  1. It's D5 on the SAC jukebox Farf. Thought you might like to hear it again. http://youtu.be/oF-DMhpJOAI That oughta get your manly military pilot juices flowing. One Buff could flatten Moscow and you would have been the guy to do it if Le May's first choice, Duane Weber, got shot down en route. The Kremlin celebrated your retirement, but you had no way of knowing that and are too modest to brag if you did know. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 2. Jo wrote Klaxon horn sounding. Loudspeaker blares: "Tease Alert Tease Alert. This is not a drill". It must be tough being 007 Jo. So many secrets to protect. Never reveal the whole story. It would be akin to treason. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  3. Jo wrote Wrong Jo. I am interested in aviation history. I spent days in the Boeing archives researching the development history of one of my favorite planes, the Boeing 377. It was developed in the late 40s. Even way back then Boeing, not suppliers, did all the design for interior and exterior finishes. Once they knew what they wanted they published specs for suppliers who wanted to bid. I reviewed reams of materials just dealing with interior fabric color and weave density specs. You want so desperately to prove that Duane was DBC that you spin any connection into allegedly probative evidence. Duane knew the terrain in the flight path area so he must be the jumper. Duane knew something about paragliders you watched so he must have been a jumper. Duane had some odd piece of hardware that you sold at a garage sale so it must have come from a parachute rig. Duane knew an airplane mechanic so he must be a jumper. The list is endless and at times is absurd, like the parachuting pipeline welders. Obsessive beliefs. Read about it. I think you may suffer from it to some degree. In your case it's pretty harmless but it actually impedes your ability to rationally investigate Duane as a Norjack suspect. You sort evidence in a very biased manner. Carry on. I still enjoy your presence here and wish you the best. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 4. Farf wrote We sure can Farf. Can you imagine a smarter long range plan for the crime of the century? Duane mimicked an incompetent petty thief and con artist for decades in preparation for Norjack. With his record he could walk into an FBI office and confess to being DBC. He'd be asked to leave and not bother them again. Absolutely brilliant. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  5. Who is to say DBC didn't have an inertial stability augmentation device? Makes as much sense as a back brace designed to vibrate upon receiving VOR radial signals. How about some support for a Snowmman pardon or at least parole? He doesn't get distracted like we do. It would be good for the forum. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 6. farf wrote Cool! I once bought some modules labeled gyro at a DOD surplus auction. They were hermetically sealed square module cans with TIGHTLY wound powerful clocksprings in them for driving a rotating mass. A fuseable link allowed the spring to be released and the gyro rotor spun up. A short blast of 28 VDC aircraft power would melt the link and the gyro would spin up very very quickly and remain spinning fast for quite a few minutes. Gyro position outputs were taken from a potentiometer and output through a plug. Seems a lot simpler than a gas drive. I later was told that these were used in air to air missiles. They could stand ready for duty for centuries given their simplicity and dry nitrogen gas filled can environment. I heard you like spinners Farf, so I knew this would be of interest. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  7. Quade wrote If bans for misbehavior can be "pretty long" don't you think Snowmman's ban has reached that point? How about letting him back Quade. He can help steer this drifting forum back into DBC related stuff. We need more about Ted Braden and Sheridan Peterson to offset the Duane Weber and Bob Knoss subject matter dominance. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 8. Amazon wrote Been there Amazon. Got to do a test jump for SSK/CYPRES. I was outfitted with a black box full of pressure sensors and recorders. Exited from a firewalled C 130, est 270 knots. I now know what its like to be put through a spin and tuble cycle in a washing machine. Whew. They wanted data to see if a Cypres could be tricked into firing high in a violent spin tumble. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  9. Felix exceeded the speed of light. MSNBC says so, so it must be true. The Lorentz contractions in that spin must have been awful. I know Georger will appreciate that joke. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/15/msnbc-felix-baumgartner-speed-of-light_n_1967878.html?ncid=wsc-huffpost-cards-headline 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 11. Jo, Boeing had in the 1950s and still has paint specs which suppliers must meet. Access to system schematics by paint suppliers wasn't and isn't needed. 12. Jo wrote Jo, During the time that Boeing was developing the 727 they had a well established system to keep proprietary and classified info from being disclosed outside the company. It wasn't casual or informal. The commercial airliner business was and still is highly competitive. 14. Farf wrote Sign me up Farf. Bring on the Ballerinas. Are they Russian? An easier stab augmentation could have been employed: a pre spun gyro mass strapped to Felix in an orientation that would buck a flat spin. The latest yachts are now using internal rotating masses to counter roll rather than the older external gyro controlled anti roll fins. Less drag, better fuel economy. http://www.seakeeper.com/ Sheridan Peterson has been active in 2012 on Google Plus. It's his usual anti govt anti war stuff. You gotta love an old lefty skydiver. Somehow this ranting has more cred coming from Sheridan an ex Marine, ex USFS smoke jumper, and Nam advisor than if it came from an old hippie. Sheridan, if you are reading this just say hello. I am not FBI or CIA, just an old jumper with politics similar to yours who'd like to meet you and chat. I pass through Windsor now and then and would be honored to buy you a meal, some beer and listen to your thoughts on a variety of subjects that I think we share an interest in. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 15. Not too many US Presidents really care deeply about domestic poverty. Lyndon Johnson did. He was corrupt and a power freak, but he really did a lot for very poor people. I saw some of the results first hand. I was a volunteer in a federal anti poverty program in the late 60s, posted to an impovershed place in the deep South. I saw some miserable lives changed and uplifted by some LBJ initiatives such as Head Start and Emergency food and Medical programs that were part of his War on Poverty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Poverty Jimmy Carter has worked a lot for Habitat for Humanity, .... real work, not just opportunistic photo op posing stuff. US hard core poverty just isnt a big deal to most US Presidents. The severely disenfranchised dont vote and, of course, dont make campaign contributions. I find soup kitchen "photo op drive bys" such as Paul Ryan's offensive. Remember when EST guru Werner Erhard became a poverty pimp and raised money in the name of ending hunger... money that never made it out of his cult organizartion? Hunger and poverty pluck our heart strings. Politicians and unscrupulous fund raisers know that and capitalize on it. Too few actually do something to help fix it. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  16. Correct. I have the basic 727 tech manuals (flight, systems, etc) and none disclose that the air stairs can be deployed in flight. I am an engineer and do know how read schematics. I very much doubt if Duane could read electrical or hydraulic schematics. Even if he could, the 727 schematics and system diagrams do not answer the critical question about flying with the stairs down. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 17. Of course, the tease, the promise, the eternal wait for fulfillment=Jo's very predictable MO. Let us know when you have proof Jo... and it better be more substantive than a ten year old kid seeing something at an airshow and an older sibling who had a Boeing connection. BTW, Boeing's US Army connection was helicopters not fixed wing jet aircraft. The Air National Guard operated C 22s (Boeing 727-100 types) but ANG is Air Force, not Army. Turning Duane from a zero to hero is a nearly impossible task even for someone as determined as you. Duane is just a patheticly underqualified candidate. Still, I do admire your determination and think you are sincere in your beliefs. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  18. Jo wrote Familairity with the NW doesnt prove anything, but if you can prove that Duane had parachuting knowledge and experience then you will find a brand new attitude in yours truly. Gievn Duane's bungling criminal career (more than two dozen arrests) I cant imagine that he could plan and execute the crime of the century and remain unidentified and free. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 19. Farflung wrote: Gotta love Red Bull. Space X too. Private bucks, huge risks, huge accomplishments. Felix is da man. I hope this widely viewed event will drive newbies to the DZs, just like the movie Point Break did. Jumped on Saturday. There was a friggin McLaren!!! parked in the DZ lot. You just don't see those kinds of rides at DZs. I think they cost over $300,000. Rumor was that some Facebook guy was there for a tandem. I hope someone gets to interview Sheridan Peterson soon. He probably won't be alive much longer due to his age and progressing cancer. I have no proof that he is DBC and if he were he'd be unlikely to confess it. I'd just like to hear what he has to say about Norjack and jumping in 1971. Who knew back then that a 727 could be jumped? I still think Cooper knew that it could. The pilots and flight engineer didn't know, neither did NWA ops. They had to contact Boeing. The 727 mfr confirmed that safe flight with the stairs deployed was possible, having been proven in earlier flight tests. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 21. Amazon wrote: Yeah, I know that from first hand experience Amazon. In 1973 I jumped from a Cessna 180 that crashed and killed the pilot about 2 minutes after I exited. Nothing was wrong when I left the aircraft. I thought somehow the pilot might have survived and could be saved, so I threw my rig off and ran to the wreckage. I was the first to reach the the crash scene and what I saw was just awful. I still have nightmares about it decades later. One minute a friend is alive and well and a second later he is literally torn apart. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3010437 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 23. MB wrote Correct. I'd take Sheridan's case pro bono...one old jumper helping another. It's a nice fantasy but it won't happen. Sheridan thinks I am FBI/CIA which is kinda ironic. I contribute regularly to an organization that sues the FBI and CIA to stop abuses and unconstitutional actions. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 24. Mr Shutter wrote Care to explain the MILF acronym? I am far from being PC but don't you think publicly rating Marla's desirability as someone you'd like to fk is a bit disrespectful to her? She was pretty brave to present at the symposium, kinda like walking into the lions den. She didn't have handlers and didn't dodge questions. Maybe she has misinterpreted childhood memories and maybe she sought media attention, but I thought she handled herself pretty well. Sure she was attractive but she wasn't using sex to sell her story. Do I think LD was DBC? Nope. Do I think Marla was a cynical liar seeking to profit from a fake story? Nope. Flame away. I have a Nomex jumpsuit. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  25. Smokin99 wrote Sheridan was super qualified for the Norjack jump, but hard evidence linking him to the crime (so far) is lacking. The FBI thought he was an intersting suspect and contacted him several times. Only DNA got them off his back. Sheridan is very old and seriously ill. I sure wish someone like Bruce could interview him while he is still alive. He's a bit paranoid. I bought him a bountiful holiday basket (delivered by Bruce to friends of Sheridan) for which he was initially pleased and grateful, but soon he was calling me (in posts) FBI-CIA and it went downhill from there. I'm an old jumper and so is he. I'd just like to trade some yarns with him and see what he thinks about Norjack. Of course he'd never admit to being DBC. I'd just like to hear what he has to say. I still see a lot of Norjack parallels, subtle ones and glaring ones, in his novel, The Idiots Frightful Laughter. That doesn't make him DBC though. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver.
