    Diving question

That's ok. I know how hard it is. Someone once asked me to explain to him how to do a front sommersault. I couldn't explain that to him, while front sommersaulting is pretty easy for me now. Well, we don't have any cute female lifeguards at our pool. When I actually asked the male lifeguard if I could wear a suit, he was quite rude to me. Wish I wasn't so shy anyway... Thanks anyway for the help Thijs

    Diving question

It is mainly landing my back. With slaping I mean incompleting a sommersault, or overrotating a sommersault unintentionally and hitting the water in a (near) flat position (on back or chest, mainly back). I don't have a diving coach unfortunatly. Video is going to be difficult. I mainly train alone and I'm not willing to just place my camera in the pool where everybody just can take it away (or where it can get wet). Can you explain this a bit more, I don't really understand what you mean. The water isn't really stable when I jump (because there are also other people in the pool). And taking a sprinklers in a public pool hmm, , they won't even let me wear a scuba diving or surfing suit Thanks Thijs
  7. Hi, watching Continuum from Triax (great video btw , and Continuum II also) I saw two people jumping with pretty strange containers on their back. I have added a picture of that (sorry, had to take it with my digital camera because I could figure out to make a still grab from the DVD). Can anyone explain what that is? Thanks Thijs

    Diving question

I do a lot of diving at my local pool during the public hours (we don't have a diving club here). Unfortunalty, sometimes, actually quiet a few times) I enter the water in a pretty bad position which can cause extreme pains to the skin (feeling like it is burning). Is there a way to reduce this pain and the bad effects to your skin? (other than the obvious 'don't fall bad'). Thanks Thijs
  10. Hi Jaap, I went to the pool today and I wonder how you can train exits for basejumping in the pool. As far as I know, the uptimal exit position is about 45 degrees with the ground (is this correct?). If you do this in the pool and mix it with jumping far out, the landing might hurt pretty bad (I know all about it ). So how do you train in the pool? Thanks! Thijs

Congrats to you and to Julien too.
  12. If you are going to do a jump with 150 jumpers it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for the NPS to catch all the jumpers involved (unless you all give yourself in offcouse). If they know nothing about date and location beforehand and can only catch a small number of jumpers (let's say 10), the NPS is going to be a 'bit' frustrated and pissed. I fear that these ten jumpers will get the full load (maximum charge) and will probably get a very severe sentence (money, jail). So, I think the question ain't if you are willing to get busted, but if you are willing to spend some time in jail, possibly for nothing. I think you need to change the mind of the general population towards basejumping, instead of trying to change the mind of the NPS dirrectly. To them it is normal that you get busted, because afterall, for them basejumping is something crazy, reckless and pointless. How do you think the general population would think if basejumping became legal? If you change the mind of the general public, you change the mind of the politicians, and will eventually change the mind of the NPS. I know it is a long way, and succes is defineltly not guarenteed. Anyway, just imagine, 150 jumpers together in a court room (is there a court room in the US large enough? ) I think this would to more then a protest jump were everybody escapes. (this would just piss the NPS even more). In the end, I think a protest jump on that scale will do more harm then good. Thijs

  15. I've never used them as an adult an probably never will, simply because I don't see how they can help. I went to a lot of mental health people when I was a kid. I suffered from depression, suicidal thaugths, adaptation problems at school and in society in general. When I was a 8 year old kid I was thinking more like an adult then a kid, and this caused more then one traumatic experience. I feeled that how many professioals I visited, none of them helped, if they did anything it was only making matters even worse. Over time I learned to deal with my mental problems myself. I very, very rarely talk to someone about it, and if I do it are mostly my parents, simply because they more or less understand my background. Talking to a complete stranger about it would seem very stupid to me, but on numerous occassions people adviced me to go and so some pro's. The scares of those experiences are pretty deep. I live with up's and down's, but I can manage

    F1 vs. Human

Sorry if it was already said here. I thaught the following. You will be attracted to the race car for the time the car is over you. This is a result of the law of Bernouli, which states that the faster a fluid or gas moves, the lower the pressure gets (yes, I know it sounds like it should be the other way around, but it is like this). So, because the race car moves so fast, you should be attracted to it. But, because the car moves at such a high speed it will be over you before before you will even notice the attracting. You can feel this attraction force when you drive on the freeway. When you pass a heavy truck you can feel suddenly attracted to it. This is the same effect. So, I think not much will happen, you'll probaby only shit in your pants . I think that also the shape of the pit it important. If it is only two meters long where you just fit it, it will create another effect then it is very long and the cars drives already a long time over it. The car will probalby not get lifted up, because a low pressure area will be in the pit. So it should stick to the ground. Well, you will probably need to incalculate they aerodynamic aspects of the car, but I know nothing about that. I'm a student in physics, but well, I failed all my exams but one, so... Thijs
