Swallows in that cave are nouns not verbs. Sorry to disappoint ya Farflung. At least I saved you a pointless trip to Mexico. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

The softer side of Quade revealed. Maybe I should re-argue my case for a Snowmman pardon before he recovers. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Good old Volvo 240s with B 20 series engines. Water pump change out is an hour job, less if you are really good and you can get euro made high quality pumps for well under $50. Timing belt breaks, engine stops and NOTHING is harmed. You can do all four brakes (new rotors and new pads) in an hour and 3/4. The only b***h of a job is a heater core replacement, been there, wasted an entire blue sky weekend. A mechanic friend is making really good money underbidding Audi dealers on late model water pump replacements. They want thousands!!!! Apparently you basically have to take the front end of the car body off to do it. My old Volvo 240 beater/DZ/fishing car just wont die. Still passes smog test with very low emisions with well over 300,000 miles on an unrebuilt B 27 engine. If Cooper had an escape car/accomplice, wonder what DBC's ride was? I liked Musika's drawing of DB Cooper riding away in a 68 Mustang convertible with 20s flying out the back. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Farflung wrote: Quade wrote: So what adorns the other DB Cooper forum poster's cars? I only have a sunbeaten Alti 2 altimeter sticker on the lower corner of my rear window, one of the tiny ones that are the size of a quarter and depict a jump altimeter face. It says nothing about skydiving. It means nothing to Whuffos. Two cool things have happened though. Once I came back to my car in a supermarket parking lot and BLUE SKIES was written in lipstick across the back window next to a kiss imprint. Another time a cop pulled me over and his first question was: "where do you jump." I told him (a local DZ) and he asked me if I knew Jerry Barnes. I said no. He said "good answer, neither do I." He asked if I knew Merle. I said "yes and I jumped with him back before he got injured". "Slow it down a bit" he said and walked back to his car without writing me a ticket. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Farflung: man, you really have a flair for writing and a dry (dare I say twisted?) sense of humor. How about writing a thinly veiled sarcastic article about our sport for Blue Skies, an edgy new skydiving magazine? Most jumpers are terrible writers (with a few notable exceptions). We need some fresh stuff. It can only come from the outside. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

So Duane posessed the MLK assasin's rifle at one time, had RFK's tie at another time, and was "connected" to the JFK killing through an aquaintance??? Duane sure got around. Did he know Sara Jane Moore? Nahhh, she was too much of an amateur. Duane only hung with the pros. Was he close to Carlos Marcelos? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. I disagree Jo. Having a guy like this on the bench would be good. Lawyers just advocate, judges DECIDE. Lawyers dont really have much power, they just qualify to fight in the arena. Judges call the winner. Juries decide disputed facts, but judges decide the LAW. If you look at the stats, prosecutors are often favored over defense lawyers when appointments to judgeships are made. I am assuming Dyer isnt a preosecutor. A lawyer who is compassionate, street and prison smart, and who has seen the seamier side of life first hand would be a breath of fresh air as a judge. Imprisoning non violent drug users is crazy. It doesn't accomplish much and costs a fortune. Thats how I see it. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Congrats on 4000 jumps Skywhuffo! Aren't those HAHO jumps a refreshing change from burning up altitude at 120 mph plus? I've been jumping since 1968 and until recently had never pulled high. I like cruising around under canopy. Georger a jumper? What other secrets is the modest Dr. concealing? Well in my book you are a skydiver Georger. Wish you'd tell us about your early jumps. I really wish Jo would use Occams razor. She usually does exactly the opposite. One good reason there has been no mafia involvement in skydiving is that there is no money in it. DZOs don't drive Ferraris or live in mansions, except for a few who got into drug running. Georger, I will be operating QRP on Field Day from the northern coast of CA on Sat afternoon, mostly 40M. You? We haven't heard from Orange in a while. How's life in SA during the World Cup? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Way to go SLUGGO!!! We are proud of ya man. Keep the lizards out of the containment vessels, please. We dont need Godzilla messing with our efforts to cap that BP gusher. On the other hand perhaps a trained mutant sea monster could be of great utility in mitigating that disaster. I think the hard part would be the "training" but hey, that's your specialty isn't it? As for the security screening, youd better hope that they dont read this forum. You are associating with people who have close connections to the assassination of JFK, RFK and MLK, not to mention DBC. Thanks for giving Robert99 some space on your site. I like his approach. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Thanks Robert. I like hard core aircraft and parachuting stuff more than speculative conspiracy theory posts, so bring it on. Might be a long time before we get to jump from a big jet again. The FAA rules have calendar time limits on some engines as well as operating hours. Last I heard, the Perris DC 9 is up against a bureaucratic brick wall with a low operating hours engine that is timed out on years. It is a major six figure problem unless someone can get a waiver or exemption. Any A&Ps out there who can explain more about the rules? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. A CB walkie talkie could talk to a car CB, no problem at all Jo. I will scan the Parachutist articles, pt 1 and 2. Should be able to get it done next week. Nothing new in the articles, even a few possible minor factual errors, but good reading and really great graphics. Experienced jumpers who jumped the 727 and DC 9 at WFFC were interviewed and most were surprised at the unexpected violence of their first jet exit. Once they knew what to expect, no big deal on subsequent jumps. One went out at 170 kts. ' As for Georger's Q about if Cooper died on the jump why no body was found I'd guess a river impact with a packed chute might possibly explain it. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Cooper probably died on the jump, but if he didnt, how could he have walked out without being noticed? That has always made me wonder about an accomplice on the ground. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

My strong opinion is that a 1 watt $39.95 CB walkie talkie of 1971 vintage would have given Cooper about 20 miles of coverage radius aloft if he deployed right after leaving the 727. Even if he didn't use it under canopy, if his accomplice was on a hilltop within Coopers line of sight (ie Cooper could see the peak) he'd have had no problem communicating for at least fifteen miles. In 1960s I made regular TEN MILE line of sight comms with 100 mw (one tenth of a watt) CB walkie talkies (not the toy kind, but $30 Lafayette sets with superhet receivers) between hilltop and flatlands positions that had line of sight. No big deal. Rain doesn't really have a big effect on CB frequencies. I did comms in the rain and didnt notice much difference. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Hey, don't forget Area 51, Roswell and crop circles. At times, Bruce has hinted about sort of Manchurian Candidate aspect to the Cooper case, with perhaps more than 1 programmed "Cooper". Let's bring it on, all of it. Aliens, mind control, black ops, the whole frigging deal. Made a radio jump last Saturday. Was able to contact stations over 65 miles away with a very low power radio from 7500 ft under canopy. No problem at all. Just sayin... 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Farflung is da MAN! What a great post. I am pondering... Trying to choose between a C54G, C97G or a C123K. The 97 only has 5600 hours TT and mid time engines and props. The planes are pretty cheap compared to what the USAF paid new. Your recommendation? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

What Quade said. Remember that little girl who died flying cross country with her instructor observing. They were under time pressure, got into really bad WX and crashed. Kids cant fly planes or sail transoceanic boats without adult money. Thee are always adults funding and pushing these record attempts. Let kids just be kids rather than mini adults. If they cant pay for it with their allowance, they probably shouldn't be doing it. Really glad Abby is safe. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. It might get bid up. Hope you get it! Would you pretty it up or just fly the hell out of it as is? That explains those odd perforations in the Tena Bar money. 377 Does anyone have a picture or other description of the perforations or other marks that were on the Tena Bar money? Robert There are lot of Tena Bar money photos posted way back on he forum. Look at Snowmman's posts. Go for it Jerry. Fly Shelly to a really romantic getaway vacation spot and she'll forget about all the money that plane burns just sitting at the airport. With a good moving map aviation GPS you wont be flying into any mountains and you'll always find the airport. You live in a beautiful area. Why not see it from the air whenever you feel like it? It's safer than jumping if you watch your weather and make conservative go no go decsions. How many hours on the engine and airframe? What is the panel like, any modern stuff at all for that low price? Any damage history? Do a compression AND leak down test so you dont get stuck with a weak engine. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

New gear, did I make a good choice? (your opinion)
377 replied to quadrevium's topic in Gear and Rigging
Good choice on all the nylon stuff, but I'd have gone with a Cypres 2. I am an electrical engineer. I've taked shop with some of the Airtec and SSK folks. It's not that Vigils are bad, I just think Airtec/Cypres has more experience in sport AAD hardware/software design than some of the newcomers do. I prefer tried and true on AADs. 377 . 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968. -
Flys a Bonanza at 84, wow! As I recall he flew P 51s and P 40s in the military so he is certainly a seasoned aviator. What's your excuse for hanging up skydiving Jerry at your young age?
