I was 4, she was 22.

If YOU do continue in the sport, I really hope you learn to be less judgemental about other peoples performances during 'iregularities / incidents / malfunctions'... Are you trying to say that she DIDN'T receive apparently substandard instruction and lack the proper knowledge to stay safe in the air? My point wasn't to insult her, my point is that she needs better training and she needs to have a better understanding of what is going on. I don't want anyone who has the attitude that their reserve is a "guaranteed open" in the air with me. I'm really not sure what you mean by this. Is the general attitude when someone is a potential danger to themselves and others in this sport supposed to be "oh well, I'm just glad they want to jump again"?

More "great" skydiving publicity on cnn.com

I'm guessing by the contents of your posts thus far, that you don't skydive? Statistics are only scary to people who resign themselves to becoming one. -
If this girl does continue in the sport, I really hope she is started back at AFF1 with a good instructor and quizzed several times to prove that she actually remembers the things she needs to know this time before she is allowed back in the air.
-
Who the hell calls a reserve a "guaranteed open"? More like a "last chance".
-
It said in one of the articles that she plans to skydive again... probably not a good idea.

Scary stuff... glad he's "ok", and best wishes for as full a recovery as can be expected.

Looks good ...but not nearly as good as my micron

Need I show you video proof of my capability to "do it right" on hot, dry pavement in a sports car?
-
I was out doing that around the block by my house last night
-
Exactly. Most of those morons won't even take their H2s and other monstrosities out of the garage when there's snow on the roads for fear of getting them dirty.
-
I take side roads the whole way... Lemont Road/Main St. -> Archer -> 131st -> etc... The worst part of the drive was the first hour and a half... which was spent within 2 miles of my office. We're across the bridge, and the fastest traffic got moving before getting across was the speed my car moves with about 1/4 of full pressure on the brakes. I don't even want to think about what it would have been like had I tried taking 55 last night
-
You can use a handheld portable fan to simulate relative wind
-
It took me almost 3 hours to get from Lemont to Tinley Park last night. It's usually about a 30-45 minute drive depending on how many morons I get stuck behind.

A device to stop AFF and AFP students from giving "advice". A force field activated at 2,000ft to protect me under canopy. -
When to buy and when to rent?

(in response to the message from the 110lb person) A 190 is a big canopy for someone your size... I'm about 150 out the door and was put on a 190 initially. My instructors had me down to a 170 by level 3 and a 150 by level 12. I'm not saying this is the right progression for everyone (in other words, talk to your instructors because I have no idea what I'm talking about for the most part)... but you will most likely want to downsize pretty soon. I personally would have been very unhappy had I purchased a rig right off student status (or even worse - during)... as I'd have ended up with something I would have wanted to replace almost right away. -
Yea, damn them for actually teaching students how to use the gear they'll be using after they get off student status
-
Nice I've had everything there, and about 50 other things that would probably be even scarier to your ex

I always get the "how many jumps will be enough?" question from my mother and grandmother... but I think they are also happy that skydiving has kept me away from the two things that they really want me to stop (racing cars and motorcycles), so they don't really bug me to stop skydiving.
