I have never seen Javelin with cut in laterals and single piece leg pads, but the third picture was really clear :) "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Interesting. I double checked the TSE manuals, which seem only to say that their rigs "should" be returned for inspection after 10 years. In other words, I'm free to ignore TSE; there's no mandatory limit. Of course you can ignore them. But at the end of the day, you are the one signing the papers. I'm not touching anything from TSE older than 15 years without re certification. Period. http://www.thomas-sports.com/index.php?option=com_contact&view=contact&id=1&yt_color=blue Just call them and hear what they have to say on that matter

Does F-111 typ material age even though not being used?
Deyan replied to anj4de's topic in Gear and Rigging
True. But how many riggers have the tools to measure the permeability of the fabric? "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Check if it's with soft or hard housings. Soft= NOT good ETA Thomas Sport has 15 years life limit on their products. Extension with 5 years is possible after factory inspection. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

On Jarno's picture it looks like the bridle is wrapped around the plastic pipe. If the PC was still collapsed, you can't see the handle and the fabric. You will be seeing only the mesh and just a bit of the fabric. If I have to bet, I'll put money on the bridle wrapped around the handle. P.S. I'm not a wingsuit pilot, but malfunction is a malfunction, right? "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I'm just curious how many flight hours one should have before he can take a small format camera on a flight "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Not really. If you make any altitude corrections, the altitude for those corrections will stay on the display until you make that jump ( or 14h ) Check pages 19 and 20 of the Cypres manual for more details on that one. I don't see any disadvantages , but I see one small advantage. When the rig is packed, you CAN see IF the loop is going trough the cutter of the AAD

Cutaway handle with cable coming out both ends?
Deyan replied to ineed2fly's topic in Gear and Rigging
10 years ago I was working on a similar project. At that time i couldn't find any paragliding pilot who was willing to cutaway his canopy, in order to get his reserve out. They rather try their single point, center line reserves. So we just decided that finishing the project was not worth it. It's good to see that the time has changed -
Do MARD Components require TSO Certification?
Deyan replied to JohnSherman's topic in Gear and Rigging
Kelly, I agree whit what you are saying. However if the main fail to extract the freebag, reserve PC will probably be facing upside down for the first stage of the deployment. Eventually will take over and finish the deployment, but is it going to be in the 3 second or 300 ft?! Maybe, or maybe not. We don't know. It wasn't tested that way. As for the .5 % failure of the Skyhook, I don't think it's real. I've seen it fail twice. And I haven't witnessed 1000 reserve rides. But we have to be realists. Do you think they can sell 15 000 Skyhooks if they are giving the real data "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
I know that Vigils are prone for misfires. If you look at that link http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=vigil+misfire&nfpr=0 you will see few other videos. However the posted video from Abedy is called "Vigil fire- Status otkaz" . Status is the rig's model and "otkaz" from Russian means FAIL or MALFUNCTIONED. It looks like a Vigil cutter, but no hard prove that it fired that low. Another possibility is that it fired when it had to,but because of the location of the cutter ( under the spring) the RPC had troubles clearing the flaps. Do MARD Components require TSO Certification?
Deyan replied to JohnSherman's topic in Gear and Rigging
John, can you answer these questions in regards to Racer/Tandem Racer. For the first 3 questions he doesn't have to answer. Those questions were asked because the malfunctioned main actually plays the role of the reserve PC on systems with MARD. To replace the reserve PC with the malfunctioned main, you have to know what pull force this main can produce in the worst case scenario. The 4th question he answered like more than a year ago http://www.jumpshack.com/%5Cread%5Ctech/Reserve_Bag_Extraction_Forces.pdf "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -

Reserve temporary entanglement with reserve bridle (?) incident
Deyan replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
What about this one. The jumper is spinning on his back , right?! So what if he tumbles trough the bridle,or catches the reserve PC with, leg, arm whatever, or not even that. The bridle wraps around a flap. Just for a split second. But the jumper is still spining and since the pin is out, what is holding the freebag in the rig?! Only the tightness of the reserve, right?! So It is possible that in that kind of malfunction you can have 5-6 G's, which I think is enough to get that freebag out of the rig even without any pulling from the Skyhook or from the reserve PC. At that point the jammed bridle,Reserve PC or whatever held the whole system brake lose and the race between the freebag and the rest of the mess started. Because the reserve PC at that point was under the freebag it wrapped around the lines. Then the red lanyard broke , and the rest we saw in the video. Just a thought "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
My experience with Sonic's customer support is totally different than yours. I'm not going to tell my story here, but lets just say that I'm not going to order anything from them anymore. IF it works as a MARD ( which so far in many occasions is not the case ) It will save you between 100 and 150 ft. On the other hand if you watch this video you will see that some rigs can get your reserve out as fast as MARD will do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il735eAFyw8 "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

You can become a tandem master with 500 jumps and 0 minutes in the tunnel, but you can't do it with 300 jumps and 100 hours tunnel time. As for the BEST teams training in the tunnels......only the ones in free fall disciplines (excluding the wingsuiters) "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

According to some witnesses the reserve PC was seen "for some time "trailing behind the jumper, and the jumper himself said that :"My harness (Vector) did slide up on my body about 6 inches after that opening" When do you think that the reserve PC jumped out?
