  1. It has been nice watching this thread and seeing people speak for others. Also the person who should chime in is Miles.. Although I have only made 2 Jumps with Miles and Shane I cant comment on them being "THE BEST". better than me but not the BEST in my limited experience base jumping, but much experience evaluating others in gymnastics. I cant say that Miles is "THE BEST". he may be training now, but from what I have seen is that he is "TALENTED" at not getting broke!!! HE does things the rest of us DONT and gets away with it.. Hopefully he does train and become more "CLEAN" with his aerials.. He does push the limits. he does make people upsset, and does things that WE may call unethical. Obviously WE are all keeping this thread going.. SOOOO MILES IS FAMOUS.. you could be too.. get off your ass and jump.. Just My 2c not good not bad.. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  2. I have Kitted my Mojo 280.. here is how it went.. I went to the local park to air out my canopy. by the time I got here the winds had picked up to much to do a standard ground inspecion.. sooo.... I walked across the park and climbed up the 200 foot hill at the top stood a nice tree.. with wind blowing from 30 degrees off the back of the hill over the top at about 25 MPH.. I climbed the tree wrapped myself around the tree and dropped my canopy with 180 twist so that it would inflate..the wind was at my back and I was looking around the tree over the hill.. Instantly my canopy blasted straight up. so with out more thought I slid to the side and let go... ZZZIIINNNGGG... i blasted up 30 feet inthe air. over the edge of the hill. everything seemed fine.. untill I tried to spin out of the line twist. spinning caused me to load the canopy wrong and make the canopy dive to the right back intot he hill. FLAIR FLAIR FLAIR..... PLF I was on the ground.. the the wind caught the caonpy again. and I was back up in the air for at least a moment untill I hit again and the was drug for 50 yards. then back up inthe air flying again.. then.. I was like a rag doll after fight running hitting the ground and being drug for 100 yards or better I finally decided to pull the cutaway handle... the kids at the playground thought it was awesome DOES THIS QUALIFY ME TO BE A PARAGLIDER? 4. Tom, I agree with you completely. I was not trying to say that Karen's reply was misplaced. I am glad that she did post. This SHOULD be a place for the spread of information. Unfortunately that good information is overshadowed by posts just trying to "BEAT the dead horse". instead of saying thanks Karen. we get post such as why didnt you tell us sooner, or other BLAH. Thanks Karen for the info. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  5. Karen, Thanks for taking the time to put yourself in the line of fire. I am sure you understand not much usefullness comes from this board in these situations. As we can see from the posts people enjoy sticking poking and repoking the dead horse. We are glad that peterK lived. I hope that all the manufactures take some time to update thier pages as soon as possible, as we all need GOOD current info. I know I would rather get it from your site than a thread on this board. I am currently jumping a Reactor4 and fox 245 with multi and vents. I dont use the stows. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  6. Base 311 thanks for the Document link on DBS... Recomended read for everyone CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  7. Tom, do you have any good articles on the propper way to adjust the different settings on your brakes. or maybe you should do a small write up on the (tom's) proper way to set your brakes and a little theory on what hapens and why. what to look for on opening. 1. total line length for toggle input (full flight how much slack behind canopy) 2. moving the deep brake finger trap 3. moving the shallow brake finger trap 4. when to use shallow or deep brakes with slider up 5. when to use shallow or deep with slider down. 8. Tom, feel free to edit or make it a POLL. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  9. Tom, yes I did see it. I was just trying to get a little different thought from people on how a PC could possibly effect thier equipment setup. a little devils advocate. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  10. How many people have altered the brake settings on their canopy. did you alter both the light setting and the deep brake setting? what methods did you use to actually test and set. tom did you reset your brakes after our jumps in moab? CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  11. Faber, lets just say for argument that BASE864 is 300# and is jumping a 322 that is a wing loading of .9317 the recomended weight is about 200# - 260# max.. or .6 - .81 wingloading. (correct me if im wrong) Also take into account how a canopy is made. making a canopy BIGGER does not = the SAME opening and flight performance. we do know that 1. fat people fall faster (depending on air resistance) 2. big canopy opens slower 3. no vents open slower 4. FAT people hit harder. Faber good call on the BRAKES. It is possible that he was stalling the canopy thus not allowing it to infalte.or used too deep of a brake setting. JUST my .02 CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  12. possible tension knot or Tailgate wrapped too tight. I happen to see on opening look much like that at BD this year on my friends canopy. he had put an extra wrap on his tailgate band. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  13. Tom, I agree that pilot chute oscillation is not a good thing and that every step that we take to make our jumps safer is a good thing. but what are the actuall effects of an ascillating pilot chute on canopy opening? two scenarios 1.. I can see it making a impact on possible canopy horizontle movement. I dont see the single attachment point making a difference in horizontal rotation. IE off heading opening. now given enough time and rotation if the bridle was allowed to spin up to a pint of binding then it might start to make a canopy rotate... 2.. on a canopy with a multi point bridle initially the effect would be the same. that is untill the velco peals and the attachment points become farther apart. now the ascillating or rotating piolt chute has the ability to actually "apply rotaional force".. remeber we are talking about a very low canopy opeing speed and opening time. Tom just looking for you to give some actuall real world report about the effect of an oscillating PC. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954

  15. I was there to witness both of the jumps that base864 is talking about. with any given error the weather packing, and PCA technique where the same. on the first jump without vents he did have an open canopy. it just never finished presurizing, then he hit the ground. the second jump with vents the canopy opened instantly and he out flew the rest of our landings. to compare: my landing was actually the shortest. 200# exit weight jumping a vented(no vent covers) fox 245. Mine also opens instanly but sinks out very fast. he out flew me by about 30 yards or more. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954

    NEW BASE NUMBER

I was kinda replying to the few comments about trying to just get a base number as quick as possible and not being safe. that tone is echoed all over this board. and it is true. going for the number without learning or jsut wanting to jump cause its cool can have grave concequinces. I am a determined person and am glad that I have had great mentors, and want to be a great base jumper. Thats all. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954

    NEW BASE NUMBER

Base 864. I stole yo MOJO baby!! (austin powers) I do have to say that even though I am the crazy stupid new guy that "thinks" he knows it all like the other new dumbasses.. (thats me) Its guys like BASE864 and the other KC guys (DONK) that have kept me ALIVE. I read all the other posts on DZ.com everyday. and even though I dont reply I see myself saying some of the DUMB shit the other new guys or Wanna be's saying. Although I say and think many of those things I am fortunate enough to have the BEST group of guys to learn from. and learn what NOT TO DO. and watch out for me. In my one year of jumping I have met, talked to and learned from many people in many places. but it all comes back to having a SOLID CORE group of jumpers that I jump with teaching and mentoring me all the time. ITs great that I completed my BASE number before 1000, and that was my goal. it was my QUEST FOR BASE. I also have had a quest to learn as much as possible. So you other NEW guys go out ask questions. Seek information. know what you can. and most important be safe. IF you ask you budy to hold your PC and he thinks twice so should you.... so dont think about doing a PCA'd GAINER from 220ft. See ya all at Turkey Boogie CHICKEN MAN BASE 954

  21. RAYLOSI, you are right but all wrong. calling us insensative and pig like is bad, but saying that we dont talk is going way to far. for instance. Bridge Day fell on my 10 yr class reunion and my girlfriend was all excited to go to the reunion. So I being sensitive told her to go have fun at my reunion but I was going to BD. My girl is awsome and never complains about me going with or without her. I think it is because of now much we talk about jumping. and she know how much it means to me. all kidding aside I have made some very tough decisions about jumping and relationships. they are still easy as I am not married and dont have kids. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  22. You are having the same problem as thousands of other people in the world that are invleved in extreme sports. Race car driving, skydiving, base jumping, and all the others. Just as in skydiving, BASE jumping casuses problems in some relationships. Like I told my last 2 girlsfriends, 1 fiance, and current girlfriend. Skydiving/Base jumping came before you. You accepted me when you met me as a jumper. If you dont like it jumping will continue after you. So if you do what I did you will decide what is more important and leave your woman for a new one that accepts your habbits. Or you will do the other and quit jumping. GOOD LUCK chicken man CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  23. I need to give a big thanks to Tom A. I have been chasing my Earth jump all summer. It seemed as if It was never going to happen. a few weeks ago I decided to head out to moab before the Go Fast games. Tom took the time to go way out of his way to meet me in moab. we went out and made two jumps on thursday. THAT WAS KICK ASS. and the completion of my base number.(waiting to see what number I get) then we drove like mad men to the royal gorge. And thanks to all you other guys who introduced and guided me in BASE. See you all at BD. CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
  24. I figured it would get some attention. Yeah she is a cool chick. patient enought to sit around and be ground crew. cool enough not to kick my ass for posting like that. a little help from the locals would be great. tymkoder CHICKEN MAN BASE 954
