Mirage flaps are lined with parapack inside. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Well, if the next size up (V319) lists Speed 120 as a tight fit, it's logical that no Speed reserve should fir in the smaller container since 120 is the smallest Paratec makes. This is a good starting point indeed. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I do have speed 2000 120 in a V306, it's a perfect fit... One thing worth noting is that UPT provides info for speed instead of speed 2000, the second one is true low-bulk reserve and first one is standard fabric.... To my knowledge, there's only one Speed reserve in size 180. Designed in the late '80s and certified under the German DFV?! No span wise reinforcement. All other sizes are Speed 2000. FAA and EASA TSO certified. I'm pretty sure Stefan will clear this up at some point. Now,... Paratec will make you any size Speed 2000 from the regular 0-3 cfm fabric upon request. They have about 10 colors available. The low bulk however, comes only in white. What is the chance that Paratec will send reserves with the normal fabric to UPT for sizing?! I'd say zero. The same reserves went to Rigging Innovations (and I believe VSE) for sizing as well, and if you look at the Curv sizing chart, you will see that a Speed 120 goes in the same rig as Optimum 99. Bottom line, you(or your rigger) shouldn't trust Vector sizing chart in regards to Speed reserves! Stefan? That's my point. It doesn't pack as tight as they say it does. Nope. And the attachment is a Speed 135 in V316! (again no typo). According to their chart, it shouldn't fit, right?! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Those Compass Rules are doing a good job at what they were initially designed to do.Which is reducing the chance of killing yourself under an open canopy, until you gain some experience. What I still don't get is how you are allowed to make your first skydive ever under a Sabre1 170 with WL of 1.0, but the following week and 20 jumps later you are not allowed to jump a Silhouette 210 with WL of .81 And at the end of the day, it's an activity for adults and if you want to play games and break the rules, you probably will go under the radar, unless you start telling everyone how awesome you are and how much shit you don't give....then you gonna get what's coming! Oh, and oddly enough there's no rule on how big your reserve should be. Recently I refused packing a PDR143 for a guy who said that he upsized his main to 190, because we was not current. He was told by the person who sold him the gear that PDR 143 will fly and land the same way his Sabre 2 190 will.... I packed my first Speed reserve in 2006 and I haven't noticed any fabric change or packing volume inconsistency since then. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I just wanted to share a picture with you. The freebag is V319 and the canopy inside is a Speed 2000 150. According to UPT's chart, Speed 120 would be a full fit...You make your own conclusion. Stay safe! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

They look like Akando to me! http://www.akando.com/en/goggles-clear "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Let me tell you a secret that will blow your mind...but don't tell anyone ok?! Infinity is the only rig on the market that was used in a super sonic freefall jump. Furthermore, ask any speed skydiving coach about containers and my bet is, 10 out of 10 will say "stay away from magnets". So maybe, if stiffeners are good for speeds above 500km/h, maybe they will be good for the speeds of a regular FF jump? Dunno! I'll take Infinity above any other rig on the market....and if I have to jump a Vortex 2, I'll quit skydiving ! I have a customer with exactly the same problem. Wings suggested to replace the reserve pin cover flap. That's a major repair and if you choose to go this way, make sure you pick an experienced master rigger, or send it back to Wings. Are you sure those are not in centimeters? Never seen a canopy with 5 inches slack! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Mel, Are you aware they've increased the mesh portion of the RPC, by a lot? Cheers! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

At the latest PIA symposium, Nancy from Parachute Labs (those are the people that manufacture a lot of pins) did a demo where she bended and straightened a pin to 90 degrees angle 27 times before it broke....So I guess straightening a slight bend will do nothing to the strength. .....or was it 37 times? Nancy?! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Which rig would you recommend? Wings, Mirage, Icon, etc.
Deyan replied to Skytrooper's topic in Gear and Rigging
Brand loyalty is very common thing among skydivers. Vector was "embraced" by the FF community because every freeflyer who is worth something got his rig for free or with some kind of a discount. And as we know, you should never trust sponsored jumper who is "advising" you what to buy. Here is some food for a thought....Speed skydivers and especially Speed skydiving instructors, are against magnetic riser covers as they don't hold well at high speeds. Funny eh?! To the OP, buy an Infinity and you will never regret. Mirage and Wings are fine too. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Fun to fly low bulk canopy. Pulse vs. Pilot ZPX

Send an email to hans at performancedesigns dot com and see what he can do for you. He will visit some DZs in Germany this summer. If you plan on visiting some Dutch DZs, I might be able to help as well. Take care "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Thanks for the info. I'm going to check it out this Monday. The other option is that ZZ-568 which I was told is made by DA for Global. DA makes the same machine known as 524. The Global is more expensive because it's with Efka servo motor, but the foot clearance is 11mm. I do a lot of tandem repairs and having that extra 2-3 mm is a big plus. And Walt, I don't think you really want to import machines from EU. Only the shipping charges will scare you ;) "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Does any of you guys have experience with this machine? Positive or negative?! I need a reliable zig-zag machine for heavy stuff ( toggle tips for example ) and I ran into one of these. The guy selling it said 14mm clearance under the feet, but it sounds a bit unreal. Anyone? Mel, Jerry, Terry? Yes they are. 15 years as well "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I believe that's Mini Cricket. If that's the case, no lifetime set by the manufacturer. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

They don't have an FAA TSO, so if you are US resident, you can't jump it. I'm not gonna comment about the gear itself. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Velcro riser covers = G2 Tuck tab riser covers = G3 Although I think anything made after 1998 is G3 or G4 "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Bill, the worst malfunction you can get on pull out is a total. The worst mal on throw away is PC in tow. Which one would you rather have? "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I don't know which one you should choose, but there are better ways to advertise... "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
