I've got a sabre 2 170 loaded at 1.15 and I've been pretty happy with it until I started jumping my friend's Sabre 2 170, and realized it flies completely different. The front and rear riser and toggle pressure is higher on my canopy, and mine doesn't plane out on flare nearly as well as my friend's. My friend's canopy consistently opens on-heading while mine spins me around on opening. I'm guessing this is a line trim problem, but my canopy supposidly only has 200 jumps, while my friend's has 100. I didn't think they got out of trim that quickly. Should I just take a measuring tape and try to measure the length of the lines to see if they are different?

What jump # did you first land standing up?
jheadley replied to Nickkk's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i stood up 27 of my first 30 jumps. first time i fell was on my aff graduation jump the bad thing is i didn't learn to plf for a while and got into the bad habit of trying to stand up every landing even if i knew i could get hurt. -
If the wing loading for two canopies is the same, the smaller canopy will still be faster and more responsive. One reason is the lines are a lot shorter on a smaller canopy.

Yea I didn't think it would be counted, although I heard a USPA director say it was, so I wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up.

does tunnel time count as freefall time? I've heard one big-name person say it does, others say it doesn't.
-
you aren't by any chance looking for another instructor at AAC are you? I'd need some traing though.
-
I'll agree with everything said here. I just went to AAC for my first wind tunnel experience a few weeks ago and it was awesome. Beautiful location, and excelent staff. john is an incredible coach and he and dawn are very very nice and welcoming. I just wish i had enough money to go back.

Using front risers for penetrating winds
jheadley replied to jheadley's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I've been told that if you have a short spot (the wind is blowing at you instead of with you), then you can use front risers to help penetrate the winds. I read in brian germain's book that in low to moderate winds, you can use rear risers to help you get back, which will keep foward speed the same but just lower your vertical speed. I understand that pulling front risers make the angle of attack steeper which increases your vertical speed, so I'm wondering why that would be beneficial for a strong headwind. If I had to guess, I'd say that while front risers does increase your vertical drop dramatically, it also increases foward speed a little bit? If the winds are blowing at 15mph and your canopy's foward speed is 15mph, you wouldn't go anywhere, but if you pulled front risers, and it did increase your foward speed to say 18mph, that would help you back, although it will get you down a lot faster. Am I correct? Also, when a canopy "planes out" after a front riser turn, does it just plane out to back to it's normal glide, or does it actually plane out like it does when you flare? Thanks. -
a decrease in performance, less penetration, a definite decrease of flare power. They're not bad canopies though, just don't expect to swoop one. On the plus side, they pack easy!

Ha, I know a guy who still jumps with a split slider. He's 75 years old!

Well i found the slink installation guide so I took the slinks off, took the bumpers off and put the slinks on with no problem! Now I just need to do a line check to make sure everything is all square. Thanks!
-
I've got these covers over my soft links and I was wondering how you get them off, so I can pull my slider down behind my head. (pic attached) Also, I've heard that pulling your sider down doesn't actually help performance unless you jump at least a 135 or smaller. I jump a 170 right now, but when I look at pictures of my canopy in the air, it seems like pulling the slider down would help it to stretch out more. So what is the deal?

can i get my number?

Check out Adrenaline Air Sports, it's in Jonesville, which is not too far from Charlotte. It's a very nice small cessna dropzone with a beautiful view, and great people. It's a great place for students. PM me if you are interested or have any questions.

I got it to work for the mpeg videos but the dvd still shows up blank. oh well. thanks.

Say I've got a DVD or an MPEG movie, and I want to capture still pictures from it. How do I do that? I've tried to pause the video, take a screen shot, and then paste it into MS paint, but the video square just shows up black. Also, can anyone suggest a good video editing program? Free, perhaps

One Word : RELAX You'll hear it a million times during your training and you'll hate it every time they say it, but it's the truth. Relaxing is the key to good skydiving. PM me if you want me to elaborate on my experiences. Have fun

by the way, team 402 is not called "Fall", it's called "Fallatio", but the fascist judges wouldn't let them use the name Fallatio Justin

I've got a video of the Z being lit, and of the two people being pied and thrown in the swoop pond. I didn't really get any pictures of people landing becacuse it seemed like about 80% of them landed off!

Very very cool. The Vah Techies (aka Fallatio) were planning on doing a 14-way but we never got around to it. Oh well, next year!

Shooting Fireworks Out of Your Ass Can Be Painful
jheadley replied to PalletMan's topic in The Bonfire
I know a certain skydiver and DZO who actually did this exact same thing... I have to keep the name a secret to protect the guilty, though. Look at his arch in pic 3! -
Ok here are some cheesy attempts at copying your coolness http://filebox.vt.edu/users/jheadley/images/attack%20of%20the%20clones.jpg http://filebox.vt.edu/users/jheadley/images/clones2.jpg

rock on I can't imagine all the shit that you and other teachers have to put up with (Oh noes did I just end a sentence with a preposition? ). I appreciate teachers very much for all their hard work.
