I can't believe you missed the Roaming DZ Destin beach jumps!
RastaRicanAir replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
Gosh, that's funny. I was wearing Tevas, and I managed to stand up four in a row. In fact, they broke on the first one and I didn't even notice until the end of the end of the day. The sand must have been a different consistency ten feet away where you were landing. P.S. Thanks for scaring the silicone out of my co-worker and her three small children. I can only imagine the nightmares those little girls are having right now about Shrek falling from the sky and crushing them like bugs. On behalf of the small but select group of lucky souls who crammed into the Montero last Saturday and headed out to jump the point on Destin beach: "Big Ups" to Spence and Roaming DZ www.roamingdz.com for setting up such a kick-ass weekend. Not only did I personally rack up too many beer vouchers to even list here, but I got to experience another one of those times where you realize no matter how great skydiving has been to you so far, there's still a whole sky-full of even cooler times you haven't had yet. I think among the highlights (other than the incredible view of course) had to be: getting cheers and airhorns from 200 bar patrons and boaters after every landing, having whuffos gush about how much we entertained them all day (next time we have GOT to put out a tip jar!), and of course hanging out afterward with the illlustrious members of the Eglin Yacht Club (a.k.a. the Cast of Cocoon 3). I've always wondered what wealthy WWII veterans and their 55-year-old old trophy wives drank while lounging on their 60' yachts. Now I know: $6-a-bottle Andre Spumante. In carefully counted plastic flutes. All thanks due to Chris for being a great ringmaster to our little circus (better put some aloe on that burn buddy), to Wendell for busting ass to get us in the air an hour after he said he had absolutely had to leave, and to Lurch the waiter and that helmet-haired "singer/guitarist" at McGuire's for providing us with endless amusement (at their expense) during dinner. We'll have to do it again soon. Of course, now that I've gone and screwed it up by making everyone else want to come we'll need two planes. -

Well, as usual, I'd hate to brag. But between Static Line John "Astaire," the Hermano formerly known as "Mack Daddy Tom," and a certain wavy haired "Cuddly Bear" who shall humbly remain nameless, I must say you would be hard pressed to find a more suave or charming dropzone clientele than this. Indeed, it's safe to say we never let a lady go home feeling unwelcome, unappreciated ....or uninebriated. And we never make them fetch us a beer. (In fact the single ladies don't even get a chance to fetch their own.) -
True, they are the Monsters of O.G. Punk-a-Billy, and their Ring Of Fire cover is a classic. Unfortunately, I just recently got back to the emotional point where I can listen to their music again. Warped Tour stop in Panama City back in my more sycophantic "fan boy" days, me and some friends wrangled an invitation into the backstage weenie roast area. Putting mustard on my weenie, look up, standing next to me loading up on the onions is Mike Ness. (Should you ever need to distinguish him from half the guys in his audience, look for the sparrows tattooed on either side of his neck.) So it took me a good 20 minutes to work up the nerve to say: "Hey, how ya' doing, I really dig your stuff." And we was a total dick! Reluctantly shook my hand but wouldn't even make eye contact. Of course I was wearing a t-shirt with a big corporate radio logo on it, so maybe it was just a punk thing. In any event, I was heartbroken but I learned to never idolize anybody again (Unless they're dead. Johnny Cash is the f***ing MAN!). Anyway, thanks for letting me prattle on like a disillusioned schoolgirl. It was therapeutic. Hmmm, "Ever met an idol who turned out to be a complete tool?" Could be a good topic for a new thread. -I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die. http://www.johnnycash.com/billboard.htm

Not only that, she also seems to be of that extremely rare breed of people who are always right. (It sounds like bragging, but it's actually a curse. One that I myself know all too well.) E.G.: ***Huh? Everyone knows the sunset load is for the trackers. Indeed. You've got all day to hold hands or plunge headlong toward the ground like a big, sqhuishy lawn dart. But when the horizon turns gold I say get your feet out and your head up. Last one to the end of the sky buys the beer. -

Being that this is my first boogie in the place where I was born as a skydiver, that I will be largely responsible for maintaining the atmosphere of the party, and that I intend to make it my personal duty to make all of our visitors feel at home, I would REALLY appreciate it if we could stay focused on the subject at hand, and avoid sidetracking this thread with accusations, implications and rumor mongering. Yes, Lee started this thread, but if I may be so bold, I've expended almost as much effort to keep it going, and building, for the simple reason that: I love my fellow skydivers, and I love to see people I love having a good time. I'm not trivializing anyone or their feelings. No one who knows me can question how I feel about each of the people on my dropzone, or how I feel about possible issues between them. But I won't be discussing it on this particular post, if any. In my short time of hearing skydivers repeatedly characterized as a family, I've learned it's basically true. And therefore I'm not surprised that -like my own family- we find it instinctually challenging to mind our own business. I'm not trivializing that either. It's that same instinct that keeps us watching each others backs from the door to the ground, and throughout the days. But, just like with family, if there is an issue between a particular number of people on a particular dropzone, it's probably better dealt with by the IMMEDIATE FAMILY FIRST, then maybe by others as they are invited into the discussion. Of course, I also understand that we are a breed not renowned for keeping our thoughts to ourselves. In fact, I was of that breed long before I ever set foot on a dropzone. So if you absolutely can't restrain yourself from making what has been characterized as an "internal" issue public, I ask and urge you to make use of another thread ... Strike that, skymama's suggestion is even better: ...so that we can keep using this one for it's original purpose: promoting what some of us have worked -and will continue to work- very hard to make sure is the best and most enjoyable boogie possible. I look forward to seeing as many of you as can possibly be here. And once again, if you have any particular music you must hear to make your Saturday night complete feel free to (in fact, it would be a big help if you) place your requests early at fullspectrumentertainment@earthlink.net One Love, -RR -
Whenever I'm a little down, I always try to remember the old story of the Siamese twin whose brother is gay and his boyfriend is coming over and they share the same a**hole.

Perhaps I'm just reading between the lines, but did you: Snoop Dicky Dawg The #1 Most-Jet-Li-Ass-Kickin'est-Bar Manager in ALL of North Florida and indeed South Georgia proper as well just invite everybody down to Bullwinkle's (Voted "Best College Bar in the Nation" by Playboy magazine, and "Best Place to get a Piece of Tail" by the listener's of the Robby Robb show) for a free round on Friday night? 'Cause that would be REALLY COOL! P.S. Get a REAL job that lets you jump on the weekends! Watch and learn young Grasshopper. Oh wait, you're married, it's too late for you. O.K. watch, learn and take notes to pass on to your son someday. Meantime, work on getting me out of my overpriced insurance policy and into a new one with you. For you are, after all, the finest insurance agent in Tallahassee. Wow. Y'know? Normally I would take a little more time and make my own choice on someone to fill such a prestigious position. But I have to admire your boldness in just outright claiming me like that. Such chutzpah won't go unrewarded. (Also, a very clever choice since it virtually ensures you won't have to pay for a single ) OrFunV/LocoBoca Rodriguez/Sonic Grieco/Muff Brother #4411 -"and ladies....messin with Robbie is venturing into territory you cant even imagine!-cuz Robbie is -

For your convenience, here's the Expedia page with all the available hotels for the weekend: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll?qscr=htwv&from=m&stat=1&khst=1&locn=Tallahassee&ploc=Tallahassee&loid=&date1=9/17/2004&date2=9/20/2004&cadu1=1&cAdt1=1&ckdr1=0&rfrr=-905 Those of you whose lifestyles demand more cushy lodgings had better make like a sailor at 'last call' and get into whatever's left. The rest of you gas up the RV, hose out the tent, or let us know if you need to be sheltered by one of us so we'll have time to put away the porn and count the silverware. (No point marking the liquor bottles when they're just going to get emptied all at once.) I would also urge my homies to offer up the sofa, futon, other side of the bed, or whatever space they can spare. I don't know, I'm just a mild mannered teddy bear. Of course, I did my very first AFF jump with two women. If they've got something more intimidating than that, I'd be curious to see it. And don't worry Cindy, even if there were such a "casino" -which of course is just a fun term we use for our weekly pinochle game- and even if some of us were involved -which of course would be baaaaddd mmmmmkay?- we would NEVER implicate YOU. Even though the ADD would make it fun to watch you to testify: "I'm sorry your honor, what was the question again?" ...Hey, that's an awesome robe! Where'd you graduate from high school?..." HOLY SH*T! You're right dude! That is the weekend of the first home game. A monster posse of jumpers kickin' it on the Tennessee Strip the night of the home opener? I JUST GOT A CHILL UP MY SPINE! Gentlemen, I strongly suggest you remember to wear your closing pins. Even if you somehow fail with our local talent (proudly featured on several editions of Girls Gone Wild) you should have no trouble impressing all the Ellie Maes from Birmingham. (NOTE: Please be on your best behavior when dealing with the locals. I have many connections in some of our finer establishments which can be beneficial to us. But if you end up in a bouncer's headlock or the back of a blue & white, I've "never seen you in my life.") On the downside. this also means there will be NO HOTEL ROOMS AVAILABLE ANYWHERE. You may still have a chance if you get on Expedia or something RIGHT NOW. But if necessary, I've got all kinds of carpet space, a screened patio and a spare bathroom with a shower that hasn't been used in at least a year. (I don't entertain much.) But if you've got a bedroll we'll see what we can work out. ALLERGY WARNING: Cat on premises And, like I said on the bonfire thread, those of you who get here by Friday afternoon may get to join a bunch of us on my radio show to show all of my whuffo listeners what they're missing out on. ...This beast just keeps on gettin' bigger! Some people can get soooo jealous of us eligible bachelors when they're about to sign away their own precious freedom for a Green Card. Come to think of it, you do look kind of like Gerard uh I mean, Gerrard De Pardieu. And don't think I don't know what happened to that last Hungry Man dinner I left in the freezer of the RV, you vacuum cleaner with teeth!! Anyway, you're right about the radio thing. Those who get here early enough on Friday, and whom I deem entertaining enough (or want to impress) may have a shot at being real live radio celebrities. But that's a matter for another thread. Good point, gambling is baaaddd mmmmm-kay? So we'd better play with something besides money. .....Hmmmmm, are "skydives" considered a legal form of currency? Just something to think about. ...On second thought, F*** IT! Cash is King! And if the lovely skymama truly needs a beer or other beverage, I might be persuaded to bring her one ...as long as I'm going to the bar anyway, I mean, I'm not a damned cocktaill waitress! Y'know, with friends like these, who needs cancer?! I mean, do I deserve this? Isn't it bad enough that they edited out my want ad for cocktail waitresses to work the casino party? I mean it wasn't a REAL ad. It's not like we were really gonna pay 'em! Now I'll have to keep going to the fridge to get my own beers! That's true, I was also blown away by how totally welcoming and friendly everybody was. In fact, ALL of us want to thank EVERYBODY who spent time talking to Brandy.
