Preflight parachutte check: visual reference?
Deyan replied to Namowal's topic in Safety and Training
Are you sure that you are not talking about the main loop? I don't think that any wear on the reserve loop is acceptable. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Excellent job man Don't give up!!! P.S. You have done better job packing that Racer ,than 80 % of the riggers (including myself )who are using their legs !!! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

From Vigil 2 manual page #21 Every time you buy some life saving equipment, READ and UNDERSTAND the manual. All best "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I've seen flipped risers on the packing floor many times. What I'm surprised to hear is that a "supervised" packer will pack it this way and a so called TM will gear up, board the plane and then jump without checking himself or without the problem being spotted by the video jumper. I hope that they have sent you a bottle of your favorite drink together with their TM rating. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

True. But I asked you before, I will ask you again. How is Collin's lanyard going to help if you don't have a load on the left side risers? The release cable will be out, but the riser will still be there and you still gonna have a possibility for a "major complication" That's one. And second, how about the lanyard releasing the left side risers when not need it? (Chicago incident) It's a major complication as well, right?! I think that the Collin's lanyard will save you from problems ONLY if you have a broken RSL side risers on opening. Thumbs up for that. Now the question is how many correctly made and in good shape broken risers you have seen the last 10 years? The truth is, what might save you in one situation it might kill you in another. And one more question. How many reports do you have from the field where Skyhook didn't work as MARD? I have seen 6 chops with a Skyhook. in 2 of them ( spinners) the Skyhook disconnected before it pulled the freebag out of the rig. And I have seen some other videos with the same outcome. What is the real ratio of Skyhook not performing as a MARD? As for the personal preference, you will not see me or my girlfriend jumping a Skyhook equipped rig. Don't forged that in the Chicago incident, the reserve PC had 4000ft to create enough drag to release from the hook, but it fail to do so. Without the Skyhook he would have had a two out which is better than the main riser disconnect at 200 ft. In my opinion every MARD design where the reserve PC need more pull force to break lose from the system, than it can generate from the launching or from the weight of the reserve PC it's a incident waiting to happen. I like the simple things. They work best. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

MLW of 21 How large/small of a harness can I get away with?
Deyan replied to acaamano's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't know where you go that math, but you don't need a 21" MLW. If you did find that formula somewhere, it was probably based on measurements 20 years ago when guys wore their pants higher on their waist. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2105518;search_string=mlw%20measurements;#2105518 According to the same formula, mine MLW should be 15" and that's exactly what I'm jumping now "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
It takes only a pair of boobies to make most of the "safety freaks" unaware of what's going on....Most, but not all I need more than that to see that the RSL was disconnected all the time. If the "purpose" of the video was to test the ability of the jumpers to spot gear relates problems when distracted, where is my award??? If the unit fires, "Replc Cutter" message will appear on the display. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
Yeah, sorry for the bad picture, but you've got the idea. The two loops are from a small diameter line and they both go trough a single cutter. The standard CYPRES line is 2.3 mm when fingertraped. The small diameter line for LOR loop is only 1.5 mm. So two loops will have just a bit more flesh for cutting. I can' talk about other cutters, but I've seen CYPRES cutter to make a clean cut on 2 loops from the standard line with no tension on the loops, so I think that with the small diameter line the outcome will be the same. As for "pins interfere with each other", I've never heard about that happened somewhere......but that doesn't mean that it never happened or it will not happen. I don't buy that one. Collins' Lanyard is simply pulling the left side release cable. It has nothing to do with the left riser leaving. What is Collins Lanyard going to do if the release cable is already pulled, but the left riser is still connected to the rig?! That's right....NOTHING. The ONLY RSL system I know that make sure the reserve pin stays on it's place until the BOTH risers leave is the French LOR2. Blue skies ETA Might want to check out user names before replying. I have....and..?! Just because he say so doesn't make it written in stone, right? Just for the record. I have respect for Bill Booth and his knowledge, but in this case I think that he is wrong. He said that Collins Lanyard is designed to prevent reserve activation until the BOTH risers release. Now, English is not my native language, but my understanding of the word "release" is that something is going to be separated from something else. Is that correct? In case that this is right, my statement stays. Collins Lanyard has no control over the left side risers except pulling the release cable, which doesn't mean that the riser will go. Therefore you still can have a reserve activation before the release of the left side riser. Who said that this jump was made in Russia or Eastern Europe? The guy asked how long before we see a TANDEM BASE. He didn't say anything about a specific place. + 1....Bob is cool "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Both rigs have the same amount of flaps ( 4 ) above the RPC. If you don't like the idea of having flaps above the RPC you should go for full pop top (Racer or Tear Drop). "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
