  1. Longest I ever went between jumps was 8 days... it's not an obsession... it's dedication. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. Dude, the only bad skydive you will have, is the one you don't walk away from... lighten up a bit and things will go smoother. There's no such thing as a "perfect jump" anyway; there is always room for improvement. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  3. We have some multi-petabyte StorageTek arrays at one of the sites I support... talk about big bucks! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. You will have to ask your local DZ's instructors about this one... sorry. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. Control is just an illusion... sometimes it is more fun to just sit back and enjoy the ride. I would have no problem going on another tandem for fun or as a training jump for a new tandem instructor (I think you need a C license for this if I am not mistaken). It would be rather entertaining to try and mess with the TM on the exit or before they get the drogue out. (as long as we discussed it first obviously) NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. I got a lot out of my second tandem before AFF, way more than my first tandem... it certainly can't hurt to do another one first. I know I was a lot less nervous for AFF1 because I already had 2 jumps under my belt. My second tandem was basically a dress rehearsal for AFF1 and since they all count towards your A license, why not do it if you feel like it. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

    PLF

I had an "Airborne" friend of mine in the Army that used to jump out of trees to practice his PLF... he wasn't the brightest guy in the world... I wonder what happened to him anyway? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  8. At first glance it just seemed dangerous to me, i.e. the potential for a mistake during fabrication could be higher than in a mass-produced and thoroughly tested "production" link such as a Slink. I was just curious. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. Thanks to all that responded to my question without creating another debacle like the previous thread. I guess I owe beer for being a PITA. ~Matt~ NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. Indeed... I will try to be less adversarial in my future posts. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  11. Clearly you don't know Matt. I have already discovered from previous threads that at 50ish jumps he knows all there is to know about the sport. Wow, having never met me, you have me all figured out... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  12. Thanks for the info Wendy. Since obviously there was a difference of opinion, and others chose to flame instead of inform, it is nice to see that someone with a cooler head could explain it better. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  13. I seriously hope you are joking... considering a set of Slinks only costs $24.95, why would you want to risk a DIY set? Or is it for a science project or something? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. Since there was a difference of opinion regarding the author and/or contributing author(s) of the AFF and/or ISP program from a previous thread here is the exact wording as was related to me upon entry to AFF and as printed in the Skydive Arizona Ground School Manual: "In 1984 Al wrote the first edition of the AFF Student Manual for his own DZ, and has seen it being used all over the world." from thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1275773;page=1;mh=-1;;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC These would appear to be conflicting or at best confusing... wouldn't you agree mjosparky. If you are going to continually flame me via PMs days and days after this thread reached it logical conclusion perhaps you should unblock my messages so I can respond in kind. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  15. I was not referring to the gear comments, I was referring to the rest of the post re: the NASA tragedies. I have no opinion regarding B-12 snaps either way, FWIW, I had them on my student Telesis rigs and I didn't have any issues with them. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  16. You will probably want to avoid the main (north) landing area when you jump at Eloy and head towards the south/student landing area... there is usually far less canopy traffic there and it is less stressful and much easier to fly a normal pattern and land upwind vs the main landing area. See ya there! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. I also did 2 tandems before AFF... while I am sure that I could have passed AFF I without the 2nd tandem enough people recommended it that it seemed like a good idea. Besides, a skydive is a skydive, they all count towards an A license. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  18. Don't forget the Lotus from Big Air Sportz too...
  19. I have a pair of those and love 'em... I second that! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  20. 0:0:5 split 10 minutes of tunnel time with my bro's wife... no jumps until tomorrow... it was psycho at Perris... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. nice... I just need to take the written test I'll have mine. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  22. I have had pretty much the same experience as you... except I started out on a bit smaller canopies at Eloy. Almost all the packers there will be really helpful once they get to know you better. A couple still charge me an extra buck since I fly a 190 but its not really a big deal. If you want to get off of a student canopy go talk to the various instructors, it is likely that they will be able to give you some guidance. I have always found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable. Just don't be surprised if they keep running off during the days when there are a lot of tandems. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  23. I'll hold you to that... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
