  1. Get printable DVD Rs, and either an epson or canon CD printer, and youre set to go - professional looking DVDs at a bargain price !! Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  2. NICE photos on the site. there is a bit of a distortion, but theres no way to compare that withe the full distortion you see on a 35mm. I like the sigma 15mm , looks very good, I'm considering that one as well when the time comes. Thanx Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  3. The only thing with the 10D though is that you have a crop factor of 1.6 making the 15mm lens into a 24mm lens (also should reduce the fisheye effect - since the 10D sensor crops out the outer area of the lens (where the fisheye is most noticeable)) does anyone have any experience with this lens and a 10D (specifically) and not a film slr? (I think that was the original post question ...) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  4. how heavy is the canon lens? how big is it ? (I'm looking for a wide angle myself) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  5. I did hear and read that AMD processors are not on the "compatibility" list of adobe, avid, and some other brands, but check to see which cpu they refer to. I've had my dual MPs for 2 years now , in which I've upgraded from Premiere 6.5 to Avid Xpress Pro with not a single problem with either. I'm also running AE, and recently started working with Encore (which is ok , but not much more) with again - not a single issue ever. I know for sure that older AMD cpus have issues (lots of them) but the MP are pretty stable and reliable (and so I've heard of the XP). again - I think all you need with your setup is to add/replace your memory and boost it up, and add a secondery drive for captueing footage. as far as processor power - if you're on a budget - I really dont see a reason to replace the entire unit. 6. slow enough to freeze ? my first editing PC was a PIII-733Mhz, with 256Mb or ram .... never froze on me. dunno. 1.8 Ghz with 600Mb of ram seems quite adequate for me (although for effects you might wanna go full blast with RAM). If you're looking for cheap ways to get a strong computer - my best bet for you is to buy the components and build it yourself - also consider AMD Athlon MP/XP CPUs (I'm running a dual AMD MP with 512 MB and its running perfectly) again - if you're experiencing issues with your current setting (which I dont believe you should) try to figure out why it's happening ? are you running other tasks (outlook ... word... whatever ... just guessing) simultaniously ? those editing apps like to be left alone, and use all the resources you can give them. try to clean up your computer - also defrag your harddrive (you ARE using a separate harddrive for captured footage right ?). hope this helps. 7. I think it's all a matter of opinion/taste/requirements, and mere luck - some find a good canon cam, some find a good nikon cam, and some find bad ones, most people will generalize the brand according to the few models they have encountered. Some will like this more then that, some will like the oposite. I have a Nikon Film SLR, a Nikon Coolpix, and the Canon 10D - only because for each application I find the certain brand more appropriate. I dont think one is "much better" then the other. no need to add to the CanonNikon war... too much already Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  8. Still keeping the D100 structure- and no remote plug .... no regrets with my 10D - a great tool to get you where you want (and tool is all it is) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  9. It depends - If I do a project for a client. then I'd put in the proposal a designated Harddrive for the client- and use that harddrive for capturing (160-200Gb) after the project is done. I simply store the HD away with a sticker and name of the client and project (all captured clips) - I use avid, so in the Project all those clips go offline- and when I reconnect that harddrive they come online again. If I dont have a designated HD - I just delete the clips, and when needed, I just digitize the tape again (again -avid will get the cilps offline- and when you recapture then, will go to the timecode, and capture each clip from head to tail for ya) Other then that - I think backing up to DVDs is a waste of time and media. my 2 cents. 10. we are all like whores, we'll give for free what the magazines want - cause we know ,and they know that if it's not me - it's someone else. there are sooo many good photographers and soo many good pictures out there - that they dont really have to put much effort to find the "right photo". It's somewhat of an ego trip, and the magazines know it, and use it wisely. I doubt it'll change in this sport. but come on - it's all good - we're one big family - and we share our visions with each other. now show my any other sport that is so tight ? 11. on which video track is the text title, and on which video track is the background still image ? the Text title should be on a higher video track so that the Still image track wont cover it up. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  12. When I started out I was using a PIII-733Mhz with 256MB memory. had no problems running Adobe Premiere 6 on it - it handled it pretty well. another thing that you need to put into consideration - since this is a laptop that you have - is the harddrive speed - anything below 7200 might affect capturing from Firewire, or Playing back over Firewire. download the trial version of Premiere from Adobe and give it a run, see how your machine handles it Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  13. Yes , Vegas Video should work, although I only took a quick look at it but never actually used to to edit- I hear many good things about it. simple to use (compare to other NLE software out there) and (hence) it's learning curve is faster compared to other solutions out there. just out of curiousity - what version are you refering to ? (by the way - sony just bought the product from it's original developer SonicFoundry) for more questions about Vegas Video - check out this forum : Vegas Forum on CreativeCow.net Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  14. You would need: 1. a Firewire Card 2. a Firewire cable (to connect the camera to the PC) 3. a video editing software (that will allow you to import/capture the video from the camera to the PC) 4. Patience to learn how to work with the software just my 2 cents. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  15. agree 100%. But like I wrote, and I still carry the same thought - IP or better yet - MicroDV is not "there" yet today. But it's moving in the right direction. Then again - you have Panasonic, that already have an HD camera operating tapeless !!! directly to magazines of SD cards. So , maybe we wont ever need MicroDV , or any other tape format in the near future. Still waiting for the non-moving-parts miniHD camera (it's coming ... its coming) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  16. Check out Sony's website- they have the new IP1 -with Firewire support - It's still no MiniDV so I doubt if you can firewire cam-to-cam with a miniDV (although I'm not 100% sure you cant) it's still all good for NLE ! - I wouldnt go ahead yet and get one, but it's getting there (keeping my PC9 for now...) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  17. IKEA they have some nice really cheap frames - most are non standard size - so some cropping are in place - but it's all good Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  18. it's going up and up, I personally wouldnt wanna put all my eggs in a LARGE single basket. I'd rather archive it over several smaller harddrives, or DVDs (DVD-9 are coming up not too far in the future, and some other optical discs are about to be declared...) but it IS cool that we're getting there. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  19. yep, the transition is in motion. rumors have it that Nikon announced that it will stop manufacturing Film cameras. Nikon actually came and denied that rumor, but the rumor has been growing pretty strong since. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  20. what did you export it too? AVI ? quicktime? at what compression (sounds to me like no compression at all) just for the record - 1min of DV quality footage is about 200MB - and NO - you can't put that on a DVD - you need to compress it to MPEG2 format which can go to about an Hour for 2 Gig (depends on the compression you use) Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  21. 15 hours for an 18 min project ?!? what are your computer specs? what kind of CPU do you have ? how much memory ? Even with my older HP PIII 700MHz and 300MB of ram it would never take that long to render something so short .... Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  22. I'm sure you'll find that sony miniDV are an all-around good cameras - depending on your needs - the PC versions for side mounting, or the TRV for top mounting. the MicroDV are much smaller - but are not compatible with other Firewire devices ... so if you get one of those you're pretty much on your own - whereas with a miniDV everyone in the DZ can dub for you, or help you in needs (tapes, etc) I hear some Canon cameras are doing ok, while others seem to have an issue with the image stabilizer. STAY AWAY FROM JVC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (did I stress this enough ?!?) hope this helps. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  23. you cannot import premiere projects into DVD authoring apps like myDVD. what you need to do is export a movie file from Premiere (an AVI file, a QUICKTIME file) and import that movie file to myDVD I'm not sure if myDVD will transcode regular AVI or QUICKTIME movies to DVD mpeg files - but if not - you'll have to do this step manually. (but I think that myDVD WILL do that step automatically for you) hope this helps. let me know if you need anything else. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  24. I have a few more questions: on top of what OS you're running ... and what CPU you're using (type and speed) What kind of Harddrive are you using ? and are you using different harddrives for capturing footage, and diferent harddrive for your OS and applications ? there are alot of factors in NLE that can cause dropped frame, let us know what you've got, and we'll let you know where you might wanna put some efforts into. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  25. Ha, that is so true when you compare it to all digital. it's a world of give and take, the question remains - what do you wanna get? ... There are of course USB1.1 posibilities out there, but again, it's reduction in quality. I guess he'll have to do the trial-and-err kinda thing to see if the different options fit his budget and goals. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
