[reply Approved for Precision's Reserve ONLY & for Precision's Main canopies. Hi Shlomo, Are you sure that "Wrap it" links are approved for reserve different than "R-Max" ? Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

What makes PD Slinks better than this "Wrap-it" link? If you don't tack PD "Slink", you might end up with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sAr8PiJiVI "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. But the question is : "If it's approved by the FAA, but not from the manufacturer, is it ILLEGAL" Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. The down side of the articulated harness is that if you don't tighten your chest strap (legstraps as well) , the whole harness can shift quite a lot and in case of a spinning mal, you might not find your handles on the place you expect them to be. That's why is really important to have a harness that fit good. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. Step 1: Take all body measurements according to the manufacturer of the rig you are looking at. Step 2: Send them to the manufacturer together with the serial # of the rig. Step 3: Wait for an answer . Step 4: Buy a beer for your first rig "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  6. It's not only about the body size. I think that every manufacturer can make you a small rig, if you have small canopies to put in. With that said, I'm 5'5" and my Mirage G4 mxs1/2 is only 16 inches long. I know that the Power Racer is 15 inches long and only 9 inches wide. And that's SMALL Finding the right rig for you can be pain in the ass "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  7. I haven't seen yet a Skyhook saving somebodies life. Have you?! And that means chop, Skyhook worked as a MARD = < 5 seconds canopy ride. Why 5 seconds?! Because the difference between MARD and RSL is 100 ft which is about 5 seconds under open reserve. ( I expect somebody to point out the canopy collision incident from a few years back where the jumper with the Skyhook survived and the one with the RSL died. But until this moment nobody said that they chopped at the same altitude,. So I can't take this as a example) Me too. I'd like to hear how 120sq. ft canopy produced less drag than a meshless PC with 7 inch hole. Maybe is something new I'm not aware of, so I'd like to know. Unlike some people, I'm willing to learn. The truth is that we don't know why Skyhook disconnects. The funny thing is that even Mr. Booth doesn't know why. What we know so far is that it disconnects more often than the company will ever admit. And about the "jealousy" comment from the user under....C'mon dude. Do you really believe that I'm jealous? 8. Hi Chuck, Let me explain better. What we see on these videos are not skyhook deployments. We see normal RSL deployments on Skyhook equipped rigs. Or if I have to say it otherwise , we see Skyhook failing to do it's job. Now, If I have to be honest I'm not really surprised by the Skyhook failures. We know that they happen quite often. What I'm surprised is that those guys paid 250 $ for a safety system, had a failure on that system and didn't even noticed it . Not only that, but assuming that they had the system performing its best, they've made a comment how great the system was. The Skyhook failures are about 10 %. But those 10 % are estimate on situations where the jumper saw it fail. I'm wondering now based on the videos if this percentage isn't much higher. Or even if I'm wrong, even if those 10 % failures are only in my head and the real percentage is let say 5 % (because I don't believe the factory .2 % estimation ) , the question remain. "How is possible to have a safety system with such a high malfunction ratio, and people still go crazy about it ?" The power of marketing! 9. Look at those 2 videos, read the comments and tell me what do you think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90-FDDahVuQ&list=HL1328209421&feature=mh_lolz and http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150255643198247&set=o.64761516148&type=2&theater Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  11. Correct True! But not everyone can afford a new gear. The same DZ, the same plane 10 months earlier. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3990102;search_string=incident%20teuge;#3990102 The rig then was a newer Atom with the pin cover tucked in. 13. I know a story for a guy who did this with his 1 pin Teardrop, that's why I said Racer poptop. My point was that unlike Reflex and Teradrop, Racer has a soft cap and 2 loops......and still they gonna find the way to f@$k it up "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. Fixed for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bv_NqiT7pM I know he did not hit his reserve pin, but the title of this thread is : "reserve activation on the door' right?! And I'm sure that someday somewhere somebody will find the way to jam his Racer poptop cap somewhere, break both loops and end up with an open reserve on the tail of the plane "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  15. Atom "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. Nice job BTW. You might get some different numbers if you put that rig on someone's back. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  18. By saying "master riggers" in quotation marks, you were questioning their knowledge. That's your problem. Beside, you didn't mention where the glue was used. I don't have problems sewing trough a glue. As well as all major harness manufacturers. If they use glue to cut the production time, why I shouldn't do it when doing repairs? That's the way to do it. Plus....If you ever inspect a gear, find some mistake and see my name as the last person who handled that gear, I will appreciate to hear from you. About the "not protecting the hard velcro case" I'll tell you a story from about 5 years ago. I did a repack on Javelin with RSL. The owner asked if I can remove the RSL. I protected the hard velcro with a piece of soft velcro. 6 months later the rig came back WITHOUT the soft velcro piece. I asked the jumper where is the velcro and he said that he removed it because he was afraid that the "extra" piece will make the riser covers pop open in freefall. Now, the question is :"What was going to happen if the guy brought his rig to you for the next repack instead of coming back to me?" This is a real example. That's why I sad "they might know something you don't"..... No hard feelings.....I thing that we are on the same side and we want the same things. Which are safe gear, less mistakes, piece ,love and a wining lottery ticket "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  19. Thanks Exactly what I meant ! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  20. DO NOT question the work or the judgement on somebody with higher rating than yours ONLINE . If you have any questions and concerns, give them a call. That's the right way to do it. They might know something you are not aware of !!! Not talking about this particular case. I'm talking in general. Pointing out someone's mistake doesn't make you look more knowledgeable. If you think that ( when rigging )you have never made or you will never make a mistake, you are bullshitting yourself. DO the right thing especially when nobody is watching "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  21. Wanna bet? Or just call Jo Oosterveer for more info on that. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  22. Let me GUESS.... your rigger ALSO happens to BE a gear dealer AND ..... he sells reserves!!!!!!! just guessing... jmy If the national rules say 20 years, the rigger has to follow these rules. Period. There's no need for discussion. "Yeah, but yesterday was fine so what's wrong today ?" Or you are saying that every time a rigger declare piece of gear as "un airworthy " he or she is trying to sell something extra? In that case I hope you trust your rigger more than that!!! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  23. I have seen main PC's from all major manufacturers build that way occasionally. Right now I have one from Eclipse and one from Javelin build the same way in my room. All main and reserve PC's from Basic Air I've seen so far were build the same way. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  24. Tell that guy to keep his fingers from under the presser foot and the needle and he will be fine....we hope "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  25. Speed 150 fits OK in I3. Speed 135 will be soft. My experience with both reserves shows that they pack about the same. I still have the feeling that Speed packs a bit smaller than Optimum. Speed 120 ~ Optimum 113 Speed 135 ~ Optimum 126 Speed 150 ~ Optimum 143 Speed 170 ~ Optimum 160 I don't have an experience with their bigger sizes.
