  1. I put the 96 jvx with sail material in a container that maxes out at a 150. it is great to have a big container with a big reserve.
  2. I have been using both the sail material and the ZP in the same size and trim canopy as well as different sized canopies. The sail material makes a big difference to dive, speed and slow speed flight. it dives more, goes faster and shuts down much better. it is very rigid stuff. all you have to do is pack it once and you will know it is like folding cardboard.
  3. Oh and Grant why didnt you ask someone who doesnt have A.D.D? just kidding love taking digs at peeps today
  4. HEy Grant The 96 JVX is about the same size as a velo 103 actually even a little bit bigger because of different methods of measurements so i am afraid this whole thread has been a waste of your time because it wont be an apple to apple comparison if you jump both. put your go fast 103 in the container for a more accurate comparison.
  5. I am sorry grant but i have retired that shirt because i feel it truly does not bring out the sparkle in my eyes!
  6. it is obviously got everything to do with the pilot if you want proof of this then just look at Ian Drennan. no matter what he is flying he always sux
  7. it is true and i saw it with my own eyes the fat china man rocked everyone in speed on his velo 111. ha ha
  8. i got a few mamba demos out to a dropzone in alabama (Cullman) and every one who jumped one bought one including my fiance. i had not jumped one since it was in the early R&D stage and the two things i could not get over was how well it opened and how powerful the flare was. I have much more jumps on a katana and a few on a xfire2 and the shut down power on the mamba was hands down tons better. my fiance had the same issues with the mamba turning after inflation but she quickly got used to it and now loves it. The main reason she bought one was because she has a weak ankle and the shut down power was kind to her ankle. incidentally i swooped 280 feet through 5 ft gates on the 104 on the first jump i put on it. it is very elliptical and the flight characteristics are reflective of that. just my two cents.
  9. I'm not worried coz Hans Paulson told me that TJ always crumbles under the pressure!!!
  10. Hey Bushman Once again, myself and many I know are impressed with Aerodyne and its products. I look forward to the future of this very dynamic company and what it may bring. Best of luck Paul Rossouw
  11. so to differentiate the two definitions, it is the amount of input required for the canopy to recover that is what deems a speed induced landing to be dangerous or not?
  12. I have a feeling we are going to meet in CO soon and then we can sort out any issues you might have with south africans being gay. the good news is Ian is not gay but he told me he is mighty curious the bad news is he thinks you are mighty cute.
  13. actually they ran out of XL blue shirts. all about hte wingloading man!
  14. the strength comes into play in helping with your technique. over the last few years, i have had several different competition canopies, and the last one in particular has very high riser pressure (relative to the one i had before it). Increasing my strength and muscle memory helped develop my technique in dealing with the riser pressure. does that make sense?
  15. i understand completely. the toggle response is just something to get used to. im not big on toggle turns at anypoint in my flight plan so oversteer from toggle input is not something i am confronted with much. During R&D testing on the mamba i found the oversteer a little more than the katana which is still a lot by most standards. it is not a canopy for everyone. thanks for taking the time to reply.
  16. i did a back to back comparison jumping the kat107 and the mamba104 for 14jumps and i found that the mamba swooped consistently 70-80feet further than the katana. I had a lot more katana jumps at that point and the conditions that day were no winds at sea level. the mamba was a lot more responsive to toggle input and riser pressure was higher. I would be interested to know why you felt it was all down hill after the opening?
  17. Simple solution is to get Demos in 150 sizes from various manufacturers and do a comparison yourself. all canopies are mega swoopable in the right hands. but the flight characteristics will differ. you will know what you like when you try all the options and make an educated decision. you may decide the shorter recovery arc is worth putting up with for really nice openings. riser pressure changes as you downsize but so does your strength when you get in the gym
  18. is selling the closet case Sabre2 170 an option? the sabre 2 is a much steeper trim making for a longer recovery arc. It also has a more aggressively tapered planform than the sabre 1. so dont rule it out until you jump one a few times. The pilot also has great openings for camera work but the trim is a little flatter making for a shorter recovery arc than the same sized sabre2. the Crossfire 2 riser pressure seemed much heavier to me than the same sized sabre2 or pilot. It also has a mega short recovery arc. PM me for more details.
  19. He flew it extremely well. big phat 720s for all three rounds hitting the gates with a ton of speed and accuracy. yup that canopy didnt know what was happening to it. all it knew was that it wasnt in kansas any more!
  20. Skydive Tennessee is located on the beautiful Tullahoma Regional Airport halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga. 300 acres of green grass landing area, walking distance to 8 restaurants and 4 hotels. Sister DZ to Skydive Alabama. This is the closest DZ to Nashville, Chattanooga, and Murfreesboro. The Closest and best Dropzone to Nashville TN!
  21. This is not true at all. It is a completely new design and has nothing to do with the tempo. it actually has more Triathlon design parameters than anything. A very tried and tested planform.
  22. Actually due to differences in measuring the smart 135 is very similarly sized to the pd143. The smart has more reinforcement in places other reserves have tended to blow up. I have jumped both reserves on three rig set ups aswell as hooked up as mains in comparisons from a loading of 1.2 right up to 2.3 and they both have very good openings and landing characteristics although for obvious reasons the higher wingloading is not advisable for practicle application. People tend to be very PD loyal for some reason and I am not here to tell you the smart is better or worse. I have a lot of R&D experience and i will tell you that both are fine products exceeding the required testing parameters. They both have a high resale value if well maintained. The question is not which is better for that is truely subjective. The only question you can really ask is which company do you prefer? and go with who takes care of you better and not necessarily in terms of money. I hope this helps.
  23. [reply- has Jim not competed at a few events, including the 2004 WC, under a JVX? Jim did in fact use the JVX at the WC but did not load up on lead like most others did. He stayed at my house during the comp and bitched about not having enough lead. He still managed 7th place not to mention winning nationals on the same canopy weeks before.
  24. Jim and the daedalus crew are focusing mainly on the JVX right now which is doing an amazing job on the circuit. Finally giving the PD boys a run for their money. The JSX is on the shelf for the near future. If you have any questions about the canopy itself please feel free to PM me. All the best Paul
