  1. looking for Chris Walker that jumps between SDC and Zhills usually. PM me a phone # please or I'll give you mine to give him. Matt
  2. I agree with asking PD about it. Call Robin Miller or send the canopy to her there. When I was going to sell an older canopy I sent it to her and in the end the slider was 108.5 square inches TOO small for the sabre 170 which would explain why I thought my neck and back were breaking upon opening. I, in my limited experience, recommend to stop jumping that canopy immediately until you have an answer by somebody that matters more than I do. Matt
  3. I said it worked out well for him because there was no 6 week wait for him. I knew how long it would take for my new rig to be completed so I jumped other things at the DZ while I waited. Everything else you said, I said earlier as a reason the offer from Mirage was lower than a private sale. I have no problem with you having to offer less. You as a business become liable when you allow a trade-in and I understand you have to inspect and make factory new which is exactly why you told me I should look for private sale because you figured I could get more that way.
  4. The trophy was actually found at Navy in a storage room the day after they reported it missing. No real connection to the USMA exchange cadets was found, other than some faked computer printed note saying it was gone. Who really is going to run across Annapolis with a 170 pound very large trophy to some waiting vehicle? Not me for sure.
  5. Talked to Ward a couple times. He offered about $1215 for it since they'd have to check it over and recertify it as "new" or like new. He suggested I talk to people and see what I could get for it. I got $1500 cash from somebody else. It was G4.1 M4 with Nickel UNISYN chest/hip rings, custom piping, backpad, RSL. Fit the other person perfectly, virtually no wear despite 350+ jumps (used packing mat and it never touched dirt), no factory wait, and saved him the 5-6 weeks as well as $1000.
  6. If that was here and you were turned in for and subsequently "found" by the honor board to have cheated, not only would you automatically fail the course, you have a 95%+ chance of being kicked out. Keep in mind this is West Point and we asked to be here and signed the line knowing full well the rules etc.
  7. 50 caliber is 50 caliber whether you are shooting it out of the semi-automatic Barrett or out of the Browning M2 machine gun such as Carlos Hathcock did during Vietnam when he attached a scope to it and used it in single shot to engage the enemy, or hammering it down range at full auto. I just spent 30 minutes reading through the different parts of the Geneva Convention regarding the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May be Deemed to be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects. Geneva, 10 October 1980. Amendment article 1, 21 December 2001 and a few other conventions before requesting you provide evidence or reference to counter the evidence such as I posted. If it is in a new article in the Geneva convention, and signed and ratified by the United States, why have we not updated the Laws of Land Warfare Field Manual 27-10 to coincide? I posted the most up to date link to the Reimer Digital Library where the manual can be examined. I attended the Army Sniper Course at FT Benning in 1999. We used the Remington M24 (.308) and Barrett M95 (.50) bolt action as well as the Barrett M82A1 (.50) semi-automatic rifles. Again, please a reference specifically stating it is illegal to use either the 50 caliber round or a 50 caliber machine gun against personnel?
  8. I would love for you to show me in FM27-10 https://atiam.train.army.mil/soldierPortal/atia/adlsc/view/public/4803-1/fm/27-10/toc.htm where is says it is illegal to shoot people with a 50 caliber anything. I do not happen to see it anywhere nor have our lawyers (JAG) ever told us we could not use the 50 on people. Their guidance is quite the contrary. They say we can use anything the Army gives us against the enemy. 34. Employment of Arms Causing Unnecessary Injury a. Treaty Provision. It is especially forbidden * * * to employ arms, projectiles, or material calculated to cause unnecessary suffering. (HR, art. 23, par. (e).) b. Interpretation. What weapons cause "unnecessary injury" can only be determined in light of the practice of States in refraining from the use of a given weapon because it is believed to have that effect. The prohibition certainly does not extend to the use of explosives contained in artillery projectiles, mines, rockets, or hand grenades. Usage has, however, established the illegality of the use of lances with barbed heads, irregular-shaped bullets, and projectiles filled with glass, the use of any substance on bullets that would tend unnecessarily to inflame a wound inflicted by them, and the scoring of the surface or the filing off of the ends of the hard cases of bullets. I fail to see the text stating it is illegal to use the 50 caliber. I used the Barrett 50 caliber sniper rifle for many uses when I was enlisted and a sniper. Let me guess, you also believe that it is illegal to shoot paratroopers until they hit the ground? Wrong, it is open season. Only pilots from stricken aircraft are not allowed to be fired upon, until they hit the ground and make hostile action toward you, then they are basically asking us to demonstrate our marksmanship skills. 30. Persons Descending by Parachute The law of war does not prohibit firing upon paratroops or other persons who are or appear to be bound upon hostile missions while such persons are descending by parachute. Persons other than those mentioned in the preceding sentence who are descending by parachute from disabled aircraft may not be fired upon. I have been wrong before, but I fail to see the correlation between using a 50 caliber being an illegal action.
  9. That's another thing, the label is completely worn but I had the serial # from the really old data card. Robin Miller said those repairs other than the reline must be done by PD since the damage was so extensive. I will not sell it for jumping purposes. If anyone wanted a sabre 170 they can buy a much newer and safer one than this for about the same as the repairs or just less than its cost.
  10. What to do with a 13.5 year old beat up sabre 170 with unknown jump #'s that needs this done to it: Reline: $185.00; Small surface patch on the right stabilizer x2, left stabilizer x3, B 6x3, B 4, B 1, B 7 x2: 12 @$21.00 each; Small patch on B 8, T 8: $21.00 each; Replace pilot chute attachment: $19.00; Medium patch on B 1, T 1: $31.00 each ;Replace links: $11.40 or slinks $24.95; and a free replacement slider. Obviously I am not paying to have it fixed since it is almost $600 in repair and I have long ago moved on and it is not worth anywhere near that. It is currently labeled as unairworthy until everything but the reline is done by PD since the canopy is fairly messed up from hard openings. The slider was too small by 108.5 square inches, hence the hard openings stressing the canopy and my body - I only could handle jumping it about 20 times, if that before I switched to a Sabre2 170.
  11. how appropriate that phat matt went as pee-wee herman. it's perfect for him.
  12. haha silly me. just goes to show how much sleep i get.
  13. which website is that from? this is the link i have for the usma jump team's site http://www.usma.edu/uscc/dca/clubs/jump/Main.htm and it doesn't list anything for the fall yet.
  14. jumping for a specific event? we have tomorrow off and some are at nationals, so i highly doubt they will be jumping at all. matt
  15. A quick look at the USPA past and current 02-04 Collegiate Champions http://www.uspa.org/competition/collegiate.htm shows that most of all the 1-3 place finishers came from either West Point or the Air Force Academy for accuracy. You are very right in that coached jumps & landing with video and debriefing every time will elevate your skill level quickly.
  16. I am a current West Point Cadet and skydiver at The Ranch. I am not on the school's jump team, but I do know that the USPA grants the team members restricted Pro-ratings until they acquire 500 jumps for the unrestricted Pro-rating. The people that jump into the stadium are usually seniors with around 550-650 jumps.
  17. Thanks. That's typical though of anything you want from the PX or Ranger Joes or elsewhere right? They have every single badge, gizmo, and widget, but not the item you need. Thanks. Matt
  18. Sooner than later would be great. We don't exactly have a clothing and sales at West Point for me to be able to visit. But on that note, it's not an overnight mail issue. We can handle all other details if they have the German Proficiency Badge, Gold, there. I don't need the Schutzenschnur award with the colored braid. These are different. Thanks. Matt
  19. Here is a slightly better illustration of the award. It is about 1.5"x2.5".
  20. Totally different awards, especially when observed up close. I have the one I earned by I'm looking for another as a replacement to the original. Thanks. Matt
  21. I'm having no luck finding a replacement German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, Gold Level. I've looked at a few places and done some searches and all I got was some place charging $14.95 for a certificate. Maybe I was just looking in the wrong places. Since I'm still at West Point, I have to purchase this either mail order or internet. Thanks for any help. Matt
  22. excellent choices. i bought my bose home theater system ,yamaha receiver, and dvd player in 1998 and have never second guessed myself on the purchases. they have given me and many friends countless hours of soothing or rockin' music, let alone the dolby digital BIG sounds of many movies. enjoy.
  23. the commentary about the "Scrabble athletes" always has me rolling during their tournaments i can't spell sometimes
  24. This is what I just pulled off the Mirage webpage about container sizing for the M4. Manufacturer Model Size Canopy Fit Performance Designs PD Reserve 143 Medium Performance Designs PD Reserve 160 Snug
  25. my friend and i both packed sabre2 170s into our new G4 M4s with no real problem. it also will depend on how well you can pack. his canopy was newer, so it was more difficult for him to pack whereas mine had 300 more jumps on it, i had 100 packjobs more, so i could pack easier. once you have more pack jobs under your belt, it will fit easier edited for 300
