Lol I love it. That definitely would have been me a few years ago. "Do or DIE!!!" type of attitude. However, I like the idea of retiring with 50% of my pay for the rest of my life in 20 years. Guess what that means for me? I can be a skydiving bum everyday for the rest of my life after retirement. Whoo hoo! What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

Lol so true. damm, you're good and you're so right. You've hit the nail on the head with this one. I guess it's a done deal. Skydiving can wait for me cuz it's my bee-yotch! I've always dreamed about serving the public as a police officer. I will not screw up this opportunity! You're welcome in advance. Watch me get injured at the police accademy. lol What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

You're right. However, the confident part in me, which took 4 Scott Miller canopy classes and a Flight 1 canopy course thinks that I will be fine and I won't get injured. However, the other side of knows that anything can happen to me, no matter how proficient I am under canopy. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

Yup, especially skydiving. Any recreational injuries would subject me to being terminated. Why? because bad cops back in the day would injure themselves and retire with 75% of their pay for the rest of their lives. Besides, we're supposed to be a tough bunch. If we get injured during probation means we don't deserve to make the cut. There are about 800-1200 police accademy graduates every 6 months. We're just a number. The good part is, it's only a 2 year layoff. 2 years might come and go but I will surely miss the sport. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

Thanks. That's where I hope to end up in after I work the streets for a couple of years. I've been a network engineer now for A & E Television Networks for 7 years now. Here's the problem. They graduate about 800-1200 candidates every 6 months. We're pretty expendable, I guess. If I get busted up from a car accident or any other accident that doesn't involve recreational sports, then yes I will be put on sick leave or maybe desk duty. I figure it's only 2 years so it's not much to sacrifice. I just hate having to give up the sport. Especially now, since I just started doing faster and accurate landing approaches. I'll have to start all over again. Probation is only for two years. After that, I can pull a muscle from wanking it and still have my job. And as long as it doesn't involve recreational sports, I should still be employed if I get hurt from anything else. I guess you could say they're protecting their own interests. In the NYPD if you get injured, after probation, they're forced to retire you with 75% of your current pay for the rest of your life. Which is why I can understand why they're being like that. Bad cops back in the day used to injure themselves just to collect 75% pay for the rest of their lives. With what ever you do: Good Luck! Thanks man. I'm still torn between the two decisions but I think I'm leaning more towards calling it quits for two years first. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

yeah, I'll probably go that route. After all, two years isn't that long. I have the rest of my life to continue skydiving, provided I don't get shot, stabbed, clubbed to death, or get in fatal police car chase accident. I'm swapping one extreme and dangerous thing for another.Maybe I should stick to being a network engineer. NOT! Sounds like a plan! Thanks bud. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

I'm going to the Police Accademy in July. I'll be on probation for two years. If for any reason, I am injured during the two year probation period, I will be fired without pay or disability and I won't get a chance to get my job back. I thought about sticking around the sport, being selective as to who I jump with, maybe do a few hop and pops a month and what not but then I thought, why risk it? I'll only be out of the sport for two years and I can pick it back up again afterwards. The confident part of me says "stick it out and be positive, I won't get injured!" The other half is saying "I've waited for this opportunity to protect and serve most of my life and to not take a chance in risking the 20 year retirement plan and other opportunities with the NYPD!" What do you guys think? What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

This is the most rational approach to the situation. I totally agree with this. I used to room with 4 other people in one house. We all divided sections in the fridge and cupboards. We knew who's stuff belonged to who. And if we wanted to use it, we would replace it. This is your best way to go. It's being level headed and it will prevent any nasty situations from arising. This proved to be successful for 8 years. The only thing I had to worry about is to have them clean up the ONE litter box everyday for their 4 cats. This is funny. I tried looking for an older post for girsl gone wild in baghdad but I couldn't find one so here it is: Girls Gone Wild in Baghdad What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

I'm a network engineer. Too many bells and whistles equals impracticality. You have the basic needs. Do you really want to spend a few bucks more for something you may not need? Also, Blackberry is one of the first in this game to be successful. I always go with history and reputation. Palm is too overrated. Trust me, I used to own a palm II, palm III, palm V, Palm Tungsten-T. Basically, I had to upgrade every two years with the palm. I've had this blackberry for two years now. I don't even need to upgrade or have even considered upgrading. It's perfect enough for me to last another 2 or 3 years. And this is coming from a computer guy who builds a new computer every year and a half. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

The blackberry does it all. The treo is in color so it's more flashy and unpractical. Put it this way. Taking the blackberry with you on the road is like taking your computer with you on the road. You'll have your e-mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks readily avialable on the blackberry. If you want convenience, it's the way to go. Just make sure you synchronize after you make an update to either to outlook or on the blackberry. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

You just pay a packaged wireless service fee. You can setup as many e-mail accounts to it as you want. My job gave it to me as a necessary evil. I don't love it nor do I hate it. I find it convenient. My work e-mail is setup on it. I also setup my personal e-mail account to be linked to it. I have the nextel model. Therefore, it's a nextel radio, portable e-mail and a cellphone. It's the way to go. It's practical. If I were to get stuck on Gilligan's Island, I can be home by the end of the day. well, this guy did. Check it out: Base Jumping without a rig What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo? -
I know that you can bring your rig on board a plane as a carry on. I want to board the plane with my carry on luggage as well. So here are my question: If I carry on my rig on the plane, should it be in my gear bag or can I lug it on the plane like a backpack and store it under the seat when I'm in the plane? I want both the carry on and rig on the plane at the same time. However, I realize that some airlines only allow you to have one carry on and maybe a backpack that you can store underneath the seat. Please let me know what you think. Thanks What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

Surprisingly, when I told my teammates that I would keep my mouth shut, they were taken aback by it. They didn't want me to stop criticizing the dive briefs. They said they appreciated my honesty. Weird, huh? I did point out their mistakes to them but I also gave some comments as to how to correct it going forward. Well, I'm sticking to my decision anyway, I'll let the experts point out the things we need to work on instead. We did have this talk already. I think getting the team together mentally is just a work in progress. I must learn patience and accomodate everyone else's speed. Good advice. I'll bring this point up to them. Well, I only split up the team in two 2 ways so that we can get our fall rates and flying in heading down. The fact that everyone was just all over the place in position and fall rate was a bit dangerous to me. I wanted to minimize the danger for us all. Even with over 300 jumps, I'm still working on watching out for my surroundings and flying my body. It's a hard thing to master, let me tell you. Tell me about it. Some guy posted their 4 way video when he only had 50 jumps. Let me tell you, I was embarassed and ashamed of myself. I cannot even hold a candle to that guy. I hope they agree to the coaching. The eager side of me wants to get there yesterday. I will have to slow myself down and work at everyone else's speed. Thanks. I will definitely share these pointers with my team. Whether or not they take it at face value is a different case. I'm just hoping for the best and hope that we can all come to some kind of terms. Thank you all for your help! This is way over my head. I hope if and when we decide to get coaching, she'll explain this theory in idiot terms for me. Yes, a round. That's usually our initial plan. Get the round down on exit. Amen to that. I stopped doing that. I will only wear video on my head if I'm not in the formation and I intend on doing strictly video. We all started wearing RW suits the past 20 jumps together. I think we may still all be adjusting to wearing booties. The other 300jump guy always wore an RW suit since he started jumping. Which is why he's the best flyer of us all. I used to be the guy that you hated, the one wearing a baggy suit. I used to jump with a freefly suit that had leg grips and should grips. I have about 250 skydives on that suit. I flew so efficiently, relaxed and stable with that suit. This RW suit that I'm wearing now is so different for me. I wear sleeves with this suit as well. I get so frustrated because I sometimes go low with other people. When I flew with Cheri and Lindsay from O2, they said I fall just fine. They even took off their weights to see if others were right about my fast fall rate. However, when I flew with others in a 6-10 way formation, people said that I fell like a rock. I don't know which one it is and it's frustrating to know if my suit is giving me fall rate problems or not. There are so many good 4 way teams at the DZ. They're always in their team rooms so it's hard to ask for advice from them. When we do see them, they're usually dirt diving or on the plane so I can't really distract them to ask questions. I can only think of just paying for coach jumps. We'll have to discuss our goals as a team together this weekend. I hope we all agree on getting coached jumps. I do want more. However, I can't be expect for others to be on the same page too. I'll have to ask everyone and find out. No offense taken. I found out this past weekend, I need to work on improvement too. I flew with two different guys. For the first time, I didn't have to chase them and when they were docking with me, my perception made me think that I was driving myself towards them so I stuck my arms out to stop and backslide so I wouldn't crash into them. This was a mistake on my part. I didn't know what the heck to do with my body and I had a fear instilled on me that they were coming fast towards me. I wasn't used to someone flying towards me so smoothly, it was weird and I didn't know how to react to it. Well, they both taught me that I should just fly with my arms bent and fist clenched to allow them to dock on my wrists. I tried this and it worked out well, I stayed in place and they docked on me. I never called them low timers to their face. I'm just giving them a label to describe them. Wrong choice of words on my part. Excuse my ignorance. It didn't occur to me that this would be an offensive description to them. Thanks. I will keep this in mind. I will not be the ahole in the group any longer. I'll just keep my mouth shut and let the experts point out the things we need to work on. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?

Thanks, I hope we all decide to get the coaching. I talked with the team about my criticism and told them that I decided not to say anything and just have an experienced or a JM evaluate the skydive and a videographer to shoot the video. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo?
