times I offered to send a good faith deposit. Both times it was declined. I am not sure about anyone else's experience, so can't say if this is right, wrong or indifferent. Just that this was my experience.
