  1. Good idea. I jump at St Andrews, I know that there are a few others from Scotland who check out the site. Maybe we could have a gathering. I found this site from a link on Skydive Strathallens website
  2. Thanks for the links, I tried a search last night, butI couldn't have done it right. As far as budget goes, I not too concerened how much it costs as long as I'm not getting ripped off. I don't mind paying for quality and features that are usful, not gimmicks. Thanks again Tom
  3. I'm thinking about starting to jump with a camera. Which models of digital camera are recommended and which should be avoided. It seems that most people jump with a sony, but there are so many models I don't know which would suit. Initially I only want to record my jumps. Tom
  4. I wear a chest mount alti when I do RW and so do most of the people I jump with. This way the people who are jumping with me can watch out for altitude on me and I can watch out on theirs. It means you don't have to break too much rhythm to check a wrist mount alti while jumping with someone. Oh and if you've got a protrack, use it at your ear. You can hear the beeps better. S'later Tom
  5. I got great value from H&B by taking out there annual cover £130, this includes skydiving and winter sports and any trip where I'm away for 3 days UK or abroad. I was paying £90 for annual without skydiving cover. £40 for a years skydiving insurance sounds good to me. S'later Tom.
  6. I kept mine in the fridge before I got a humidador. Just let them reach room temperature before you light up. They'll stay fresh and moist as long as you need. You can also use this method to refresh dry cigars, but they have to be left in the fridge for a fairly long time. S'later Tom.
  7. Thanks for the help, I was going to get covers on my metal links, but I think I'll get the soft links instead.
  8. I have noticed more and more people have converted to soft links from risers to lines. Is there any benefit to having the soft links?
  9. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to take it on and not say a word, unless pressed. S'later. Tom.
  10. Is there any problem with taking a cypres on a plane? I know its all suposed to be sorted out, but is there any airline which is particularly bad or good about them. Do you have to inform them at the time of booking? S'later
  11. I've read the phrase psycho packing once or twice on this site, but I've never heard of it anywhere else. What is it exactly and what is its purpose? S'later Scud.
  12. I went to the one in Las Vegas when I was on holiday. I couldn't jump at the DZ there because of floods, all the way from the UK to the middle of the desert and I couldn't jump because of floods, nightmare. Anyway, I thought I give it a try. It was mostly tourist who were flying at it and the instructors were non-skydivers. It was a nice distraction, but because of the baggy suit and the heat it was very uncomfortable. The actual flying was fun, but very hard work, the body position was slightly different and my stomach muscles were aching when I came out, I also thought it was pretty expensive for what you got, a couple of minutes in a class of 6. 6 people for 15 minutes. I would give it a go for a laugh otherwise I would save my money, unless you have a specific problem which you or your instructor thinks needs to be sorted out in a wind tunnel. S'later scud.
  13. I was in NZ last December and jumped at The great Lake Skydiving Centre at Taupo. It was the start of the summer, the sun was out and the snow stilled capped the top of the maountains, It has to have been one of the best views I've had from the air. I went down to Queenstown but never got round to jumping I reckon it would have been even better, itsright up in the mountains with lakes all around. The best view back home, Scotland, has to be at Skydive Strathallan. On a good day you can see Ben Nevis, Even in the winter, when it's -20 oC at altitude and the snows on the ground it still looks amazing.
  14. What should you do? Get her up there. I would love my girlfriend to understand why I would rather spend my weekends in a Cesna rather than in a bed. Its no reflection on her, but a reflection on the sport.
  15. I would love a skychick girlfriend, but there just isn't enough to go around. So until the sport gets more, I'm stuck with a wuffo chick who thinks I'm selfish because I won't spend weekends with her (I only get 2 weekends every month due to work, so I think she's the one who's being selfish). She just won't jump.
  16. I've just found the other thread. It's got what I was looking for. Hate to double post sorry all.
  17. I've just bought all new gear. After having test flown the new Electra from Parachutes de France I ordered one. I was very impressed by it but I only managed half a dozen jumps. Anyone out there with any more experiance with them. Any comments? I can't find any review anywhere. P de F don't even have them on there web site yet.
