  1. hey Alvaro, thanx for the photos, it really looks like a sweet box, thats for sure. what helmet do you have this box mounted on? Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  2. I'm in the process of getting the optik, and the only thing that holds me right now is the BH PC style DBox which I REALLY dont like. I dont like it's masive size, nor the fact that it's not camera specific- making it so that the camera will probably move around unless you find a way to tighten it inside. I REALLY like the cookie box, only thing is you need to order it from Australia. I guess I'll have to wait... I'm also checking with some local shops that are willing to built custom boxes. anyone has anything to say about the cookie boxes? any bad experience ? any good ones ? Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  3. is your camera securely held in the dbox/L bracket/whatever you use to hold it ? did you bold the camera down with the tripod screw? or just put it in the box and closed the lid? not having the screw might cause wobbling. (depending on the situation) is your camera on manual focus (it should) or did you leave it on auto focus ? just some questions to give the rest some more info to help you with. 4. why dont you ask Rawa ? (seems logical to me) email: rawa@rawa.com.br Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  5. yeah, I'm familiar with NLE systems as I've been working with them for over 3 years now (lookie at my video) but even if you have a designated video editor on the DZ, it will still be a huge overhead producing a DVD with such a system, in comparison to a linear editing station think about it - for every student you will need to: IMPORT -> EDIT (yay, you've got some material pre-ready , but still you've gotta edit some stuff) -> RENDER to Mpeg2 -> Import to your DVD authoring app -> Edit that (yay, you've got some menus waiting, but still you have to do some small changes) -> RENDER THAT -> BURN I'm all up for that, but you need to arrange the timing right. you want the clients/students/whoever to be oblivious to this whole procedure, as far as they care - they want the video given to them as they touch the ground. (or maybe 2 minutes later, when they recover) I'd love to hear about DZs that use NLE and how much time it takes them to present the student with the DVD Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  6. I honstly have a VERY HARD TIME believing that people can use NLE system today, and present the students/first timers any product to take home with them. I see in Perris that they use a linear DVD recorder, and do it on the spot. the student goes home with the DVD in 10 minutes after the jump. from what I've seen its pretty basic menus, with a play all, and chapters menu if I'm not mistaken (I havent been around to see too many tandem dvds lately - but I will soon) they put in some default Perris footage at the beginning of each video, but that is standard procedure. the menus are VERY basic (text only) if I'm not mistaken, please correct me if I'm wrong anyone. for what it's worth - i think it's great that we can produce this type of media to the students. NLEs should be kept for End-Of-The-Year videos, or boogie videos. it DOES take a longer time to prepare. for what it's worth , my 2 cents. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  7. another way to do it, is to export the edited movie from premiere to an Mpeg2 file - thus avoiding the double time of -1.exporting the AVI file, and 2.transcoding it to mpeg in another application. this way you can import your mpeg file that you created to any dvd authoring application and it will not need to recompress it. 8. I like the fact that the 10D is magnesium allow body, whereas the Rebel is pure plastic. BUT, on the other hand - it DOES make the rebel much lighter, which is a nice feature to have. I have the 10D and LOVE IT, but have friends with the rebel, and I havent heard a single complaint about that one either. the 10D will give you some more settings for photographing, but I'm not sure if any of them is releavant to skydiving. not to mention the price difference. also the Rebel can mount the new line of lenses that canon is coming up with. and like mentioned in a previous post- the buffer and speed on the 10D is bigger. stop and think what you need this camera for, and if the rebel is sufficient - get it. if you would NEED the added features in the 10D, get that one instead. 9. are you planning on coming here for the nationals? that would be saweet bro. edited to ad: man, looking at that document - theres yet so much to do, so little time.... yikes... maybe in a FEW YEARS for me. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  10. before you do any physical changes with your body to go into a HD .... you've gotta do it mentally - think HD envision yourself in the potision. then just close your body into whats called the "natural position" (kind of like the sit, only with your body all closed up like a ball) and let yourself fall head first .... to start with, keep your hands close to your body, as so that they will not interfere with the natural HD orientation, and spread your legs as much as you can. this will make your body in the shape of a badmington ball, and will force your body into a HD. most important - keep your mind on "being HD" ... dont try to make it happen, just relax, and let it happen. once you mentally get it, HD is the easiest position to get into (now stay in control, thats another lesson) hope this helps. 12. just been to sonystyle.com. and it seems like the LANC port is optional ?!? (it's marked as "accessory"). not sure about that one, since I havent really seen it yet, but it's another MAJOR point to check up on. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  13. didnt work for exporting to tape ?!? and you rendered the entire project ? once you render the project, the ouput SHOULD be the same wether you output to TAPE, or to MPG... Just curious ... Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.

  21. I think that its a good info resource for people not sure which way to go - I liked the side by side comparison , I've gone through many renditions of movies both in WMV, and Sorenson, just to have the chance to see which one looks better at the end (differs from movie to movie). although I tend to go with WMV at the moment - for smaller file size, and higher quality (so it seems to me) but again - the side by side is what many people can use..., and this is merely 1 arcitle ... theres so much more on the web as for codecs, reviews, and information... dont stop there... Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  22. Its just the way the lens is setup - some lenses have Macro capabilities. yours probably does too. its not a turn-on turn-off kind of a thing. it's just that the lens is capable of focusing in macro situations. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  23. seems like its over cropped, over retouched, or both to be honest. there are alot of noise and digital artifacts espeially in the tracking photos. just curious to see the original of those (feels like it was majorly cropped) since I only get those type of artifacts when I crop BIG TIME, or If I happen to start off with a badly lit original. just from my experience , nothing more. Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
  24. dont forget that youre working on a LAPTOP !!!!! dont ever compare that to a desktop .... I assume Phree's desktop harddrives are 7200rpm ... what is your laptops harddrive speed ? (it's a major factor in rendering time, and ouputing time ....) just a thought ... ha Be Simple, Be Creative, Bee! Sharon.
