Ha!!!!! I'd never get away with that where I jump. They sent me an e-mail warning me that I couldn't jump until I could provide proof of repacking, and my rigger is on the DZ staff. Skydiving is for cool people only

Fort Worth is going to be a haul from Skydive Dallas, which is by far the best dropzone in the area. I'd guess around 2.5 hours from downtown Fort Worth. I love Texas, but Fort Worth isn't a place I'd recommend moving to. There's nothing wrong with it...it's just...I dunno. Something about it. It does have a world-class art district and some good restaurants, but those aren't going to fill all your time. The traffic is bad, but then, it's bad everywhere. Summers are hot...but I'm running around in shorts under a clear blue sky in the middle of December here in South Texas. Fort Worth is not too expensive, but it depends on your frame of reference. Check a cost-of-living calculator. Oh, and not all Texans have, or even like guns. Skydiving is for cool people only

For me, it's eggs scrambled with cream cheese, dill, and seafood, like crab or shrimp. Whenever I go to a used bookstore, I check for skydiving stuff. I've found some greatness. My latest find: "The Wild, Wonderful World of PARACHUTES AND PARACHUTING" by Bud Sellick. Hardcover, originally published in 1971, revised 1981. The photo on the cover is a bunch of barely-stable skydivers wearing those big balloon suits in various shades of orange. This is an AWESOME book. It's a treasure trove of skydiving nostalgia. Check out these photo captions: (guys wearing wing suits) "Bat wings are more valuable for showmanship on the ground than gliding through the air." (jumper flaring unevenly at about 15 feet off the ground under giant 5-cell) "The ram-air inflated 'square' canopy has dominated the sport since the early Seventies. Accuracy landing is made into the wind with gentle touchdown. Although for experienced jumpers only, the parachute is much lighter and more reliable than any others. However, it does not settle like a standard parachute and must be 'flown' to the target." This book rocks! And it has eight pages of color! Skydiving is for cool people only

I would really support that. The "real" rigging questions get lost in the crush of "Cobalt opinions?" and "Micron opinions?" posts. It works as is, but it could be a more sharply defined resource. Skydiving is for cool people only

Well, I went for my lasik consultation today. The doctor seemed surprised at my prescription -- one eye has normal vision, and the other is 20/30, which is the goal of some lasik patients. I told her that I loathed wearing glasses with every fiber of my being, though, and then she understood. Anyway, she said that my vision could almost certainly be corrected to where I wouldn't need glasses, but of course she couldn't guarantee it. Cost would be $1,000 plus a $65 pre-op consultation. In my 16 years of wearing glasses, my parents and I have probably spent $2,000 on corrective lenses for me...that I never wear. Despite that, though, my inclination right now is not to get it, simply because of the cost...$1,000 is a lot of jumps. Plus there are other things I'd rather go into debt for right now. I'm glad I went, though...it's good to know one's options. Skydiving is for cool people only
