Would you like family to skydive

I felt the same way when I was a teen. -
It sounds like velcro that doesn't wear out. Most of the new innovations in the last 10 years seem to be a mad rush to accomodate the freeflyers and swoopers that keep inventing new ways to kill themselves. In days gone by the traditional way to die was because the parachute did not open. Now, we die AFTER the parachute opens.

I am a total hypocrit when it comes to this subject. When I was a teenager I did drugs, had unprotected sex, wrecked cars, and jumped out of airplanes. I have two young boys now and I would be scared shitless if they acted like I did. The oldest is 10 and my baby is 8. Now I know how my parents felt. Payback is a bitch. -
Give me a blow job and make me a sandwich. After she is done packing of course!

Post on the womens only forum just to see if they notice that you are not a woman? It's kind of a scary place really, they are always talking about their feelings and barbie dolls and shit like that.

Two dorks with parachutes

I agree, but you are the one that brought it up.

What about the older Javelins that had an optional RSL? My first two Javelins did not come with an RSL. I recently packed a Javelin with no RSL but I don't think that rig ever had one to begin with.

That sucks! What is the reason for this? I was in Picton less than two years ago and they were still using camera flyers with the tandems. I had a chance to jump with a tandem using a hand cam last spring. I was visiting this small DZ and they used a handcam when no camera flyer was available, just as a back up in case someone wanted a video.(I would have done it but I was on vacation and didn't bring my camera helmet) Anyway, the video was actually better than I expected but still nowhere near as good of a product you would get with a camera flyer. And no stills either. To me the video looked more like someone on a rollercoaster than on a skydive. Also, the TI kept fiddling with the camera all the way to altitude. We were planning on exiting together and on jump run he told the pilot to go around because he was having a problem with the camera so he disconected the student and fixed his problem and then hooked her back up. We burned at least another five more minutes of fuel. After first hand experience I hope this doesn't catch on here in the states. I think the quality of the video is weak, no stills, and the TI has enough responsibility with his student. They just don't need the added distraction of a camera. I would be curious what other TIs feel about this. I have talked to a few that said they simply would not do it. The main concern being the student and not the video. It sounds like it is mandatory in Australia if you want to do tandems.

Back to the original topic.... The Conquest was a GREAT canopy! .....In 1992
-
One belongs to the Department of the Interior One belongs to the Department of Defence Actually, the minority of smoke jumpers work for the Interior. (BLM) The vast majority work for the US Forest Service. The Forest Service is under the department of Agriculture. USDA Just in case you were wondering...

The SR- 71 was not checkerboard (at least mine wasn't) The Conquest was. Maybe the same airfoil but NOT the same construction. You just like to argue?
-
The Conquest and the SR-71 were not the same canopy. I have jumped both. I owned and made over 200 jumps on the SR-71 and it was far superior to the Conquest. The Conquest was a checkerboard pattern and the Sr-71 was just like a sabre with the baffles in the nose.South African design. THat is the reason you could only use rear risers or toggles to steer. If you pulled down both front risers it would totally collapse because the nose would not stay inflated. Both the Conquest and the SR-71 had baffles. The baffles were sewn on to slow down the opening and they were designed to be leading edge "air locks" of the day. If you have never seen a SR-71 it is kind of hard to describe but it was just like having square panels covering the nose with gaps to let air in. My SR-71 was a 135 and it was considered to be the "hot" canopy of the time. I think you are confused. Call Ralph and tell him Peckerhead sent you.
