Dude, your manifest looks amazing!

Hey, I got lost trying to get from the Prent Bop to the bunkhouse, then I got a bit tired so lay down to nap for a while on a cement slab, then I woke up feeling a bit cold so crawled into the showers to warm up (it was very dark so I felt crawling was safer than walking), then I took a little nap while taking a hot shower, then I got woken up to go fly in the tunnel. I am a serious athlete, nothing comes between me and training.

And at Eloy you can walk to a bigger tunnel. People keep mentioning parties, I think the locals forget that when you fly in from Germany or UK or wherever your main priority is going to be jumping (and possibly some tunnel too) - not parties. You can party in Europe in the middle of winter, it is jumping people miss the most. I live in London, I've jumped in Florida and Az. For me Eloy offers the best value as far as jumping and tunnel go. Value being not just price but where can I make the most amount of quality jumps in a limited time with the best chance of jumpable weather in that time. Of the 3 bigger (>12') tunnels I believe Eloy offers the best value for money hands down right now.

Hi Bryony Just caught the press release Bodyflight put out today. Apparently: "The current British national skydiving team is, for the first time, an all female team." Did Airkix (an all female team) not win nationals in 2006? Also, "The Bodyflight World Challenge is the only skydiving competition to take place indoors." I'm pretty sure that both Eloy and Paraclete host competitions too. You might want to edit that press release just a little.

Where to jump in Europe this year ?
skreamer replied to RandomLemming's topic in Events & Places to Jump
You could consider http://www.skydivespain.com/index.htm.Based near Seville, inland so less windy than Empuria. Exit altitude is minimum '14 500 from fast twin turbine Dorniers. Also the Outbreak/Volare guys are based there providing quality coaching. Is sister DZ to Hibaldstow in UK (owned by same family), you'll be in great company at either DZ! -
I've got an Optimum 143 in Micron V308 (sized for PD 126), fits nice. Also got to make 5 jumps on Optimum 143 demo canopy, flies great in both high speed and deep braked approaches. Great canopy!

For sure, with your experience and currency you can make that decision. My observations of experienced jumpers' subterminal tracking deployments was not really valid for an inexperienced skydiver who has the option to go to boxman and pull a bit higher so I'd say Lou's advice for this person was more appropriate than mine.
-
Seriously, they are only tracking pants... pull your string *** There are further complications, when flown efficiently you need to use wingsuit style pull. I'm guessing that the OP is still bringing his left arm up when pulling. With an efficent track, even with the (mentioned) dropping of the knees it is rather important that the risers load evenly. I've seen enough off-headings to the left from people not doing wingsuit style pull to appreciate the importance. However doing the wingsuit pull when tracking can pitch you even more head down if you rush into it and aren't compensating with knees down/head up. Maybe if the OP could arrange for an experienced WS flyer to fly dirty and video them doing practice pulls and get that debriefed it might help.

Have you looked into UPT's trulok toggles with pin to prevent brake fires? Their Louie loop dive loop option is easy to find and easy on the hands.

Half the price compared to a skydive, for coaching it is even more of a bargain. An hour coached with Babylon (all briefings included) costs £700 at their Bedford camps. Under £12 per minute with Babylon coaching included - just covering 2 slots will set you back £40 in the UK. Tunnel flying is difficult and it is expensive but I get to fly me up, down and all around; sometimes what I do is more of a pinball action than human flight but man it is a lot of fun!
-
I agree, people who were good students in one discipline such as FS can often master a new discipline quite quickly because they are open to instruction and can listen (and PEDAL!). I don't see why it should be any different if that discipline is tunnel flying and it happens to be a couple years before they are old enough to start skydiving. Selfishly I think it is great because what I care about most after safety is improving my skills. If some kid can come up to me after a tunnel session and say 'Old fella, the reason you can't do outfaced carving is because you aren't keeping your hips bent, you are trying to fly with your arms and your legs aren't strong' - man that would be great! And if I can help that kid with some skydiving tips (not spotting! ) that would be cool too.
-
You made a jump that you didn't feel quite right about, so you repeated it, then you just had to go on the internet to tell everyone what a bad boy you are. As happened to me, I hope somebody at your DZ has experience at slapping down (not quite) 100 jump wonder egos.

Zed is not dead baby. Do you know how to pronounce 'Seppo' correctly?
-
As long as nobody is drawing a distinction between having and being a sick puppy!

I hear they are using their tunnel to do research to fix the hole in the ozone layer. They also leave the tunnel running after everyone has gone home just in case Elvis and Ghandi want to do some flying. Will PS I would've shot the dog and used the raffle money to buy some flight time to cheer myself up about having killed my dog.

Should you not always be initiating the turn at the same altitude, just adjust your setup point accordingly? You either start your turn at '700 or you don't, if there is any reason to wait another 1.5 seconds that should be reason to abort.

Eric (Tonto) Stephenson - Goodbye my friend

Aah crap man, what a loss.To have been in the sport for so long, given so much and still been so enthusiastic. He told me one of the things he liked the most was when he got to learn from someone who had been a student of his. He didn't care about ego just wanted to fly better, he'd learn from anyone and help anyone. Taya, he loved you so much, I am so sorry for your loss. -
Yes, you are right, I want you.... to take a holiday out of Arizona from 22 December to 5 January.
-
Thank you, you silly old fart. Might like to see some qualitative, quantitative proof of the cast iron vs cordura claim though.
-
Hell, if I had objective quantitative data I would not be saying 'I believe' and 'I have concerns', I would make a statement such as "Spacer mesh is less durable than 1000D Cordura". If you could send me a piece of spacer material I'll gladly arrange for an abrasion test comparison (hell, I'll even buy the sandpaper ). Take a look at this pic of Cordura after a 3000 cycle abrasion test : http://www.cordura.com/FAQ.html. I do not believe the mesh/fabric covering spacer foam is as durable. Tell you what, I'm going to drop Gehring an email and ask them for the results of the abrasion testing on D3 spacer covering.
-
Doing research with full-time riggers at Eloy and Empuria Brava in the last year, also many experienced, current skydivers. Also lengthy discussions with a full-time master rigger here in UK who works closely with a manufacturer. I do not believe the mesh on spacer foam is as durable as cordura or parapack. Now maybe you should go educate all those manufacturers about wrongly using the word foam.
-
Then why do all the manufacturers refer to it as foam? As for durability - a regular/deluxe/quilted backpad is covered by cordura (or parapack) which is more durable than the fabric covering the product formerly known as spacer foam.
-
Dave, $875US buys you 1 hour of coached time at Eloy with the likes of Mick Nuttal, Ray Kubiak or Fruitcake. There is no extra charge for high speed if you want to do static head down at Eloy. BA sale is on and you could fly to Phoenix for under £350. I am doing another hour at Bedford with Babylon, but for someone looking to do 5 hours I think that $875US per hour including coaching from Bodypilots is great value. IMHO the surcharge for head down speeds is going to limit the appeal of future freefly camps at Bodyflight. Will
-
I opted against spacer foam on my new rig because I don't like the added bulk. I also have concerns regarding the durability of the material covering the foam (on any manufacturer's rig). Go ask a rigger how they'd feel about replacing any part of the spacer foam cover. At 11 jumps I'd strongly recommend you buy second hand and spend all the saved money on staying as current as possible and getting good freefall and canopy instruction.
