  1. Yes, just trying to get the DNS names correct. I can use www.basejumping.net right now and it works fine. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  2. I will. THis is a real bummer. Saturday night the banner was there, Sunday afternoon it was not. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  3. I really hate to have to announce this, but someone has taken the black BLiNC Magazine banner from the HI conference room. I called Jason and the HI, and they don't have it. Does anyone know who took my banner? x( Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  4. I will be at Bridge Day late Thursday Afternoon. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  5. The BASE board became this sometime ago but with the US BASE'rs posting back and forth cute comments.............. this place arrived where some of the newer jumpers could post in a more "friendly" environment. i do think the idea of this forum is being lost a little - i would like to see a closer and more regular "crew" on Blinc again............. it would be somewhat "cleaner" I would love to know how to create a better environment on BLiNC, but not many people offer much help to a solution. After 9+ years of running this thing, it is just not getting easier. All comments and suggestions are very welcome! 6. Jason who? Can you please email me as I really want to know! Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  7. Noted and appreciated. I have gotten pretty good feedback sofar, and do not need 100 people, just about a dozen. And I am almost there now. But just wait, it is going to be great as the feedback I have gotten sofar has been extremely positive! 8. I have a new application about to be released and I need a few people willing to dedicate some free time until October 15th to help me fix issues with the site (Not really BASE Related). So, BASE Jumping is not a requirement at all. Please email me ASAP if you are willing to help. I can give full details then. I am online all day, every day until October 15th and could really use the help. I am not needing anything difficult, and do not need computer GURU's. I need anyone with the time to test. I need as many hours you can donate until next Tuesday (Oct 14th). But also the patience to give detailed feedback for a short period. Really I just want people to "USE" this new site and tell me what they like, dislike and/or what is broken. BTW, Tom A, please remove this posting on October 15th as it will be expired and not needed anymore. 10. Thank you for actually helping me to find out about the status of national news as a slap in the face on this skydiving forum instead of actually emailing me. c'mon Mick--are you really that ignorant? The jumpers who live in that state probably don't agree with your assessment above. Whether it's been jumped or not is irrelevant. If it was in your Backyard, you'd be at the head of the lynch mob. Sites should not be named--PERIOD. National news or not. Illegal or not. Previously jumped or not. That would be akin to raking landing areas so the pretty neon jumpsuit won't get red with desert dust--just bad ethics. PS: that 'project' in the national news is no longer happening--now it is neither relevant nor appropriate, so you can get rid of it now. 11. most of the discussions here are _not_ skydivers looking into BASE, they are very in depth questions about BASE. Which is specifically against the purpose of this forum, i.e. skydivers looking into BASE jumping Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  12. I actually started hacking with HTTP in 1991 and got my first domain in 1993 called websolutions.com which I later sold when I purchased BASE Logic.com after the corporation websolutions was hijacked. Oh well. I later purchased BLiNC Magazine after Michelle came up with that name. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  13. Glad you like it! Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  14. This is actually a national news article reposted. The Royal goarge is like El Cap as far as names. It is not a hidden object that has not been jumped. This is also like devulging the Empire State Building. It has been jumped before. This is not new news. Was i wrong to post that up here then ? or am i missing some sarcasm here ? Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  15. I actually on cencor sight names. Just like dz.com. There is far more freedom on BLiNC than there is in dz,com, so that comment in _WAY_ out of line in my opinion. Yes most people _READ_ both, but they are starting to post more on dz.com about BASE jumping issues that have been the focuc of BLiNC for 10 years. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  16. After running BLiNC since 1993, I have finally spent several thousand dollars to revamp the look-and-feel of BLiNC Magazine. I know many of the orginal patrons of BLiNC have moved here to DZ.com, as well as many skydivers have never discovered what I have been been spending 100% of my time and extra money on for 10 years now, but.... Try BLiNC again..... The look-and-feel is easier as to the users feedback, and there are still over 4,000 document on BASE JUMPING only. No skydiving. Not to mention much much more... And, as many of you might not know, without traffic, site cannot exist. So without patronage, there is no way to survive. So the patronage you once had for BLiNC, is needed more than ever. 17. Well, with everyones feedback, I have begun to redesign the look and feel of BLiNC. But I desperately need images, and feedback. I need images to integrate into the site layout. I need feedback, to make this as good as it can be. So, please visit and post to the thread I already have started: http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=7&topic_id=13444&mesg_id=13444&page= Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."

Either you get very serious about what you are doing, or we are going to have another year like/worse than last year: There is already a second death: http://www.blincmagazine.com/cms/article_357.shtml Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."

  22. Well said. Every cliff, and (most)Buildings, (most) antennae and (most) bridges will outlive most everyone reading this. You have time to visit it again. Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."
  23. I agree with this. I must tell you here, the people reading this are suppose to be new (zero jumps) or very low timers. That audience should not even be remotly considering the McC, DBag, SL or other forms of jumping low. If you do, the number of deaths will again go up. New jumpers do not/will not have the mental reaction at these altitudes. It takes experience that you can olny get BASE Jumping. This is why so many of the old timers are conservative. I just think that talking about the details with lowtimers can give the impression that it is OK when it is not. Even the BEST can get hurt or killed. Look at Slim with 1,300 jumps. Anyone can get hurt/killed. If you push too hard too fast, the chances increase. If you pace yourself and learn from the oldtimers mistakes, you will live to be an oldtimer yourself. Take your time. Walk down from jumps! Do not jump because anyone else did/does. If someone else does something that you do not understand, or is above your abilities, you do NOT have to follow. If you get hurt or killed, it is all you. You have to live with the consequences. Every time. Jump numbers.

I came across an interesting article on BLiNC just now: http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=7&topic_id=3937 Mick Knutson * BLiNC Magazine "Everything you ever wanted to know about Parachuting, but didn't know whom to ask."

    Jump numbers.

Tom, I totally agree with you except for the "Opening of Objects". What I don't agree with is any impression that new(er) jumpers think that to progress in the sport they have to "Open" new objects. I think it is far more important to just jump different objects for progression. I think there are many pitfalls to opening an object that a new(er) jumper may/would have no idea about. So for a new(er) jumper focusing on 300' bridges, 1,000' towers, 400' cliffs, 3,000' cliffs, desert, forest, urban etc. This is where the potential progress lies. There are many jumpers going to Norway each year that have never delayed over seconds. This is just an example. But I do feel this is important. UNFORTUNATLY I THINK THERE IS EVEN A LARGER GAP THAT OBJECTS AND JUMP NUMBERS I have pissed many people off in my day and will continue to do so because no matter how many jumps they get, or objects they open, or whatever, these people do not learn what I would call the 1st basic rule WEAR AS MUCH BODY ARMOR AS POSSIBLE. You talk about these people who have 500 jumps....how many of them do not wear good helmets, knee pads and possibly back braces? Except for at the Perine, I don't know any myself. After 500 jumps myself, I have seen massive death, serious injuries and the like. Jump numbers never seem to matter when a cliff strike is inevitable. The only thing that matters is keping calm, and being dressed for the "Crash". OF EVERYTHING I SAY ON THE INTERNET OR IN PERSON, I WOULD NOT CARE IF EVERYTHING ELSE WAS IGNORED EXCEPT FOR THESE WORDS: If you do not have protective gear, do not jump EVER!" I have seen many people that do not skydive without good shoes and a full face helmet, but wear nothing basejumping. there is something sersiously wrong with that no matter how many jumps you have. sorry for the rambling, I have just had a very bad day.
