  1. I don't think it's possible to have the work done without removing the reserve from the container. Maybe it can be done with a sewing machine with a long arm, so you can turn the rig under the machine. 2. Mirage uses combination from type 3 and 4 on their bridles. The downside.....type 4 is more expensive Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. If he requested the inspection, and the canopy was inspected, he should pay. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. Are you sure that they both chopped at the same altitude? If the guy with the skyhook chopped first and survived and the other guy stayed 2 seconds with the mess and chopped after that, you can't really give the credit to the skyhook. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. I'm fairly certain that the skyhook is aluminum. It's aluminum. But my theory is different and also involve the magnetic covers. What I think it happens when you have a rig with magnets and a skyhook, is that the covers tend to get closed again and they also close the upper part of reserve container, making it more difficult for the freebag to leave the container. (Note: I did only a table testing. It's too expensive for me to do the real "in air" tests.) Especially when you are spinning on your back. That delay is not really big, but it's just enough for the reserve PC to beat the skyhook. Anyway, I still believe that the skyhook is good for the big size reserves. Tandems, student etc. And I still believe that the jumpers are giving it too much credit based on the skyhook promo video. 6. Only about 80-90 % they stay together. And if you lose your main, your freebag goes as well. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  7. Navigator is a student canopy, but it's not square. It's more semi elliptical. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  8. Smaller main and shorter rig Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. Why fixing something which is not broken Oh,wait....fashion I know:) Blue skies that's why everyone's jumping squares now; fashion! i have them, and i love them! but i'm a fashion-victim anyway, colour-coordinated rig and canopy, and believe it or not, i even choose my reserve to be going with the pattern.. I never said that the magnets are unnecessary. They are really good solution for the riser cover problem on some rigs. Like Vector 3. Like riggerrob said, the tolerance on the stiffener riser cover design is really small. The fabric distribution during the reserve repack must be good in order to make the riser covers perform the way they are designed. The other rigs with the same problem like V3 are (in my opinion) Icon and Javelin ( the Skyhook design). I will be happy if they switch to magnets. Other rigs are less sensitive on "poor" packing. Their riser covers perform well and I don't see a reason why they have to be changed. On the other hand,if a company sell less rigs because their riser covers are not magnetic, eventually they will have to change the design. This is what I meant when I said "fashion" P.S. Show me round with the performance of a square and I will show you a stiffener riser cover which work as good as the magnetic one "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  10. You're cooler when you toss a bomber swoop, hitting the same gates and going past the punks who downsized too fast too soon on your "uncool" canopy! Normally I'm trying to stay away from posting outside "gear and rigging" part of the forum. The reason for that is that I have more reserve repacks and patches than jumps. But since I'm not gonna give any advice,I will make an exceptions and I will tell my opinion. I think that in general 90+ % when somebody is changing his canopy size or model is about being cool. Not trying to offend anyone. Over the years I've seen too many people who were flying canopies that they shouldn't. I'm sure that they are many jumpers with 6-7-800 jumps who are able to land a Velocity. But can they really take 100% of canopy like Sabre 2 or Safire2..??? In The Netherlands you need minimum 700 jumps to jump canopy like Katana or CF. The idea behind this rule is that somebody will spend at least 700 jumps surviving the game called Skydiving and with 700 jumps he will make a better decision if he is capable of flying this kind of wing. The majority of the "wanna be cool" skydivers start searching for KA or CF when they have about 600-650 jumps. Why? Because after 700 jumps they are allowed to jump it. Not because they are ready. (well, some of them are ready). One of the most spectacular swoops I've seen was performed on Sabre 2 150 from jumper with 15 000 jumps. I think that Performance Designs have to make a video called:"See what you can do with Sabre2,Pulse,Storm.....etc. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO FLY IT" And at the end I'm gonna post 2 videos. The first one is on Sabre 2 and the second one is on Katana. 11. Thanks, I would have to agree. Jeff I was sure that you are involved in the design Thanks, they work fantastic Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. 1. Finish the design of my own H&C system. 2. Find a way of legally jumping it. 3. Stay away from the incident statistic. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  13. P.S. riggerrob: you are paying too much for batteries. Try MEC, they sell Panasonic CR123A's for $5 each - that's $10 for a set.*** I think that Rob is adding the price for the work as well. I don't know a rigger who does the replacement for free Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. When talking about a new product, the price for the materials and the labor is only one part of the end price of the product. Don't forget about the R&D costs Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  15. Why fixing something which is not broken Oh,wait....fashion I know:) Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. This is exactly my point. But if the manufacturer say so,we better follow .Otherwise like riggerrob is saying we gonna stand alone in the court Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  17. The one not in production since march 2003? ***Batt low? well that just speaks for itself. I have seen all brands give a low battery warning after just a few jumps. Sometimes batteries are not stored well and the AAD manufacturer can't control these things*** 100% agree with you ***each repack? well from the number of units I see that people have failed to follow the annual change I can see why they would prefer each re-pack.*** The people failed to follow the year replacement will fail the repack cycle as well. I can't see how it's possible for somebody in Spain( I think that they are on 1 year repack cycle) to replace his batteries once a year and still make 499 jumps, but for somebody who just had his repack done a week ago and only 5 jumps after,he now will have to pay again for batteries replacement. Doesn't make any sense does it? ***Cost? well I can't speak for other countries but here in Australia where things are more expensive quite often I can replace the batteries in an Argus during its service cycle for the same costs or even a little less as it would be for a Vigil or a Cypres1 so I don't see any real issue there. I also don't have to tie up as much money in stock as I do with Vigil or C1 power units if I want to stock them for my customers.*** Again I agree with you. Having Argus batt in stock is easier than having Cypres 1's or Vigil's batt. I don't want to go into another discussion which AAD is best and why. I'm just pointing out that there's a manual update. Yes,I'm not happy with it,but the live is not perfect Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  18. Now we have to change the batteries at each repack, 500 jumps, after activation or "batt low" on the display. "The batteries are to be replaced at each repack of the reserve parachute, after each activation, every 500 jumps, or when the Argus displays «Bat Low», which ever comes first." (page 9 ) I'm sure that they have their own reasons for that. I just wanted to point this out to the riggers who are going to pack reserves with Argus AAD. As a user I was just thinking about the end price of the unit over the time frame of let say....12,5 years. This is going to be way more expensive than Cypres 2. In the best case scenario, this will be 24 times(if you never chop) the price of the new batteries. The cheapest battery I found around is 7 euro. And I need two. Don't be surprised that my 2 AAD's are now in the classified section Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  21. That's exactly what we were using in Bulgaria till 2009. Then the people in charge thought that the lead seal is better than a piece of paper "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  22. I don't think that this test can be done. It really depends of many things. The condition and material of the BOC pouch, size and material of the PC,the way the PC is folded. The design of the pull out pud. How tight the container is....etc...I would say that they are equally good,if they are maintained well. 23. 5 months. Two times a week X 3h. BUT...at the end,I was able to pack my main and RESERVE Oh,and the government paid for it blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
