  1. What the hell are you talking about? I saw the unmistakable flash of metal as your tongue lolled drunkenly out of your mouth back at Memorial Day. Skydiving is for cool people only
  2. Do it. I dare you. Skydiving is for cool people only
  3. You mean NOW we can pick on Lummy's grammar? Muahahahaha! Skydiving is for cool people only
  4. When I bought my rig two years ago, this is what happened. I found an ad on enclave.com (sorry HH!) that roughly fit my specs. I e-mailed the owner to see if he still had it. He did. I asked my instructors if the gear and price were good. They said yep. So I telephoned the gear's owner, and we arranged for him to ship it directly to my rigger care of the dropzone. The rigger checked it out, I demoed it a few times, my instructors gave me the thumbs up, and I sent the guy a money order. Skydiving is for cool people only
  5. Oh, and don't kill yourself please. At least not until Wednesday of next week; I've already asked for Labor Day weekend off and it's too late to change it. Also I think I can give you a reason to go on. Skydiving is for cool people only
  6. Why don't you guys just skip the flirting and get straight to the sex you obviously want to have with one another? Nice sig, btw. Skydiving is for cool people only
  7. I've met that guy. He's a total skygod. I bet he wouldn't jump with me if I promised him an entire night of sexual favors. Skydiving is for cool people only
  8. 3/0:2:0 Three days until my move/zero boxes packed. Two jumps squeezed in before work yesterday...one solo "sit" (I've got to get some coaching. I may be heading to Waller soon to hit up those obnoxious freeflying freaks), and one four-way gone horribly, horribly wrong. Still fun though. I've never seen someone fall for that long on his back before. Skydiving is for cool people only
  9. More information. Brad was a friend; I'm trying to figure out if I knew Jason. I'm so fucking sad. WHITEWRIGHT, Texas (AP) — Two skydivers killed when their parachutes became intertwined in a twilight jump over Northeast Texas were veteran jumpers with more than 200 jumps each to their credit, officials with their skydiving club said Sunday. Brad Walk of Dallas and Jason Fitzsimmons of Richardson were killed when their parachutes became entangled about 6,000 feet above the ground in the accident Saturday, according to a statement issued by Skydive Dallas. The accident happened about 50 miles northeast of Dallas near the Fannin-Grayson county line. The two jumped from a Cessna Caravan at about 13,500 feet and their chutes appeared to open normally at 11,000 feet, the club statement said. However, as they arranged their equipment, they drifted together and got their shrouds tangled at about 6,000 feet, the club said. Both apparently were killed on impact with the ground, officials said. Neither skydiver appeared to initiate emergency procedures or deploy a reserve parachute, the statement said, adding that it was unknown whether the men were conscious after the entanglement. The statement said neither skydiver appeared to use their reserve chutes. “They were really well-liked in the skydiving community. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and loved ones,” said Joe Rekart, the general manager of the Whitewright-based club. Neighbors and friends who knew Fitzsimmons said skydiving was his main passion. “He was a guy I kind of idolized,” Kevin Lerma, 24, a friend, said in Sunday's online edition of The Dallas Morning News. “There were many people who had passions and didn't follow through, but Jason followed through. He lived life without many regrets.” Walk, an advertising copywriter for Square One and The Richards Group in Dallas, enjoyed skydiving, skiing and flying in helicopters, his father said. 11. EDIT: I found a story. I'm posting this because at this point their families must have been notified, if they're being named. Skydive Dallas will always be my home DZ. Blue skies to these two. One of us....

I'm minding the news wires tonight, and sometimes the New York Times moves these capsule bios of the Sept. 11 victims -- especially now that the anniversary is coming up. Here's one I just came across. c.2002 New York Times News Service LUIS EDUARDO TORRES: Man of Achievements One of the first things immigrants need to know about is money — getting it, spending it, holding onto it. Luis Eduardo Torres had an understanding of all that almost from the moment he landed illegally in Mexico from Colombia in the late 1980s and then managed to walk across the border into the United States. He arrived with little money of his own and hardly any English, but he acquired both and made his way to Wall Street. It didn't matter that he was getting lunch for the traders at the stock exchange, or later putting the numbers on the pre-electronic-age tally board. He was happy. In time Torres became a currency broker, working in succession at several downtown firms until last August when he was laid off. Then, on Sept. 10, Torres, 31, who lived in Manhattan, began a new job as a senior broker at Cantor Fitzgerald. “Eddie always appreciated things a lot more, having come from nothing,” said Michael A. McLachlan, a broker who had worked with Torres at Tullette and Tokyo Liberty. Torres bought an expensive bicycle and rode it hard. He hiked. And he sky-dived, the legacy of a brief stint as a paratrooper in the Colombian military. His wife, Alissa, thinks she saw him in a photograph of the burning towers, standing at an open window, looking out over the rushing air as though ready to sky-dive from a plane. “If anyone could have calmly figured out how to get out of the towers from up high,” she said, “it would have been him.” Skydiving is for cool people only
  14. Even the word "cuts" is not good in an airport. I'd only explain that far if pressed. It "opens" the reserve. Skydiving is for cool people only
  15. If I'd known he had THOSE qualifications I'd have hired him myself! Just kidding. Hehe. Yeah, what's the job? Spill! Skydiving is for cool people only
  16. It was a 1985 Toyota Corolla, champagne and brown colored (sounds gross but was really pretty), sun roof, power locks and tape deck. It had 100,000 miles on it when my parents bought it for $2,000. God, I loved that car. I used to have a 20-minute commute to and from high school, and I spent it tooling around the farm-to-market roads in that cute little thing. Skydiving is for cool people only
  17. But on a happier note, you've brought Triumph the Comic Dog into things. Perhaps Triumph is floating in the ether; last night I was IMing the phrase "...FOR ME TO POOP ON!" incessantly. Skydiving is for cool people only
  18. Eh, blow it off, cause you're coming to the dz NEXT weekend, remember? Skydiving is for cool people only
  19. Yeah. In English, only the second-person (you) form of imperatives can drop the pronoun. For the first-person plural, you need it. (As in "Let's go.") In French, you can always drop the pronoun. Allons (let's go), allez (y'all go, or you go), etc. God, I'm flashing back to elementary school grammar. Bottom line, any two-letter verb could be the shortest sentence in the English language. Skydiving is for cool people only
  20. I'm not embarassed by anything I've listened to. In fact, I REALLY wish I still had my old Huey Lewis and the News albums. And I thought Vanilla Ice's album was kind of catchy! All right stop Collaborate and listen! Ice is back with my brand new invention! Something something...la la ice ice baby Skydiving is for cool people only
  21. Yes...I don't think they run the tunnel for less than around half an hour at a time. It's too expensive to keep shutting it down and turning it back on for someone who wants 5 minutes. If you pay for 60 minutes of tunnel time, you'll be flying for 60 minutes. But you'll be watching other people in between your minutes. Which is good, because if you were in there for a straight hour you'd be screaming to get out and trying to bang your now-useless arms on the control booth glass. It'll take a while to use up an hour. Skydiving is for cool people only
  22. Ummmm yeah, it's really easy. *looking around uneasily* Just so I won't be a post whore, I'll add what I think about the whole R-dub vs. FF thing.... Some freefliers I encounter seem to want to make it VERY CLEAR that they are COOL, not SQUARE, and therefore they ONLY FREEFLY. That annoys me. I do things better when I have some rules to work with. Dock here, Jess; grab here, Jess; turn here, Jess...and fly your ass off and have a good time, while you're at it, Jess. That doesn't mean I don't desperately want to be a good freeflier too, though. I do. I want to eat up every bit of this sport with a spoon. And I work at it. Every breakthough I make comes because I've busted my ass to learn it. This shit does not come easy to me. So I get pissy when someone dismisses RW as "easy" or "too uptight" or whatever. And I also get pissy when people seem eager to encourage the cleaving between the two disciplines. The thinking seems to be, "If I make fun of RW, and promote the idea that it's nerdy, then freeflying seems even cooler!" But maybe I'm just grumpy. Anyway, MOST of the skydivers I've met are super cool, flat or funky. Skydiving is for cool people only
