Hey Chris Personally i voted for lake wales I just looked at this pole and zhills has more votes than deland. and lake wales has more votes than zhills. surely (also since deland has held the event twice already) this means that the meet should be at zhills and lake wales respectively? Paul

question for Velocity pilots w/ Stiletto experience.
proswooper replied to namdrib's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I completely agree with chuck on this. I have many velo jumps and the openings for me have been very soft 99 times out of 100 but they do search and you have to learn to deal with that, especially if you want to fly video with it. I know many people who have a velo as a ' working ' canopy and are videographers but as chuck says the key to this is to DEMO DEMO DEMO. their demo program is very friendly. they will send you the canopy to keep for two weekends and then simply send it back. just email anabel@performancedesigns.com and she will tell you the rest. I also suggest reading the flying characteristics on PD s website to give you a heads up. They should be very accommodating for you, as you have a stilleto background and most of the velos flying characteristics are compared to the stilleto, www.performancedesigns.com I will attach the pdf or go to their website if it is clicky I wish you all the best with this and stay safe Paul -
Hey D Wings told me they wanted to use a photo of me in the new ad but i havent seen it yet so i will go check it out, PM me and let me know how things are going. All the best to you and greg Paul

not sure how this works but apparantly if you look at the picture for a while you can see a waterfall in the back ground! I think it is a scam. I have had the photo for months and still cant see a waterfall!!

Any reasonable canopy coach will be able to get you into a progression system. They will assess what level you are at. and give you practical advice to improve what you are currently doing and give you info on how to progress on to what they consider the next step. Hopefully keeping in mind the over all objective of what you eventually want to be able to do. Whether it is just landing on a specific point in all conditions, or competing at high level canopy piloting. There should be a progression that is attainable safe realistic and measurable with feedback throughout.

If left too long any swoop can leave you without the lift needed to flair or "shut it down" as some people know. Our pond is 185 feet long in that direction and so far i have not had any problems standing up any of my Lazy Boys. Depending on wind conditions I generally level out with the ground about ten feet bofore the pond starts so that I have the time to start lifting my feet and then bring my body down to the pond. It is fun and is far from imossible to learn for most any one who is going through a reasonable canopy progression system. Learn how to do all the essential basics first !

lets be honest here. its about time you got a velocity!! you guys are great ! i cant wait to see you again!! Thanks Chuck I appreciate that and thanks to everyone on the compliments but I was more aiming at saying that zhills is online and anyone who wants to come get some sick water action on the pond is very welcome. Just my way of getting everyones attention!! hurricanes give the best blow jobs !!

Merci beaucoup mon cher! I miss you guys lots too so get your butts down here and we can do some more stylie hybrid type stuff! best vibes Paul

Chris Hayes has asked for this poll to be posted for all potential competitors and spectators please give us your opinion on where you think the next Florida swoop league round should be held. Please note that lake wales might not be operational in time due to previous hurricane damage. the date and location will be anounced as soon as possible

Recovery Arch - Toggles Vs. Risers
proswooper replied to goose491's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
it is good to have an open mind and please dont read what i am saying as an attack on you at any stage. Ok I am starting to understand more of what you are asking. you are almost comparing apples and oranges because a 90 toggle turn and a 90 front riser turn done in exact same conditions for the exact same length of time should and in my experience does produce different altitude loss. the risers producing more altitide loss. the more speed you have the more lift you obviously have to pull out, but also. if near to the ground you have less time to deal with the altitude loss at greater speeds. for all practical purposes and to more answer your question there are the SAME elements of COMMITMENT in both riser and toggles. ie either way it is dangerous and are going to encounter a certain recovery arc that you should know without a doubt, how much altitude you are going to lose BEFORE initiating either a toggle or front riser hook. and never be below that altitude for that manouver, if you are going to commit yourself to doing any form of higher performance landing then the only comitment you should make is learning the recovery arc of the canopy before ever trying it near the ground. if you are going to do one or the other i suggest (with appropriate experience and proper coaching) using risers only. I hope i have answered what you are asking exactly. take it easy Paul -

Recovery Arch - Toggles Vs. Risers
proswooper replied to goose491's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just looking at your jump numbers, and i apologise if they are substantially more in reality, I dont think you would be in a good position to argue either one of the two sides to that arguement. Theorising is also going to be difficult with inexperience in this area, as any professional or even remotely competant high performance canopy pilot will attest to. my point is your thread is going to be torn apart by some of the more blunt people who read it. if you want info on which is going to create more speed and a longer recovery arc (even just with regards to physics).then look at what the best canopy pilots in the world are doing, with respect to toggles or risers, then ask them why they prefer risers and then re think your arguement.Keep your mind open. all the best and good luck Paul -
Best place to train in october

Zhills has a great pond and everything you will need even have wireless if you want to use your own computer -
QuoteNote: This perspective is not from swooping, but from CReW. While it is true that wake turbulence might move down and behind an airfoil in a flow, you have to remember that your canopy is also descending faster than the wake turbulence, therefore your "effective" wake turbulence is high and above. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you read my post correctly you will realise that i said the same thing. the wake is above and behind due to the decending canopy. thanks Paul
-
Ian I am going to be real nice to you till about fridayish.
-
SPIZZARKO sorry i misread your post and we are saying the same thing. next beer is on me! Paul

I dont think this should be speculated about, as people could walk away from this thread with oncorrect/bad info. I have limited experience in doing high performance team landings and the turbulance/wake effect. for What i have done i got some very specific coaching from regulars. like i said i only have about 20 of these type landings so take with pinch of salt, all were very tight and successful. i have also done many (150+) hop 'n pops at altitude and flown around with my buddies all on cross braced canopies varying from 111 s to 90 s. all were loaded from 1.8-2.4 what i have found is that in the immidiate proximity (up to 75 +feet) behind the 'lead' canopy, there is significant wake. this wake is SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO COLLAPSE A CANOPY. This happen to two people following me on seperate occasions. once in pahokee and once at z hills. (good to laugh at but not funny) in both instances it seemed that my wake was hit from an angle: ie cutting in behind me from one side or another. however i have been following someone directly behind them at about 30 feet and been sitting on/in his wake and felt nothing other than a bit of a bumpy ride. so i GUESS that it depends entirely on HOW you hit the wake. i would also say that, how pressurised your canopy is, will play a part. flying half brakes/ full flight etc. as for the question of where you willl find the wake.. again this is very limited and from my personal experience! but generally it has been above and behind whilst spreading slightly outwards like a flock of ducks following the leader. remember that the canopy is always decending and therefor the wake will be found in roughly the path the canopy has just passed through. when setting up a team landing, i have found the air to be much cleaner if the following canopy is in line vertically but slightly lower on the horizontal plane. do not attempt this without proper training and instruction as there is huge potential for disaster. if you look at the PD factory team they set the lead man up highest and the rest are lower behind him. sorry to contradict you SPIZZZARKO but just watch the factory team video. or come to a comp and see it in person. I hope i have helped but again i re-ascert that my experience is far from the best. PAUL
