Hi, Sunny... I have had a situation similar - on both sides of the fence.... The time when I was wrong, I was chatted at by John LeBlanc...we had lots of listeners, but I also listened...and learned a ton. He took the time to talk to me gently and quietly, and used it as a teaching moment, for which I am grateful. Now, had he yelled at me, I still would have learned, but would've had a harder time addressing my own errors, and likely would have been defensive. The other time I was the cut-off-ee, I was cut off on final. Once I had landed, she yelled at me, and loudly, in the landing area. We both caught a ride together, and she continued yelling. I gently put my hand on her shoulder, and told her "let's talk about it in a bit. Meet me at the picnic tables after we've packed?" and she agreed...long story short, I went and sat under a tree away from others, had a cigarette and some gatorade, calmed down, talked to an instructor about it, and about an hour later I approached her and we talked. It turned out she didn't understand some of the dz's landing patterns (she was not a regular) and I made sure she did understand them - but not by yelling, by finding the gap in the education and filling it. I know me, I know my temper, and if anyone starts yelling at me, I shut down. If I don't shut down, I will yell right back...so I've found the best way to address it is take a few moments (or longer) between confronting the issue and when the issue occurred, and then take a position of education rather than blame... One of the things I've learned in life in general is that people do their best most of the time. If it isn't good enough, it's not because they're asshats, but because they didn't know. So it's about finding a better way, rather than laying blame. And if one approaches things from a "help" position rather than a "fault" position, the learning is accomplished...otherwise, it's just about defending. just my .02... I am home...and I am sad to not be in Nashville. More accurately, I am sad to not be with my friends...and wrapped in the arms of Hannah and Gabe, Sinker's kids. I need a bath and a serious cuddle with the cats, so pix and posts will come up tomorrow or wednesday (depends on my workload...). Suffice it to say my father, when he picked me up at the airport, said "wow, you look so relaxed. Haven't seen you like that in years. Good trip, I take it", to which I talked the whole 45 minutes home...and made him look at pix at red lights. Amazing time, amazing friends, and lots of love...no, we were not sucking in Nashville. I would've gotten toasty tonight, but Muenkel is ill so I am, "sadly", relegated to doing the driving...like that's a chore....HAHAHAHAH Oh my goodness, I am having such a blast. I LOVED that storm - Muenkel swears I was "dancing" in the lightning and thunder and cyclonic activity...but I was just doing my very best mitation of a SoCal'er experiencing the power of a storm - and yes, there will be a post...and yes, I got wet...and blown around...and whoooohooooed at the thunder. I am having such an incredible time...the film is at the store getting developed, and I am at the hotel in the lobby posting...but going up to bed now. Muj, love, I remember after splitting with my ex, and moving, that I was trying to put in a change of address. It took three tries - 3 tries - to get it right. Each time, I would forget something, and turn in the note to the post office. one time, I forgot the actual street address...just submitted "Burbank, CA". I had no understanding of it at that time...but what seems to happen is that we drop little, inconsequential things out of our head when we are looking at survival and recovery. Give yourself permission to forget things, take a little extra time when doing things, and don't worry too much about this. It's NOT alzheimers or early senility...it's grief. I live and work in Burbank, so can help you find the coffee shop - and finally get the hug I've been craving for two years!!!! Cora, take it one day at a time. When that is too much, take it an hour at a time. And when that gets too much, take it a minute at a time. You are leaving your home, your security, your base. And you are branching out and reaching for something new...it's always scary. But how amazing are you? How courageous are you? How wonderful are you? I will be here to help with all the little things - markets, cable service, Starbucks locations. And I will help with the big things as I am able - pushing the lonliness at bay, holding back the hoards of men flocking to you, you know, that kind of thing.... know you have a friend here who would do whatever she could for you (goes the same for you, Lew)... When the time comes to say goodbye, say thank you too, and hug a lot. And then, once that's done, take one giant step out the door to your future. You will be welcomed with open arms.
