Lanky guy looking for advice on containers
talon2 replied to NoValidTitle's topic in Gear and Rigging
JSE.......Thankyou , thankyou ,thankyou ! Finally a lanky guy gets an accurate reply to rig sizing..........Lift webs , yoke 1st . -
NZ manufactured xfires stayed at original specs .Only issues on record related to specs were xfires made elsewhere
-
As well as the riser cover issue. rigs with the rings and risers snug to your shoulders can hang up because the rings will not flip through each other until your shoulders achieve some degree of movement toward the vertical .

Just for information. SOS system designed and patented in Australia and the USA by David Smith of Parachutes Australia in 1979. First production model, PA Pigmee with "Frap Wraps" Quickly superceded by Pigmee 1 with " 3 rings ". Pigmees went from model #1 to #5 and are no longer produced. A couple of US manufacturers produced SOS rigs under license and once the patent lapsed in the US SOS became an option taken up by others. It was identified very early on that the ease of which you could cutaway with SOS compared to 1 and a half shot , 1 shot ,R2s ,Tapewells etc was great for those with time in the sport . In introducing SOS to new or low time jumpers we had to do what all instructors have to do and go back and think "what is it like if I have not done this before". Thus......Clear cables..... Add an RSL...... The skydiving community and certainly the manufacturers have identified the cutaway .....no pull scenario..........They all offer RSLs as an option. Hope this helps . Mike PS......Pros and Cons of TAS , SOS or DOS are another discussion.

A " Punter " is a down under term for someone who gambles / bets on the horses or dogs....."Tandem student " more accurately reflects the Tandem masters who introduce novices to our sport.

PLF s certainly have earned their time in parachuting history.Consider the following......... WW2 jumps into hostile, unprepared territory..at night..with shit hanging off you.....low to very low exit heights....800ft or lower..windspeeds in a lot of cases faster than we would jump our pocket rockets on a good day .......Gymnasts and martial artists all use a vertical conversion to horizontal roll to get up and do it again.......Slide works ONLY if you are inside your " comfort zone" ie landing on the DZ.....IMHO.......Slide if you have the knowledge/experience and know where you are landing(Case in point ,a friend who habitually slid until he encountered an unknown , unseen A/C tiedown that separated his Patella and a significant section of his scrotum and arsehole.............As an instructor I will continue to teach PLFs to my students because I believe the military got it right 1st time and it has kept them( and me ) still playing from roundies through to squares over a good few years
