bad proxy setup?

I believe it's entirely possible, they just didn't have the information you expected. I think a simple informational email mentioning this other dropzone that's closer in relation to the locator would have sufficed rather than attacking the locator on the forum like this. Not to mention you wouldn't have a bunch of people yelling at you about it right now!

I live in a town that is completely surrounded by oil factories. Not surrounded like there are some on the perimeter a couple miles away. As in most of the square footage of this town is factories with a few houses. Sometimes I walk outside and it smells like it's raining gasoline and it's not raining!

I wouldn't think anything of the instructor going for the gear. I know what I need to do and I know I'm supposed to land at the DZ if possible. That gear's expensive and as long as it takes me to get to the ground, there's always a ton of people down there to help me out if I need it already.

As one of those evil smokers, I sort of understand the concern, but if they're so concerned over the harmful effects to the environment and/or themselves, why don't they stop using their car? stop heating their house? etc, etc, etc. The natural air around where I live is much more harrmful than what I'm exhaling.

I would have to go with either skiing or surfing.

At a week's salary for a cross country phone call, it's no wonder.

Mine were just ones I like to listen to on the way to the dropzone. Gets me courageous enough to get on the plane. Once I'm there, the fear of peer pressure gets me to jump out, hehe.

Great so we can look forward to another frivolous lawsuit that drives the price of our cheeseburgers up.

I don't have any pets, but I always buy for my sister's two cats.

Haven't run in a long long time, but if I did it would probably be the same list from the "skydiving songs" thread.

So I've been at work for about 2 hours so far and my boss comes over to me and says I have a meeting, but he didn't send the invite cause he thought I had off today. Confused, I go to the calendar and realise I do have off today! Not wasting it now, so I guess I'm stuck here.

I'll never understand why people try to outrun the police when they're being chased. I find it rather difficult to believe there could be any hope of getting away once they're on your tail, especially in a tractor trailer!

Not really a disagree, but a comment on the 2nd post... I would have to somewhat agree on the amount of good the concern can provider. It's nice to know someone cares, but us students are drilled over and over again on the safety and I would expect, most like me, probably spend lots of time reading up on that stuff including canopy control, but I suspect that as time goes on, some, no matter how many times you tell them, will beging to forget safety, perhaps because they never experienced an issue that required that information, or maybe they just think they can just feel the situation out when it happens. If I ever do that, feel free to beat me over the head with a 6-pack a few times, but I also suspect that most of the people that decide to continue in the sport well past student status probably do try to stay on top of safety procedures. At least the people on this forum seem to!

Yep that threw me for a loop when I first realized that those other "laws" are really just theories until disproven.

Speaking of first... I haven't bought the beer yet and my one concern is... I never know which instructor I'll get. What are the chances that the mystery instructor won't like whatever beer I bring..

I'm too much of a chicken to ride the plane back down. Having friends jumping with you really makes it seem completely unbearable to consider them watching you get out of the plane on the ground, hehe.

This thread's probably pretty much dead by now, but reading the first post made me think of myself... and I'm 3 jumps behind the one mentioned. They taught us to only have our head outside the otter in ground school and I was a bit weird about that as well. So when I went to actually do the jump the instructor told me not to do it that way. That was relieving until he told me he wanted all but my right hand and foot outside the aircraft. So now I'm thinking, are you crazy?! Anyway once I got into the doorway, I was concentrating on that exit so much, I forgot I was supposed to be worried and the exit went nice and smooth. Also on the ground they told us to relax and now try to "brace" our fall with our hands, so naturally during freefall when I fell out of balance, I went ahead and stuch my hands out and made it worse. The instructor told me to relax, I did, and it fixed everything. I was also repeatedly told to extend my legs, and just like you, I kept thinking... what's he talking about, they're already all the way out! Well I was down at the DZ yesterday on yet another too windy for AFP jumpers day and I mentioned that too an instructor who provided an at home exercise... just in position pretty much, but with the feet against the wall to practice extending them with some resistance. He said it's quite natural to feel like they're all the way out already and you just need to get used to how they feel when you're up there. That's why instructors are great! They let you know when your legs are in good freefall position (remember the feeling), when they're fulling extended (probably the only time you'll ever see them tell u to bring your legs in), and when you're moving backwards (the constant nagging to extend your legs). Now I've only done 1 AFF jump so far, but I would expect that I should be able to feel the difference by the time I finish and I also expect to fail a lesson or two. It happens, but think of it this way. Rather than looking at it as I'm not good enough for this, think of it as... sweet I get another jump in with an instructor right there. While I don't particularly like being strapped to an instructor, it's rather comforting that they're there during the AFP stuff, even though I if they weren't right in front of me, I'd forget they were there, hehe.

I keep getting stuff from this one card company daily for the past 6 months or so and now they're starting to disguise what the mail really is (but I know their address now so I can spot them immediately). Anyway, if I threw it away and never responded to the first couple hundred mailings, what makes them think tricking me into opening it will make me want to do it now?! My favorite of course is when I repeatedly get pre-approved ads for a card that I already have or even constantly get told that I'm pre-approved for say... a Discover card and then try to get it and they tell me I'm not qualified. wtf?!

I've only been to one and only found 2 in my area. One is 30 mins away and the other, the one I chose (Crosskeys) is about 45min-1hour away. I find it's worth it, but it would still be nice to buy a house within 5 mins of it.

Like bungee jumping, I don't think that's something I had the guts to try.

I can't do that. I'm proud of those 4 jumps! hehe.

SDC? I know I remember seeing Crosskeys (could that be SDC?) having one the 11th, but I'll be in the southern Carribean until the 12th 8(
