Uh. My sister, who is deaf and has cerebral palsy, earned a bachelor's degree in business thanks to both her perseverance and those legally required accommodations. They're not crutches; they help some people do things other people take for granted. My sister, while very smart, could not have lip-read and taken notes for 15 hours a week. Let's not lump everyone in the same category. Skydiving is for cool people only

Then do like billvon and some others advise -- set each altitude (besides the flatline, I'd suggest) 500 feet below the point you intend to take the action. For example, if you planned breakoff at 4.5, set it for 4. That means you should have initiated breakoff before you hear it, and if you didn't, you get a) reminded to breakoff and b) a nudge to pay better attention to your altitude. Hi Josh...I'm sorry I drunkenly hurled an empty water bottle at you. And I'm even sorrier you hurled it back. Otherwise, it was nice meeting you. Skydiving is for cool people only

Mmmmm no. I don't think so anyway. http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/pubs/ada.txt Take a look at sections 301 and 302. I think providing printed instructions is more than adaquate. The complainant herself set the precedent when she made tandems with no interpreter. Anyway, though, 16 tandems is a big pile of income for any DZ and maybe they just should have shelled out the dough for the interpreter and avoided this mess. I hate to see any skydiving operation mired in any legal bog. Skydiving is for cool people only

I feel for you, but don't ask questions you're not prepared to hear an answer to that you might not like. Sounds to me that you were fishing for him to say "No way! I'm totally happy with you here forever and I never question a single thing about monogamy!" (The only reason I know this is because I've done it.) Some men are silly; they think if you ask a question it's because you want to know the answer. Skydiving is for cool people only

My sister is profoundly deaf. She has accepted there are certain things she can't do. However, she could certainly skydive if she wanted to. I find it hard to believe that among 16 people there isn't one hearing family member or friend who would be willing to conduct the interpretation, if they felt that was necessary. There was a deaf world record formation skydive set in San Marcos this year. I wonder how they learned. People are too quick to turn to the courts. The last sentence of the article really says a lot to me about this woman's personality. Skydiving is for cool people only

Buy my Jumpsuit or get my A License taken care of? hmmmmmmm
Jessica replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Yeah, c'mon Arthur. That's like wondering if you should buy that living-room suite when you don't even have a house to put it in yet. Jump! Skydiving is for cool people only -
We had some rather extensive discussion about this recently, and I think the opinion tended overwhelmingly toward TRYING TO CLEAR PC IN TOW = BAD. Judge for yourself. "Does she talk in freefall too?" ~ someone in dz.com tent about skydiverchick "I bet I can get my underwear off without taking my shorts off." ~ name withheld to protect parties involved (no, it wasn't me) "Are you the one who wrote that manifesto about me when I got kicked off the boards?" ~ Rhino, upon meeting me, mistaking me for Michele "She looks nothing like her picture." ~ Clay, to other dz.commers, about me "Give her two, they're pierced!" ~ no idea, I think I was pretty drunk "We're going to go have sex in the back seat of his car." ~ me, giving too much information "Stay away from my golf cart! Unless you're going to make it go faster." ~ skydiverchick "It's like when Billy Baldwin first walks onto the dropzone in 'Cutaway' and is so awed by everything going on he almost walks into a prop." ~ me, explaining to FallingMarc what arriving at one's first WFFC was like Skydiving is for cool people only

You mean avoid confusion? Lord help us. Adults aren't going to suddenly learn to write in a way that doesn't offend your sensibilities because you make a post pointing out a very common error. I should know. Skydiving is for cool people only

In a five-person basket, only four jumpers can ride -- the pilot takes up a space, too. Also, the baskets aren't always filled up. On my balloon jump, both hops carried only two jumpers each in a four-person balloon. I'm really not thinking they're making much money off us. Skydiving is for cool people only

The load organizing was top-notch! I eschewed the specialty aircraft for the most part so I could afford to spend more jump tickets in Tent 4 with billvon and his ilk. I learned a LOT. And meeting fellow .commers was very, very cool. I'll be back to WFFC, no question. I had a blast. Skydiving is for cool people only

I don't know who told you the story of what happened, but I wish he hadn't, because you seem compelled to bring it up over and over again when it's been handled by the people involved and it's time to let it die. Also you don't seem to have your facts quite straight. How do you suggest one handle a violent, irrational person? Sing songs? Read poetry? All in all, to me, your interest in Rhino's reinstatement falls under my "Good God, doesn't he have anything better to worry about?" file. Skydiving is for cool people only

I want a skyvan like they had in Cutaway! Where only 8 people at a time ride to altitude and the door is OFF! Screw the aerodynamics! How else will Redline swing his feet over the edge and frighten/impress his minions! Skydiving is for cool people only

@!#%@#^% WELL IT DOES! I'm trying to switch to my "verbal brain" over here and there's all this yelling and banging and crashing right in front of me! It was like being in the dz.com tent! Anyway, as PLFXpert said in the other thread, skydiving is about facing one's fears, so the next time I jump a skyvan I will hop up and down on the door myself. So y'all go fu -- I mean, so there. It's not laziness, it's FEAR! Opening that Skyvan door is as scary as shit! I rode it two or three times last week, and on one of them, Anita and another guy offered to open it. The light came on, and they were hopping up and down on it and couldn't get it open! One side would unlatch but the other was stuck and I was terrified I was going to watch someone fall halfway through that gap and break his or her leg or crack a jaw. Eventually, a third person had to come help with it. Anyway, THAT'S why I don't like it. Personally, I'd rather ride the otter than the Casa, cause even though I love the tailgate it IS pretty slow. And you'll be glad to know that my soreness abated by Wednesday and I packed for myself all day. So there. Skydiving is for cool people only
